Noone is disputing Highlands, CC, Beechwood and NCC..They're very solid programs, but, it's my contention that just because these teams are premier programs within the state, has nothing to do with where there from, but, more to do with there individual programs. Every area has premier programs but that doesn't make there area any better than any other. To me, it says more about these particular teams and thats it.

When you mention NKy, it was my understanding those 2 teams are from NKy, are they not? When someone makes a claim that a particular area plays better football, that would, imo, count the entire area, not just a few teams. Now if you want to retract that to a few elite programs, I may be more inclined to agree with you. It just seems NKy wants to make there area the premier area while in reality, riding a few teams coattails.

This is a pretty good opportunity for someone. Murrays always got some solid athletes and if they get someone in there that'll show some interest and dedication, they have the potential to be a solid program.

They've got that new weight room facility, hopefully, they'll use it. Several of these kids also play basketball and baseball and that hurts the weight progress. Call it the curse of being a 1a school, just not enough different kids to play all the sports..I'm sure many 1a schools face that same issue..

You may be right, but, I still contend Hazard was considerably better than Raceland. You have to consider more than just Racelands close loss and the Hazard playoff loss.. Raceland also got blown out by LCA and Hazard also defeated LCA handily in the regular season.. Neither Racelands nor Hazards schedule would knock your socks off, but, in looking at both, I think they were about even and Hazard had the better record and was ranked considerably higher in every poll throughout the year, so, I'm not the only one who would feel that way. Since they didnt play each other, we'll never know for sure, but, imo, if they would have, I feel Hazard would have beat then by 2-3 TDs..

I would like to split the difference and go with 5 classes..That would be 42 to 43 in each class. I do like the rotating regions each year but would make it at least the 2nd round before you play another team in your own district.

What you just said makes no sense...Read the threads after the Highlands/BGreen game as well as the ones from the past 2 years. On numerous occasions, these 3 teams were deemed there best teams ever. If you believe NKy is that much dominant, then why isn't Boone or Ryle dominating in 6a, or how in the world could a lowly Wky team like Ft Campbell beat the almighty Breds and by the way, imo, that wasn't an upset at all and for that matter, if NKy were that much better, how in the world did Lex Cath knock both of them out 2 years ago. You don't have to buy into it, but, if there own supporters are saying it, then there must be some merit to it.

Played X, Male, Manual this year, as well as Highlands,Johnson Central and Bullitt East..Like I said, they don't dodge competition...

Guhy was listed at 140 but considering he was just a freshman, I'm sure he'll get bigger. I think he'll do fine, plus Xavier plays defense too. I hate to lose a solid defensive guy because he's the QB. I think it hurt Mayfield defensively this year with Logan not being in there at LB all the time.

One things for sure, Central doesn't dodge anyone, based on this yrs schedule, anyway..

What class will they be in and what do you expect from Harlan Co Consolidated next year?

I thing Wyatt will be good for Tilghman. He's well respected there, is a alum and I believe will relate to the players well. Not sure about his xs and os though. If he gets a good O and D coordinator in place, I think they'll be fine.. One thing I think you'll see is he'll bring alot of those track athletes with him that currently don't play, so, that could make them even faster than they usually are now. I think Haskins would have been a good choise too but I think they may have been looking for someone who'll be there for the long haul and not just 2 to 3 years and then retire. I don't think Jack has that many years left before he calls it quits...

I like that Lex Cath game though. You could really make it good by replacing Central with Lex Cath..That would even be tougher in my opinion..

I'd love to see this as Mayfields schedule: 1) Milan, Tn ... Great traditions at both meeting in a preseason bowl game. Coaches Joe Morris vs Jeff Morris, cousins, to start the season with a bang. 2) Ft Campbell ... Let's bring back the old rivalry from the 80s on home and home. 2 solid programs in same geographic area. Makes sense. 3) Hopkinsville ... Hated to see this rivalry go away this year. Always a great game that could go either way. 4) Fulton Co ... District game and after the 1st 3, will need a breather to get there barrings back. 5) Graves Co... County rivalry that'll bring out a full house. 6) Ballard Memorial ... District game. See Fulton Co above. 7) Fulton City ... District Game with what should be alot on the line. 8) Crittenden Co ... same as #7. 9) Owens Catholic ... A good game against a pass oriented team to help prepare them for the playoffs. 10) Pad Tilghman ... Lets put this 100 yr old rivalry back in its proper place, just like the good ole days.

Ouch! That would be a killer schedule.

