Beechwood always has alot of srs, no different than any other year. The difference is, some sr classes are more talented than others and I'd have a hard time believing this yrs Jrs are better than this yrs srs, especially in the trenches, plus they lose 2 or 3 very talented skill players. No doubt, they'll be right in the hunt, but, I believe, as many others do, they'll come back to the pack a little next year.

I dont dispute the 3 teams you list from the east but Hazard actually split with LCA, went undefeated in regular season and to the semis.. They were clearly better than Raceland this year and have more coming back.. Yes, LCA beat them in the semis, but, through the season, had some less than stellar performances and just seemed to peak at the right time and they lose more than Hazard does...I think Hazard should be the favorite to come out of the east this year...LCA , a close 2nd and Raceland and Pikeville, a distant 3rd/4th ...

I don't think Trinity was as good early as they were late and thats the main thing. Trinity and St X always seems to get better as the season wears on and they get there rotations set. BGreen also had a game under there belt with Boyle Co and it was Trinitys opener. If anything, BGreen was about as consistent as could be thruout the year.. I think the style Trinity uses, plays more in the hands of BG then the style Highlands plays. BG didnt play that poorly against Highlands. Highlands played a flawless 1st half and managed to control the ball on long sustained drives and made some big 3rd and 4th down conversions and that last second TD before the half allowing them to go up 21-0 vs 14-0 was huge, because BG was getting the ball to start the 2nd half and a good drive to open could have turned that game.. BG only had the ball about 3-4 minutes of the half.. Trinity's pretty pass happy and it allowed BGs offense more time on the field to get in synch. BG probably did play a little better game against Trinity than they did against Highlands, but, I still think Trinity would have handled Highlands, had they played. Just too many offensive weapons, depth and overall talent...

If Hazard is returning that much from this year, they'll be a top 2-3 team in state...LCA did play Beechwood close in the championship game, but, imo, they played as well as they possibly could play and I don't think Beechwood played there best game...As far as Raceland playing LCA close in the playoffs, they did, but they also lost by a ton in the regular season and I'd say the difference in the 2 is somewhere in the middle. Frankfort has a good # of skill players in the lower classes coming back, but, I think this year was the year they expected to contend for a title and may be a little down compared to this year. Mayfield loses more on the defensive end, which is a little easier to replace and return the majority of there skill players. I expect them to be a little stronger next year than this year.. Here's how I see it playing out in '08: 1) Hazard 2) Beechwood 3) Mayfield 4) LCA 5) Frankfort 6) Raceland/Pikeville

Mayfield will have there main skill people back and several good lineman.. I think Guhy will step right in at the QB spot and not miss a beat and Travarthen was injured a big part of the year and the others who stepped in, were actually a notch or 2 better anyway, so, he's definately replaceable. I think they'll have a hard time replacing the LBs they lose and they'll have to find some receivers to replace Shelton and Mccuistian...Overall, they should again be competitive, but, like this year, they'll still be young...I think the Cards could really be strong in 2 years and 3 years but maybe not quite so good next year, probably alot like this years team...

Westview has 7 district games which only leaves them with 3 nondistrict and Union City is one of those and a rivalry game. This year they also played Henry Co, Tn and Camden, both very tough foes, so, I can see there reasoning. Union City has 6 district games and Westview and Obion Central, both rivalry games, so, that only leaves them with 2 possibilities so I can see there reasoning, as well. The district with Huntington and Camden only have 5 teams in that district, so, they may be a better fit for something like this and both are very solid programs. Would love to see Mayfield have a chance to matchup with either of these teams.

Yes, but you HAVE to schedule district opponents whereas you CHOOSE to play non district opponents. I guess what I'm looking for is who scheduled the toughest by choice. Thats where I have to say Central is right up there. I would give Highlands some props too as they had Trottwood, Lex Cath, Central, Ryle & Madison Central, which is pretty tough too. It seems like I'm missing somebody on them, though...

Haven't thought of that but it sounds like a better idea to me...2 on Thurs, 2 on fri and 2 on sat... You would think the KHSAA and the city would like it as well being as alot of folks would stay 3 nights vs 1 or 2 with the current alignment. It's all about revenue and you would think that that certainly would increase it...:ylsuper:

Regardless of class, I'd have to say Central played the toughest regular season schedule of anyone I can think of. St X, Manual, Male, JCentral, Highlands, Bullitt East, all nondistrict foes. Thats at least 3 teams who are Top 5 in state and then 2 more in the top 15-20 and a Top 5 4a team most of the year. Can anyone else lay claim to anything tougher? I think to accurately gauge a schedule, you have to disregard district opponents and playoff games, as you have to play your district and you have no control over who you play in the playoffs, so, for argument sake, lets keep it to non district regular season... What say you?

