As of today, I would agree. Bardstown has as-of-yet unaddressed line issues. I don't care how fast you are, you don't get the corner is you're buckling back every play.

Is DeSales ranked #1 in the state? I have heard this but can not find it in any polls. I only have seen a ranking of 9 or 10.

The Breathitt Co. and Beechwood games were closely played. The Perry Central and DeSales losses (which were also close games) came after the loss of P-burg's starting QB (among other key injuries) late in the season.

 

Pikeville may not have had one of their stronger teams, but describing them as "so so" isn't correct. The Panthers went 9-4.

 

I know you support your team and all but to put DeSales at the bottom and Prestonsburg at #4 is a little comical. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I do think you are greatly underestimating DeSales this year.

Other than a so so Pikeville team who did Prestonsburg beat In 07 that would merit them being ranked so high even with returning 8 starters on either side of the ball?? Other than Breathitt County ,Beechwood ,Perry County Central and DeSales (who all beat Prestonburg) there combined opponents W/L was 38-65

Like oneijoe said, Prestonsburg played Breathitt County & Beechwood close. In fact Prestonsburg held Breathitt County to 13 points, no other team on their schedule held them that low, Beechwood beat Prestonsburg because of a turnover late in the game, and quarterback Bobby Hughes got injured versus Pikeville, sophomore Michael Burchett had to step in and Prestonsburg struggled the next two game versus Shelby Valley & Perry County Central. Burchett couldn't make the same passes as Hughes could and thats why he overthrew a few receivers versus DeSales, Hughes was also an excellent scrambler.

 

If Hughes wouldn't have got injured then I believe that the DeSales game would have been a totally different story.

You don't need to make a case for the Colts to me - I'm a believer. If I'm "greatly underestimating" DeSales, that means they're bound to win the 2A Title !!

What's the verdict in Blackcat Country? Is this team going to be as good as or better than the 2004 Blackcats? Aside from the Pburg team who was state runner-up to Mayfield some years back, that 2004 squad was the best Pburg team I have seen, even better than the 2001 Runner-ups.

Caldwell Co. gets extra credit because their starting QB and best receiver while running the Franklin spread offense. As a kicker, they also return their their leading rusher. While the defense could be questionable, on paper, Caldwell looks like an offense load at this point.

 

Holy Cross was 6-6 last year and have no returners at QB or RB. The defense looks pretty solid, however.

 

Lloyd went 3-8 last year. Graduation losses hit the defense harder than the offense. That's not good when the defense gave up 31 per game. Why should the Juggs be higher ?

 

The Juggs will have a defense this year that will have people surprised. As for the 31 points a game their run defense was bad but that will change. Also look who they played. E-Town, Beechwood, LCA, New Cath, Holy Cross etc.

I have a hard time understanding Monroe at 17th. I assume that more credence was placed on last years performance than what the falcons are returning this year, and with the falcons dressing 73 players 40+ being juniors and seniors I for one expect a much different outcome this year, mainly because of the seniors on this team which had never lost a game in middle school through JV and the list of teams they beat was impressive and includes Green, Metcalfe and Glasgow and not to mention Bowling Green twice and Greenwood twice as well. I guess that’s why its hard for me to see them getting ranked in the bottom part of the state and last in the district…

I'm not sure I follow about Monroe Co. They won two games last year. Their seniors may not have lost in middle school or JV but many were starters on a team that won two games last year. Ever since they crushed Trigg in the first round and nearly won the region, they have been a team of underachievers since Myers took the Russellville job.

No doubt people expected more from the juniors last year, however I don’t think means much for this years team. Last years team had problems at key positions and lacked senior leadership not to mention talent, this years team lacks neither...

If the majority of the teams starters are back and weren't talented, then why, just because they're srs are they supposed to be now...I know players improve and get a little stronger, but, non talented jrs don't automatically make talented srs, just because there a yr older, and if they're as talented as you say, they would have won more than 2 games last year. I, for one, don't put much stock in what kids do in 8th and 9th grade, because alot kids will play at the earlier stages and then for various reasons, decide not to play once they reach HS...

A good arguement aganist HC, but as for anyone who has seen the new tailback, Andy Roenker(6'0 215, 4.8 speed, started defense last year ), and Markel Walker (started both ways last year, 6'3 185, 4.5 or 4.6 speed and for anyone who watched him last year was an all 2-A althlete) they look to be set to have a few growing pains in learning new positions, but they have both played these before and are moving in quite nicely. The D has looked very solid but even as a huge HC fan they have loads of talent but will need to adapt and prove themselves before getting moved into the top ten, so although I think they should and will be a top 10 or top 5 team, only time will tell.:thumb:

All I can say about Newcath is that the will score and BE scored upon at will. And Lloyds O will be tough.
