BGP 2A Rankings

Featured Replies

Whats your thoughts? What stood out to me:

1. The return of the Ads? Debut at #2 and leapfrog NewCath...

2. Pburg goes from loss in Regionals to #4 and well ahead of Desales who knocked them out?

3.Can Green County copy last season's success with their Top 5 ranking, rival Metcalfe is 10 spots behind them?

A couple of things that stood out to me here was Holy Cross at 14 and Lloyd barely in the Top 20...I think both these teams should be a little higher with Holy Cross likely a Top 10 team...Also, Caldwell Co at 11 was a little surprising...I expect them to field a competitive team, but, I'm a little hessitent to put them much better than in the 16-20 range...

Overall the 2A rankings look good to me. :thumb::thumb:

Kind of surprised NCC is not #2, but I had the same top three either way.

As Scribe mentioned in another thread, 2A is probably THE most competitive with the smallest differences between team 1-10. Please keep that in mind.

1. Danville doesn't really "leapfrog" NewCath. There are possible concerns with NCC's defense. Though they had the opportunity to sub freely last year, only ONE full-time starter is returning. The Ads return a modicum of talent on BOTH sides of the ball.

2. Team info indicates DeSales does not return the quantity nor quality of talent as do the Blackcats. Prestonsburg returns 8 starters on either side of the ball, including its two primary RBs.

3. Green Co. returns NINE starters on each side of the ball. That says it all at this point.

I think Green County will be very good this fall.

Caldwell Co. gets extra credit because their starting QB and best receiver while running the Franklin spread offense. As a kicker, they also return their their leading rusher. While the defense could be questionable, on paper, Caldwell looks like an offense load at this point.

Holy Cross was 6-6 last year and have no returners at QB or RB. The defense looks pretty solid, however.

Lloyd went 3-8 last year. Graduation losses hit the defense harder than the offense. That's not good when the defense gave up 31 per game. Why should the Juggs be higher ?

Agreed.

No one should forget the Dragons were a very young team that was undefeated until their playoff loss to Metcalf Co.

What bothers me about Green County is they got thumped in the playoffs. A few years back, Green was undefeated in the regular season again and didn't advance far in the playoffs. Their lack of postseason experience and ability to win the "big game" may work against them later in the season. Right now, Green is a top five team.

Who would you move out of the top 10 to make room for Holy Cross?

Other than a so so Pikeville team who did Prestonsburg beat In 07 that would merit them being ranked so high even with returning 8 starters on either side of the ball?? Other than Breathitt County ,Beechwood ,Perry County Central and DeSales (who all beat Prestonburg) there combined opponents W/L was 38-65

Prestonsburg at #4 has me

Bardstown

The Breathitt Co. and Beechwood games were closely played. The Perry Central and DeSales losses (which were also close games) came after the loss of P-burg's starting QB (among other key injuries) late in the season.

Pikeville may not have had one of their stronger teams, but describing them as "so so" isn't correct. The Panthers went 9-4.
