Findley Prep won first game big. Clarence Trent was a beast. I hope Liggins and BCG can convince him to come to UK as well.

Rose Hill made a nice 9-0 run at the end of the 3rd qtr. to cut the LCA lead to 45-39....start of 4th qtr.

Over the past six seasons, he is 77-76, has no district championships, and hasn't won a game in the regional tournament, all while coaching at the largest school in the region.....sorry, I just don't see it.

A necessity....won't order nachos without the jalapenos. :fire:

I agree....Bath Co. and Elliott Co. in the finals, but Elliott has already beat Bath 99-55. :eek: Nobody in the 16th is beating Elliott Co., regardless of what class they are in.

As for the rankings..... 1. Montgomery Co. should be the clear cut favorite 2. Clark Co. the solid second choice Other contenders: Bracken Co., Brossart, Nicholas Co., Harrison Co., & Bourbon Co. in no particular order. I must admitt that I really don't know anything about Pendleton Co.

I wouldn't expect the coaching change to have much of an impact at Harrison Co. They hired Christine Garnett to take over. She is a former player and has been an assistant there for the last few years. She will do fine. I've also heard that Gary Philpott, former assistant at Harrison and GRC, is coming out of retirement and is going to be helping out at Harrison this year. Can anyone confirm this? If so, he will be a great assest to a young, first year head coach.

According to the channel 27 news, Gabrielle Brooks from Paris and Loraine Dennie from Harrison Co. They were going after a rebound following a missed free throw.

.....regardless, by eliminating the #1 vs. #4 games, the playoffs would be much more competitve and entertaining.

I think that would vary from team to team. The coach of a team on a roll and playing well (as most #1 seeds probably would be) would want to continue to play. However, the coach of a team that may have some injuries (as all teams do at this time of year) might welcome a bye week.

Why couldn't they reduce the number of teams in the playoffs to the top three teams in each district? The #1 seed could get a bye in the first round and play the winner of the #2 vs. #3 matchup. This would make the regular season games much more meaningful as a bye week would be huge allowing the #1 seed a week to rest and get healthy. Is there a reason I'm overlooking why this wouldn't work? I haven't heard anyone sugguest such a plan.

Great game with big playoff implications. Montgomery led 6-0 at the half. Tied at 22 at the end of regulation. MC scored first in OT and converted 2 pt. conversion. Ashland scored but failed on 2 pt. try.

Montgomery has won 5 straight regular season road games going back to last season. I'll take the Tribe 28-21.

I totally agree. The umpiring was horrible, to say the least. The call to end the game was a complete joke. I thought the call in the first inning may have even been worse. Bustos grounded to third with runners at first and second for what would have been an easy double play. The third base umpire ruled that the ball was fouled off her shin. Replays showed that the ball was nowhere near her. They also called a Japanese player out for leaving the bag early. I thought it was questionable as well. Like you said, USA didn't need these calls and it's unfortunate that we're talking about them instead of the victory. When the umpires get more airtime than Jenny Finch.....that's a problem!!! :irked:

It is only classified for the purpose of selecting All-State teams. The basic reason was simply to be able to recognize more players as All-State. It has been this way for 3-4 years.

As for the lack of NKY players, I'd say the biggest reason is lack of representation.

Here's the problem: In order to be selected to be on the All-Star squad that competes against Tennessee, you have to be selected, and participate, in the East/West All-Star games that were held this past weekend. The East/West games basically serve as a tryout for the KY/TN games. Many of the top players participate in travel ball through the summer and elect not to play in the All-Star games due to travel ball conflicts. Of the 35 or so seniors that participated in the East/West games, only 21 of them were either intersted or available to play in the KY/TN games. Most of the ones that were not available were because of travel ball conflicts. For the second straight year, the current Miss Softball played in the East/West games, but was not available to participate in the KY/TN games due to travel ball conflicts. The Allen girl from Ryle did not participate in the East/West games because of travel ball, and if she don't participate next year, she will not be on the All-Star team that competes against Tennessee in 2008. Last year, KY hosted the KY/TN game and elected to have the games on a Wednesday in order to avoid travel ball conflicts. However, TN is hosting this year and they want to have the games on a Saturday, thus creating conflicts for those playing travel ball that weekend, and thus meaning that KY will not be fielding a team with the top talent in the state. :irked:

Coaches nominate juniors and seniors from their own teams. The All-Star teams are selected from this list of nominations by two committees of coaches from across the state, along with the director of KY Prep Softball. A committee of coaches from regions 1-8 select players for the West teams, and a committee of coaches from regions 9-16 select players for the East teams. At least one coach from each region is invited to be on the selection committee. Some regions have better representation than others, and some regions don't have any representation at all. That is why you see several players from certain regions, and very few from other regions.