I've heard others make that same comment about trying Shelton at the QB position..I've not seen him play there so can't really say how that may go, but, he would definately give them some athleticism there..Can he pass the ball though? If not, I'd hate to see them be so one dimentional. You know, as well as me, it's almost impossible to advance real far in the playoffs with no threat of a passing game, plus, he's there biggest playmaker from the WR spot so it could effect that aspect, too...

One thing you can say about Pikeville, they don't back down from competition. There schedule was solid for a 1a team. I know they took a beatdown from LCA in the playoffs, but, I don't really like to base the entire body of work on 1 bad outing. I think they'll be right in the hunt with the other 3. Is there anyone else on the east side with alot of returning players or some good underclassman coming up...What about Fairview, Lynn Camp, Williamsburg, Campbellsville..Anyone know what to expect from these teams? On the westside, I could see Crittenden Co being alot better and Fulton City also being solid. I've heard that S.Fulton, Tn is having alot of problems with there program and a few kids may cross over and join up with Fulton City. I could also see a few Fulton Co kids trying to do the same. A little success has a way to somehow sway kids in that direction. Anyone know what Lou Holy Cross, Bethlehem or Trimble Co may have returning or coming up?

I call it more bad luck than anything...All 3 of BGs losses in the finals were to teams that have been called there best ever. I think alot of people would put this years Highlands team against some of there other great teams. You don't get a Top 20 national ranking without being very good and alot of those past great teams can't say that.. I believe the 06 CC team was the best CC team of there history. Alot of folks in the know, feel the same way. In 05, Lex Catholic was absolutely loaded with offensive firepower and athleticism and I believe there best ever. I definately think they were better than this years version. I really have no idea about the coaching staff of BG, but, I do believe they were unfortunate in the fact they had to play these particular teams these last 3 years. It reminds me alot of Mayfield in the late 80s and early 90s, when they had outstanding ballclubs that could have won with those teams in most years, but, Danville just happened to have some of there best teams ever at the same time...

I think his exact words were " They're all that and a bag of chips" and that this could very well be one of the most talented teams they've ever had. Like you, though, he may have recanted that as the season progressed. I don't remember seeing it, but, its very possible.

That may be so, in comparing there schedule to a few of the elite programs, but, thats still a very solid schedule with arguably the best 6 teams in that immediate area...

I think you're thinking of the Richardson kid. He is, no doubt, a talent, but, moreso on the defensive side of the ball. He'll likely replace Simpkins at the LB spot.. I thought Xavier Shelton was a Sr.. Wow, he's a pretty impressive sophmore, if thats indeed what he was. From what I saw of Guhy, he's a very heady player that doesn't make alot of mistakes. He got some valuable playing time in several games that Logan was out and I thought he had a pretty accurate arm. He just needs to get in the weight room and get a little stronger. I'm excited about the RBs they have returning. Trevarthan was solid, but, was hurt all the time and give "Rump" Noonan and Tyreese Murrell another yr to get stronger and I believe there running game will be alot better. Rump was just a freshman and Murrell just a sophmore, so they'll have those 2 for another couple of years. Hopefully some of those big freshman and sophmore lineman will step up and dedicate themselves to the weight room and get a little more strength and agility. They definately have some size and ability if they'll do that. To me, there biggest loss will be McNutt, there kicker. He was a great weapon on kickoffs and could make up to 45-50 yds out. Thats hard to replace. The Cards lost 13 srs but, really only 5-6 that were really solid contributers. They didn't have too big of a Jr class, so, they'll again be a young team in 08. I think they'll be a little better than this years team by the end of the year, at least from an overall talent standpoint..

Actually S.Pittsburg was an offensive juggernaut this year. They ended up 15-0 and scored over 50 in the 1a championship game against a very solid McKenzie team.. They would most likely be a favorite over Beechwood, but, it would be a great game... I think Trinity could handle Brentwood this year and MBA/St X would be a tossup.. I'd have to take Maryville over Highlands. You don't win 60+ in a row and 4 straight 4a championships without being awefully good. Alcoa is only a 2a school, but, they've also won like 4 2a championships in a row and about the only losses they have in the last 4 years were to Maryville.. They could most likely win 3a and 5a in Tn and would be better competition for 4a than what Maryville has faced. Lex Catholic may have the athletes to match up, though and that, imo, would be another tossup...

How about a Ky Vs Tn matchup Trinity Vs Brentwood Academy St X Vs MBA Highlands Vs Maryville Lex Catholic Vs Alcoa Beechwood Vs S.Pittsburg

I think you'll find very similar #s with most states...Every state has there traditional 10 or so powers that take in alot of the trophies...
