  1. OK, that sounds like the way most jackets are done, that is, at least that I know about. But do you have a recording of the "town crier" shouting the results. That could be transferred to a digital recording(mp3 even!) today and would last forever! Of course, the sound wouldn't be any better than what was recorded, and those rock recordings have quite a few snap, crackle & pops in them, but you'd have a back-up just in case that rock would happen to get dropped and cracks!
  2. So what you're saying is "Size Matters?" Trophy awards are nice...at the time they're given out. After that they're just dust collectors. The memory of what was accomplished and with whom you accomplished it is really all that matters. Our letter jackets were a joke, the trophy looked like every other trophy, we got a little bitty trinket football from the KHSAA, press clippings yellow and decay. But the MEMORIES of the event are PRICELESS!! Sure, who wouldn't want the biggest trophy behind the glass case?! But, like you say, they only collect dust, and the memories of accomplishment are not soon forgotten. We(along with the booster's club) have to get our own letter jackets, so are you saying that your letter jackets were a gift? And I haven't been around in a while, so I don't know what the KHSAA sends and/or hands out, although our state runnerup trophy in '01 was a very nice one. And if our kids got some of those footballs, they probably won't get them until the football banquet. And if you'll have those press clippings laminated, they'll survive much better than those that just lay around.
  3. Not at all, leatherneck, as they enjoyed successful seasons here, just as my youngest(his last season, and if I happen to hear any such comment from him, or any teammates sometime in the future, it WILL be hard to avoid drawing such conclusions) has this year(although the loss of our QB late in the season may have contributed to our 3rd round loss at DeSales(@ Manual). Coach Derossett has always been positive in his approach, equally to wins and losses, and has always kept his players working hard both during the season and the off-season, especially since we rarely enjoy sufficient numbers to enable players to only play on one side of the ball, so they have to be in good shape!(And this is as close as I can get to answering your question, as well as your comments regarding conditioning) These were comments that were post-playing and after graduation, and I didn't realize there were any issues at the time, and friendships still exist with players from teams we came out on top with, as well as players on teams we lost to. So it's entirely possible that I've taken these comments totally out of context, and just not understood(football players are a closed-mouth bunch, for the most part!). But I just happened to pick up on the posting regarding the player for Danville who lived in, and whose father still works in Lincoln Co., and thought maybe there is something to it. And if they are short-handed and more involvement from the KBE may remedy that, if that's the determination, I would hope that everyone wants what's best for our kids, even if those with the KHSAA or the KBE don't have any that are, or have been, involved in any of the high school sports programs.
  4. It is, indeed, refreshing, leatherneck, to think that the KBE may be getting more involved with athletics. After all, we know a significant percentage of the student population in our high schools have no desire to pursue any further education, while other students are preparing for the next level in their education. So, whatever route these kids choose to pursue once their high school days are behind them, the KBE should ensure that they do as much as they can to assist these students in understanding that their choices will determine what is expected of them once they complete that last step in their primary education. It's easy for some to forget that the kids are most important, and some would be looking for work if they aren't afforded the opportunity to make sure they remain most important! And while athletics, in no small degree, contribute to that group of student's work ethics due to their protracted time spent in addition to their educational responsibilities(while many other students enjoy early evenings, days/weeks off normally on the school calenders, as well as those, oft-times hot, summer days in between years), you would think the student/athlete would have an obvious advantage over the non-student/athletes in self descipline acquired and essential for success whether pursuing a college education or deciding instead to join the work force. However, a number of these student-athletes leave high school with deficient self-esteems due, in large part, to the KHSAA's perceived practice, whether justified or not, of selective enforcement of their rules pertaining to one, or more, of their school's sports programs, aware of other schools being seemingly immune from the KHSAA's intervention even though they see either no apparent difference in other schools methods or, worse, when they say they know of other schools that have broken the rules. So, hopefully, we'll see our kids benefit from an improved even-handed image of the KHSAA after the KBE gets more involved and maybe a way to make sure that whoever it is the KBE chooses, they'll have sufficient resources to avoid any appearance of impropriety. And I agree with you and Sweep about the championship weekend! A good post, Family 4 Ever, although you must remember there have been 4 championship trophies for football in the past since there were 4 classes. And those trophies may get even smaller this year since we'll have 6 classes of high school football champions this year! And there's still only one state champion for basketball. :thumb:
  5. My partner and I generate a fair amount, not only from coal, but from crude oil and natural gas as well, so it wouldn't necessarily have to be a lump of coal. A multi-colored flame of energy would look at least as good as some of the logo's I've seen on the plates, although not with quite the effect you desire, birdman. And, of course, we'll keep "mountain" ball alive whether we get that plate or not. :thumb:
  6. I believe their relationship with the KBE is only an arrangement, as I understand it, whereby they run school-boy athletics as they see fit, while obligated to abide by Board regulations as it relates to academics. They seemingly operate as their members dictate, while consequences, apparently, are shielded by the Board for the most part, except when enforcement of their rules ventures onto inconsistent ground, when it seems they must stand by themsleves. That's the way I've managed to put that puzzle together over the years, so please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  7. I agree. It's been way too long without winning on a routine basis. :thumb:
  8. Some people just have all the luck...... And some take what they get, right or wrong, and have to like it. What a joke. And those can then lay down and sleep like a baby.... :bunny:
  9. Chicago does have their fair share of the wealth!
  10. I still like the horse plate(with the steeples), even though the energy that comes from these mountains generates more money for the state than any other industry, and deserve at least a mention on a plate, and more than some I've seen. But we'll just have to continue playing our "mountain" ball, as some like to call it! :thumb:
  11. gish, since you were there, and Moose chose the "Turkey Bowl", and then getting his work done after that instead of before, and not making the trip, while my surgery on Tuesday along with this danged back, unfortunately(although I seriously contemplated going anyway, which would probably have led to my ripping a few stitches out during that 4th qtr.!), relegated me to the radio(anybody able to get the webcast from Q95?) and updates on here, I know you can provide an objective(as hard as it is, but you're one of a few who's able to do that) perspective, and hope you don't mind me putting you on the hot seat! But I understand DeSales had many more players than we did. Were they used? Were they able to limit some(or most?) of their players to only one side of the ball and, if so, did that contribute to the Cats lack of effectiveness(since our players have always had to play both ways) down the stretch which, ultimately, led to the uncharacteristic mistakes? And were you encouraged, or discouraged, by the performance of Burchett at QB, given the amount of time he's been at that position since the injury to Hughes a few weeks ago, as well as the underclassmen who return next year, since we'll see much the same scenario once again?
  12. Congrats Colts. Good luck next week. :thumb:
  13. No, I think their teams are already out of the playoffs, and they just love watching those Pirates play!
  14. HA, I didn't know it was there! :creepy:
  15. Thanks onei.. :thumb: I thought he had
  16. So it sounds like there's no need to even play this game, and no need to even make the trip, although there are some anxious fans who are excited to be leaving work and/or school(for those students planning on making the trip from the varied colleges. and who didn't go home for Thanksgiving) early, and won't be happy. And the players will be disappointed with your prediction as well, although they could be getting another day of hunting these mountains in, and let's not forget the turkey, etc.(especially the pies!) leftover from Thanksgiving dinner they won't have to give up! But with such a wide margin, what do you base your prediction on?
  17. Does this include Coach Haywood's tenure here as well as Coach Letton's?
  18. It has been tweaked a bit since the injury to Hughes, EKU.
