  1. If the majority of the teams starters are back and weren't talented, then why, just because they're srs are they supposed to be now...I know players improve and get a little stronger, but, non talented jrs don't automatically make talented srs, just because there a yr older, and if they're as talented as you say, they would have won more than 2 games last year. I, for one, don't put much stock in what kids do in 8th and 9th grade, because alot kids will play at the earlier stages and then for various reasons, decide not to play once they reach HS...
  2. I bet if Male were to win by alot and Highlands don't move the ball to well, alot of people will downgrade the importance of the scrimmage and say Mueller was playing alot of kids and experimenting...Funny how it's only important and meaningful when you win them.
  3. You're right...I just remember when Mayfield beat them in 98, they went on to win out and win state that year and Mayfield went undefeated till the championship loss to Middlesboro and then Milan went undefeated the next year and won another state championship and one of them was a 2a championship and the other a 3a, but, I don't recall if they moved up or down in 99...
  4. There's a connection between the 2 programs...Joe Morris, Mayfields Head coach and Jeff Morris, Milans head coach, are cousins, so it's a friendly little "Braggin Rights" rivalry, but, both teams always want to see the other do well...They played each other in the regular season a couple of years in 97 and 98,..Milan won the 2a and 3a state in those 2 years, but Mayfield won both the regular season games those 2 years...
  5. Milan won last years 2 to 0 in the varsity and 2 to 1 in the Jv, the year before Mayfield won the varsity, but, I can't remember the score...Milan is going to be a preseason Top 2 or 3 team in Tn 2a, most likely right behind Alcoa...They've got most of there returning starters back from a 11-2 team and about 19 srs this year. Plus, they're a traditional power in W.Tn...
  6. From an outsiders perspective, it seems the difference in the 2 is Highlands seems to always be in the hunt for a championship while CC fields great teams every 3-4 years and average to good teams the other years. With exception to the recent championship team that CC fielded, I'd say they weren't one of the Top 2-3 teams in there class too often and since the 6 class system is so new, it's hard to say how much longterm success they'll have. There will likely be alot of years that teams like BG, John Hardin, Owensboro, Dixie or a few others will be on par with them, whereas Highlands will likely always be a Top 2-3 team, or at least they have been and I see no reason to think that won't continue...
  7. True, but, they have built a pretty solid program in a short period of time that is better than alot of the programs thats been in existence for a long time. Maybe seperated themselves was the wrong wording. I'm just saying they're doing well for themselves, at least in the short term and there future looks bright, but, you're right, they need a few more years of success, some consistency and a championship or 2 before they'll be considered an elite 1a program in the Beechwood or Mayfield class...
  8. I'd have to think Raceland and Mayfield could both give them a run for there money, but, LCA has definately seperated themselves from most of the 1a teams out there and have a great shot of bringing home the hardware this year...
  9. What will a couple of weeks prove? Surely, you wouldn't base much on a preseason scrimmage...Some teams really put alot of effort in winning them, while others prefer to try various personnel and sets and experiment with things...I don't think much at all can be gauged on a scrimmage even if the score were 30-0...
  10. 1) St X 2) Trinity 3) Male 4) Highlands 5) John Hardin 6) Manual 7) Cov Catholic 8) Bowling Green 9) Lex Catholic 10) Bell Co
  11. A couple of things that stood out to me here was Holy Cross at 14 and Lloyd barely in the Top 20...I think both these teams should be a little higher with Holy Cross likely a Top 10 team...Also, Caldwell Co at 11 was a little surprising...I expect them to field a competitive team, but, I'm a little hessitent to put them much better than in the 16-20 range...
  12. I think the Top 5 are pretty solid. After that, it's a crapshoot. Bellevue's probably too high, but, there's not much difference in #7 to #15, just depends on who plays the best as this will likely flip flop all year. I don't see any after 5 ever cracking that top tier list though. Campbellsville and Holy Cross probably have the best chance...
  13. I think it just shows how far 3 thru 10 are from the top 2...They should have put about a 2 inch gap after Bell...
  14. I don't see much problem with that, but, my order would be slightly different and I'd add Cov H.Cross in the mix... 1-2-3 in any order Danville NCC Ft Campbell 4-10 in no particular order Prestonsburg Oboro Catholic Corbin Green Co Cov Holy cross Desales Trigg Co 11-15 in no particular order Bardstown Glasgow Lloyd Mem Murray Metcalfe Co 16+ in no particular order Monroe Co S.Valley Caldwell Co Middlesboro CAL
  15. Well, if you're throwing Owens Cath out there then you gotta throw Trigg Co out there, too. I think they're pretty equal in talent with Trigg possibly having a little more returning and if Desales is dressing 80+ kids, you gotta think they'll have enough talent to win it all. They were pretty solid last year..I also think by years end, Corbin could be really good. They may struggle early, but, by yrs end, they'll have a say in things..
  16. And I forgot Monroe Co...They supposedely have alot back and have been building for this year....
  17. I agree...Unlike the other classes with 2 or 3, maybe 4 legit contenders, 2a has at least 7 or 8 real contenders with at least that many more that can beat you if you're not hitting on all cylinders...
  18. With the improvement of programs like Lloyd, Desales, Green Co, Cov Holy Cross & Murray, then your typical powers, NCC, Ft Campbell, Danville, Corbin and throw in a few more solid programs like Middlesboro, Bardstown, ObCatholic, Trigg Co, PBurg, Caldwell Co, Glasgow & Metcalfe Co and 2a is shaping up to be awefully tough. That's 17 teams right there that are capable of beating anyone on a given night and all could very well be Top 10 teams when it's all said and done. Should be interesting to say the least...
  19. That's right..I was thinking Oboro for some reason
  20. I agree, they'll likely be the favorite in 6a D1, mainly due to a weaker than usual district, but, there still a far cry from a Top 10 6a team, and there's a ton of teams in the other classes that'll be much stronger than them, Highlands, CCath, BG, JH, Dixie, Lex Cath, Bell Co, Franklin Co. off the top of my head and then about 12-15 teams in the 3 smaller classes and that doesn't justify a Top 25 ranking...
  21. Is Owensboro Mayfields other scrimage this year? I know they came to Mayfield last year...By the way, Milan is loaded this year... Everyone in the West Tn area is predicting big things from the Bulldogs this year in Tn 2a.. Not that that's any different than any other year, but they're talking "Special" this year...
