Willie Blair played at Johnson Central. 12 years in the bigs with various teams. Great high school player. Alex Ward isn't a bad choice. Outstanding career at Pikeville College and was inducted into the Pikeville College Hall of Fame this year.

From the 15th region it will come down between Pikeville and Paintsville. Sheldon Clark in the last few years has lost a lot and hasn't been able to replace those quality of players. Paintsville is probably the best bet in the 15th with Tucker Howard running the program. Pikeville is playing better this week with wins over Betsy Layne, Morgan and Leslie. They are young and talented, but pitching maybe the problem for the Panthers. This program has a lot of experience though at Applebee's during the All A Classic. Betsy Layne and Phelps seemed to be non players when it comes to a tournament. Both teams normally have 1 quality pitcher, but you need more than 1 to win a tournament. Just my thoughts.

Is Pike Central that good or is Pikeville that down?

How are they going to be this year? Who are there best players and how many returning starters? I know they only won like 9 games last year so is there going to be any improvement? Thanks

In this situation for a high school game you fire the head coach. Since all you have to do is tell the umpire you want to intentionally walk him and he takes the base. Good topic though. I love rules situations.

Whitesville Trinity (near Owensboro) I think there is a St. Mary's out west but not sure. You would think there are more than this.

Wow - that's all I can say. Why doesn't Highlands get more exposure nationally (unless it does and I am just not paying attention since my school doesn't compete against them or even in same class)? You hear about St. X, Trinity and Male nationally (deservedly so) but why not Highlands?

Seriously what are they doing which takes that long? At our school if it lasts over an hour people start getting antsy and want to leave. How do you keep their attention for that long?

Am I reading this correctly that a banquet is lasting at least 8 hours??? What in the world are they doing which takes 8 hours?

How will Pikeville be? How has Priode done replacing Lawson as head coach? What does the future hold?

Yeah Logan wouldn't be more of a challenge than you guys already have. Really the overall problem is that Southern WV is losing so much population the teams are losing their strength. They still stay competitive with each other but to compare them to teams like Belfry they are falling way behind. Matewan had some teams in the early 90's which would have gave Belfry some great games. Williamson in the 80's. Gilbert in the late 80's to mid 90's. Those were some good teams but they are pale imitations now.

You won't find the WV teams playing you guys because a loss to Belfry would really hurt their playoff chances in WV. Granted if someone beat you guys it would really make them jump in the standings but the drop in standings with a loss it too great. If WV went to a system like KY and have districts and the non - district games didn't hurt a WV school you would be able to pick up more WV teams. I know a couple of years ago Matewan WV would have played Belfry because it would have been a good matchup back then. Belfry probably would have won but been a good game. Since the loss would have killed Matewan they stick with teams like Phelps.

Thanks Ipapi - the newer building really did not fit into the overall setting of the old Belfry campus. You could tell it was designed during the psychadelic period. I haven't been in the gym in over 10 years. I didn't realize it had got in that bad of shape. It was always dark in there I thought.

Why did they get rid of the newer building at the old Belfry High School - now the middle school? I thought that was where the library was? Belfry was really overdue for a new complex. I agree that Vipperman was a place with a ton of character but when you consider what Belfry football, baseball and softball players had to do just to practice is crazy. Get on a bus EVERY day and go to Hardy Park. Speaking of Hardy Park it had it's own character and nuances but in all honesty never should have been a high school baseball field. Right field was only 200' from homeplate is crazy. Belfry definately has something to be proud of and deserve. Good Luck Friday.

If Central beats PT tonight then we are going to see a match up of two totally different types of offenses. Central runs a wide open offense compared to Belfry's two TE and wishbone formations (I know this is what they traditionally run and what I saw on TV against Somerset). I hope Belfry wins but I will say they will probably will see the best athletes all season next week if it is Central. Their waterboys run 4.3 40's. But they can be beat because they do not have discipline like Belfry does. They will make silly mistakes that I think Belfry will be able to capitalize on. But man Central has some athletes.

Out west we already do a lot of pool play with 4 teams. That gets you 3 games and then a 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 matchup to get another game out of a tournament for a total of 4 games. That is not bad and was very beneficial under the old system where those 4 games got counted as 2. Now you have to count all 4. Since most of these happen on a Friday and Saturday you will lose a few games during the week which might not be such a bad thing. It will keep the kids home to be able to study more.

who now has the longest losing streak in the state now that North has won? I would think that Breckinridge County would have been second but they also got a win this year by forfeit.

Yes because he only sits out at the level he is ejected from. At least that is the way it is for coaches so I am assuming that is the same for players.

I'm not trying to cause problems here or anything but are you sure it isn't St. X out of Ohio that is ranked so high? If it is the one from Louisville then I apologize but I just looked and I saw St. X out of Cincy.
