Moss would have to be the best overall..Unbeleivable ability to stop on a dime and then explode through a hole, plus he had excellent balance and strength..His runningmate for a couple of years was right up there too, John Redd..He went on to Missouri and had a solid college career...There's been several others I'd place ahead of Bright... Danny Fisher , mid 70s - went to Ole Miss Danny Kirby , early 90s William Murrell , early 90s - E.Ky Robert Mayfield , early 70s Jamie Parrott , early 00s - Murray St The Parrott in the late 70's, early 80's was Charles "Pinky" Parrott.. He was a great player but best on the defensive side of the ball and played fullback because of Redd and Moss being there at the same time.

Good post, but, another factor involved with T and X is geographics. It's in the largest metropolitan area in Ky and has no geographic restrictions, which are placed on most other schools. Let's take Owensboro for example. If they took the very best players from Daviess, Apollo, Senior and Catholic and put them all on 1 team, they would still be dealing with a geographic disadvantage of about 7 to 1 compared to the Louisville area. And then, which one would get all these premier athletes. I'm sure there would be alot of rumblings from the other schools if they weren't the one these kids attended and would somehow find a way to veto it. Thats the problem with public schools vs private schools. Secondly, having 25 solid players in the top 2 classes can make a team competitive, but, when you can go 3 deep at every position on both sides of the ball without much falloff, it's a big difference. These teams with 45-50 kids still get hurt alot more when 3-4 kids go down with injuries than one with 120. It's just a fact. Add that to the 7-1 geographic advantage, as well as the non restriction of where they live, it is alot bigger than most on here want to admit..

So does the community, kids and coaches not buy into basketball?

If it's all about commitment and community support and things like that, then why is it T and X doesn't dominate in basketball, too? Do they not support that, as well? It sounds like the commitment, support, facilities and such are limited to football only at those 2 schools.

There is a huge #s discrepancy with St X and T vs the majority of other 6a programs.. In comparison, look at Highlands...They have roughly 400 boys in there top 4 grades and then look at Pulaski Co, who is in 5a. They have roughly 500 boys in the top 4 grades. Not much difference at all and Highlands would in reality, fall into the 3a class.. Only 100 kids variance, 25 per class and they are 2 classes apart. In most cases T and X have signifigantly larger advantages..

So, you're saying if the X and T coaching staffs were at lets say Southern or Seneca, then they would automatically compete with them?

I just wonder why all the speculation of a conspiracy..If his dad got a better job opportunity in another area and they move to that area, then it only makes sense there son would relocate as well and that would mean a new school. I'm sure the BB and FB teams at Danville will suffer some with the loss of a kid with that much talent, but, it sounds to me like it is what it is, nothing more.

Final on ESPN...Aminu is a very solid player for Norcross..I was very disappointed in Greg Monroe..If he's the #1 HS player in the class of 08, then the 08 class isn't very strong.. I would have expected more..

I hope you're right. I'm not sure what Trigg and Caldwell have coming back. I do think Green Co loses alot and up until this past year, haven't been on the same plane as the typical 7 or 8. Metcalfe loses there QB and that's big. I'd like to see them do good, as well.

Same Ole usual suspects, sounds like to me...It would be easier just to name the standard 7-8 programs and say take your pick... Corbin, NCC, Danville, Bardstown, Ft Campbell, OB Catholic, Pres'burg & MBoro..that ought to just about do it...

Personally, I don't think Lex Catholic would have beaten them this year or last year and I don't believe Highlands would have beaten them 2 yrs ago, and I don't believe CC would have beaten them this year or 2 years ago, but, thats all speculation cause we'll never really know. We can all make empty claims but it plays out like it does and anything other than that is just a guess. I believe in 05 they were the 2nd best team, 3rd best team last year and 2nd best this year, but like I said, who knows. The only thing for sure is they have 3 runnerup trophies in there case..

Very well said...That ole West Ky Conference in the 60 & 70s really was a war each week. Murray, Mayfield, Madisonville and a few others also had some very, very good teams back then.

If Guhy comes through at the QB slot for Mayfield, I think they'll be hard to beat. I know he has an accurate arm, but, he'll need to get a little bigger and stronger and be able to keep the defenses honest to open up there running game with Murrell & the 2 Noonans. They should have solid receivers in Shelton and Richardson and there line should be improved. I think there defense will be fine. Look for Fulton City to still be right in the thick of things, as I'm hearing they're possibly getting some kids from S.Fulton, as there program is in dissarray right now. As OORocket said, you never know with Crittenden. I expected more from them this past year and they did improve, but, they were horrible in the 1st half of the year. I know they were young though and those kids will get stronger and I think they'll be much improved. I agree, Ballard and Fulton Co will most likely be the cellar dwellers next yr...

