Highlands and CCH

Featured Replies

Are they turning into the next Trinity and St. X???? These two keep getting better and making each other better while the rest of the state falls further behind(with an occasional challenge from Male).

Highlands has been rolling for some time under Mueller, and it sounds as if Brossart has things rolling in Park Hills.

Will 5A become a 2 horse race as well every year?????

Highlands are CCH are two of the best teams in the state each year.

You know it would be nice to see CovCath and Highlands in different regions like X and Trinity. That way they could meet in the State game. BTW, how does one go about changing regions around so the top two meet almost every year?

Keep in mind, in order for this scenario to play out both teams will need to stay in the same class for years to come. With HHS technically a 3A school playing up 2 classes and CCH a 4A school playing up 1 class I wonder how long these two will be able to stay together. I heard some talk on BGP awhile back that in the future the KHSAA may not allow programs to play up. Also, I would venture to guess that LexCath might continue to grow in size and thus move up to the same class with HHS and CCH. If such a scenario occurred then this class would definitely be at least a three-horse race.

Keep in mind that over the past several years HHS and CCH have NOT been the best two teams in the class each year. In 2001 it was probably Boyle County and Hopkinsville. In 2002 it was probably Boyle County and Hopkinsville. In 2003 it was probably Boyle County and either HHS or PT. In 2004 it was probably HHS and Boyle County. In 2005 it was probably LexCath and CCH. In 2006 it was probably CCH and LexCath. In 2007 it was probably HHS and BG.

I think that in old 4A/new 6A, it almost always comes down to Trinity, Saint X and Male being the best in class, and the recent trend certainly points to it being more of a two-horse race between T and X than a true three-horse race.

Of course I am biased, but I always think it's so much more interesting when HHS and CCH are battling it out for class supremacy compared to times when it's either HHS or CCH fighting a non-NKY program for best in old 3A/new 5A (or God forbid two non-NKY teams hashing it out)!!! Those years early in this decade were some dark times!!!! Ha!

Gosh, I hope not. But it certainly looks that way for now.

You'll probably need to contact someone from X or T. :D

I don't think T or X have had a loosing season recently and Cov. Cath has had 2 in the last 5 seasons. So I will wait for Cov. Cath to show me before I believe, but Highlands is as dominant in their class as any school.

To echo the last post, you can't put CCH in the company of the other three schools. Three or four years from now maybe, but not today.

Keep in mind CCH plays the toughest or atleast one of the toughest schedules year in and out.

I also forgot to mention that CCH won a title less than two years ago, which is more than X has to show atleast.

How can you put CCH in the same ballpark as Highlands? Brossart has been there a year and Highlands beat them by some 40 points his only year there. I think CovCath; under coach Brossart, need to prove themeselves before we can start comparing them to Mueller and Highlands.

From an outsiders perspective, it seems the difference in the 2 is Highlands seems to always be in the hunt for a championship while CC fields great teams every 3-4 years and average to good teams the other years. With exception to the recent championship team that CC fielded, I'd say they weren't one of the Top 2-3 teams in there class too often and since the 6 class system is so new, it's hard to say how much longterm success they'll have. There will likely be alot of years that teams like BG, John Hardin, Owensboro, Dixie or a few others will be on par with them, whereas Highlands will likely always be a Top 2-3 team, or at least they have been and I see no reason to think that won't continue...
