You have to put some conditions on it.

Are we talking State champ vs. State Champ?

Top 5 in A versus Top 5 in 2A?

Top 10? Top 20?

Every team in both classes?

10 best teams in either class in the last 10-15 years?

I think it could pertain to state champs as well as overall top 10-15 programs! It will be almost pure conjecture for the most part. Just wanted to know the overall sense of many of the knowledgeable BGPers on here. :thumb:

If you're including the top 10-15 teams over the past decade, you have to go with AA. After you get past the Beechwood, NCC, Danville, Mayfield quartet, there is typically a serious drop-off the rest of the way down the list. While the top teams in AA may not be as good as the very top A teams year in and year out (although I believe they'd hold their own), the overall quality is better...at least IMHO.

I agree for the most part.

Top 5 in the last 10 years maybe a slight edge to A

# 5-10 maybe even or a slight edge to AA

#10-#15 edge to AA.

That being said, wouldn't logic suggest that it would be easier to win a title in AA. :thumb:

No, actually I believe having a greater number of quality teams year in and year out makes it TOUGHER. The reason being it takes more to get through 5 rounds of playoffs when you are playing in AA as opposed to A. I believe there are more blowouts in the early rounds in A than AA. And by early rounds, I mean games up to and including the 3rd round (regional championship).

The switching of classes by Danville and Mayfield heavily impact this question. Both were in AA a good part of the last 15 years leaving only Beechwood as a dominate force for much of the period in question.

Good points.

I would say A is harder to win especially since Boyle Co. moved up.

In AA everyone is closer to being equal with each other than in A. In A you usually have to beat at least 2 solid teams at the end to win and I don't think that is always the case in AA. So in a way in AA you have a better chance of getting knocked out earlier, but in A you have a better chance of getting knocked out later.

That was what I was saying when I replied to goherd's post! :thumb:

Remember that prior to 5 years ago, AA had a couple teams that were much better than the rest. So without breaking the decade-15 yrs. in half, I believe AA would be the stronger class over the last decade-15 years. And the last 5 yrs., AA has given us some very exciting football as well, even though some of the earlier playoff games were more competitive.

Add teams like Boyle Co., Bourbon Co., Lexington Catholic, Danville, Mayfield, and wasn't Bardstown's title in 2A? Either way, that group of teams in 2A I think make it tougher in a 15 year span. The '99 and '00 Boyle and Lex Cath teams were both pretty good.

Agreed, and if certain teams hadn't elected to move down in class size 1A would be very out numbered

No question about it....