District 1 should be pretty strong next year, as I think Fulton City will be solid again. They lose a couple of very talented backs but they have the core of there line returning and quite a bit on the defensive side. They always seem to have 2-3 very good athletes coming through. I'm sure they'll have a few coming up through the lower classes again. Ballard Memorial was also very young this year and should be improved in 08. Mayfield will once again be solid and Crittenden should be good. Fulton Co will likely bring up the rear in 08 as there #s have been really down and there program is barely staying afloat.

You want to mention Boone Co...What have they been to, like 1 championship in the past 20 years. Thanks Shawn. They were decent this year but lost a home game to an Owensboro team that was blown out by BGreen and Meade Co. Ryle, same thing and that was simply because of the draw that year. Dixie didn't win even when they weren't in with Highlands and CC..All 3 are good programs, but, nothing to write home about. I contend Dixie wouldn't win a championship even if Highlands and CC were in there appropriate class. They couldn't compete with BGreen, Owensboro, JHardin or even Lincoln Co, imo. They would, most likely be a top 10 team but thats about it. We'll have to agree to disagree about Ballard, Eastern and PRP. I think all 3 are as good or better than the 3 you mentioned.

Louisville does have more better programs that you didnt mention. What about PRP, Ballard, Eastern, Fairdale, Fern Creek, Desales, Holy Cross. Each of these have had as much or more success than any of the NKy teams you added.. Dunbar and Lafayette have also had some very solid years. I still contend there is 2 elite teams in Highlands and Beechwood with 2 more very good teams in NCC and CC. Boone and Dixie are good programs, but, they're the kind of programs that you find in all parts of the state. I think my point can be made for Highlands and CC, as they're the only NKy teams that ever play the elite GCL teams, like Colerain, St X and Elder. That tells me, those 2 schools are being influenced, not the entire area. I know other NKy teams have played some Ohio teams, just usually not the better ones...

I've been looking at some of Robinsons highlight film and to be honest, I think he's a step or 2 slow to play at the d-1 level and at 6'1 185 is a bit small.. I do think he can excell at the DII level, such as a Murray St, UT Martin, etc because of his accuracy and smarts... He may win Mr Football, but, IMO, there are several worthy candidates that have more upside and of the D1 caliber...

To me, in the west, Trigg Co is an underrated program. They've had some outstanding teams the past 5-6 years, but, had to get thru Owens Cath when they had some really good teams and Ft Campbell, when they had some really good teams. Caldwell Co had a team or 2 in there as well that was solid. Mayfield is another program that has 7 championships, but, had the unfortunate task of having to face off with Danville in the late 80s and early 90s, when they had excellent teams. The Cardinals could easily have 10-11 rings otherwise. Marshall Co is another program from the west that has really taken great strides in the past 5 or so years. They have had some very quality teams but have had the dubious task of having to compete with a St X or Male in the 3rd round so alot of folks don't know alot about them, but, I'd consider them underrated.

One Hard schedule? Russell was the only above average team they played, and even they were down in comparison to the last couple of years. Ashland, albeit, a bigger school, was very, very down this year and W and E Carter were under .500 between them. Neither were terrible, but, hardly what I would call above average. And Raceland lost to both. Hazard played Letcher Central, which I would say is about even with Russell, in addition to Lynn Camp, Cumberland, Clay Co, all of whom I'd say were stronger than E or W Carter & played LCA in a nondistrict game. To me, Hazards was a little tougher overall and they went through it unscathed. I think 2-3 TDs is about right..

Whatever..You have the right to your opinion. I do agree being in a metropolitan area, does help due to #s alone, but, I disagree about NKy being better than other areas. I still contend its a few programs and thats it, nothing more, nothing less. If the Ky teams feed off the GCL area as you claim, why aren't all the programs feeding off it, not just an elite few? I don't see the Simon Kentons, Scott, Holmes, Newports, etc. being anything but mediocre and they would be mediocre if they were in EKy, WKy, CKy, SEKy or anywhere else.

These stats very misleading due to fact that alot of these teams have many more district, regional and state championships, just in other classifications..

Take Highlands and Beechwood out of NKy and there not that strong either. Male, Ballard, Central, Manual, PRP, Eastern can all play with any NKy team. Yes, it is alot about population, but, the 2 NKy counties you speak of have as many or more teams than most other counties, excluding Jefferson. Wouldnt you agree. Most counties have 2 teams, the city and the county team, some may have 3 that even field a football team, so, doesn't #s play into that, as well, or is that just limited to Louisville...