Make it a preseason bowl. None of the Tn or Ky teams open up with a district game anyway and most of the so called rivalry games don't happen in the 1st week either.. I know the 2a district has like 7-8 teams as does the 1a, but, in most of the 3a,4a,5a divisions, theres only 5-6 teams, just like Ky, so, i'm not too sure it's that unrealistic...

That would be a classic, for sure...I believe Maryville would handle them, though...South Panola is very good but they don't play the level of competition some of the other premier programs do...

Evansville Rietz is a powerhouse in there own right. I would love to see them schedule a Highlands, Trinity or X. I have heard that Maryville, Tn, riding a 60 something game winning streak, is also looking for a game in 08. Not too many in Tn want any part of them, so, it may be a tough game for them to add. Would be great to see MBA or Brentwood take them on, but, I don't think they want any part of Maryville right now..

I'd love to see a W.Ky/W.Tn bowl game every year with 4 games. You could play 1 year at Murray St and the next year at UT Martin. Here's a lineup I'd love to see: McKenzie, Tn(1a state runnerup) Vs Mayfield Milan, Tn(traditional 2a power) Vs Ft Campbell Dyersburg, Tn(#1 3a team most of year) Vs Pad Tilghman Henry Co., Tn(Final 4 4a team) Vs Marshall Co. Other solid W.Tn programs: Trinity Christian Academy - 1a would be a good matchup for Fulton City Huntington/Trenton Peabody/Camden/Martin Westview - 2a would be a good matchup for Trigg Co or Owensboro Catholic or Caldwell Co. Jackson Southside/Haywood Co - 3a would be a good matchup for Lone Oak or Calloway Co. Jackson Central Merry - 4a would be a good matchup for Graves Co or Hopkinsville.

For starters, Tennessee football is considerably stronger overall than Ky, Ill football is weak and shouldn't sniff the Top 20. NCarolina and SCarolina are also very strong at the HS level and have many more athletes than Ky and more quality teams. I agree with Florida, Texas, Ohio being the Top 3...

How does Farris compare to S.Alexander from about 10-12 years ago? Is he that type of talent or what type back would you campare him to...Anyone???

There are alot of solid teams in 2a in WKy when you look at Ft Campbell, OBoro Catholic, Metcalfe Co, Trigg Co and Caldwell Co. In addition, Murray & Heath are capable teams. In this class anyway, I think it matches up very well with any other area. Besides Mayfield and Fulton Co, 1a is very weak in WKy, especially when Mayfield was so young this year. 3a, I have to agree. It's Tilghman and noone else. Well, Russellville is decent, but, those are the only 2. But, to be honest, 3a is pretty weak everywhere, not just in WKy. 4a is weak, example: Lone Oak dominating and see what happened at state. Calloway and Hopkins Central are decent and WEast was solid, but, weak class overall in WKy. I think 5a is fairly strong. Hopkinsville wasn't a typical Hoptown this year, nor was WCentral but in normal years they would be competing toe to toe with BGreen and Owensboro and Christian Co is always talented and dangerous. 6a doesnt have a team who can compete with the Louisville area teams but who can. They do have alot of balance with Marshall, Henderson, Graves, Apollo, Daviess Co and Madisonville, but, none of these are going to compete with the big dogs in that class.

I wonder if Paul Leahy may come out of retirement...What about Brad Lawson? Would either of these be considered?

If i'm not mistaken, when he 1st got to PT, he had to get rid of alot of bad apples and there #s were way down the 1st couple of years, but, ever since then, he's gotten them back and has earned some respect the program was sorely missing. Hes a pretty strong disciplinarian and expects 110% effort or you won't play, simple as that..

Guess thats the reason Highlands played up to 5a, huh...

In Western ky alone, McLean Co and Russellville played up, Somerset played up, as well. There's probably more i'm not aware of. So, no, its not just CC and Highlands I speak of...

I don't see what you're talking about at all. If anything, the larger enrollment and more depth and talent would sway my vote the other way. Personally, I think Highlands could compete with Trinity THIS year and regardless of the outcome at state, I think St X was Kys overall best team. I don't blame Highlands for playing up. Look at the 3a and 4a teams in NKy. Wouldn't you rather play Dixie & Cov Cath than the teams in these categories? The Highlands faithful would hate to see that as well, I'm sure. By the way, there are several teams in Ky playing up in class. It's not that uncommon and is based on demographics and availability. The KHSAA doesn't automatically allow every team who request to move up do so.
