Who was the head coach at Campbellsville and where did he go? I did not realize the job was even open?

Logan had an amazing passion for the game of football. He would have been a great head coach one day. He was a panther through and through. I used to love watching him hop up and down the sidelines. His passion rolled over to the kids he coached. He will be deeply missed. It is so tragic at such a young age. May he rest in peace and our prayers from Grant County are with his family and loved ones, as well as the entire panther nation.

I can assure you with the upmost confidence that the ones mentioned were pursued and pursued hard. I will say this in the defense of all sports at GCHS. Every coach there tries very hard to increase participation and does recruit the halls to get kids to come be apart of their programs. Just because they used to play, or are tall, big or athletic does not mean they have the heart, desire, or committment to be a contributing factor to any team. Many of these kids may play other sports or concentrate on one sport. Maybe they don't want to put in the time to be great, or maybe mom and dad don't want to fool with the aggrevation of practice times and off season time that high school takes. If you want to be good, you must have players that want to be there, and are willing to be apart of a TEAM; not just selfish babies that want to quit when they don't get their way or when they they are ask to work but they would rather hang out with girlfirends or friends that lure them away to do things that no one needs to be doing. Just my opinion but I can assure you that there are kids in the halls, but that does not mean they are a good fit for a particular team at GCHS.

How can you be so sure it is Fraley? I know he interviewed but there was other as well who interviewed that are experienced, like Hicks, who I am hearing it could be. I would like to see Tim get it, if they are going out of district, nothing against Hicks, he is a good coach, just happen to know Tim is a great guy and would be fun to see what he could bring to the program. But I will say that they do have a guy that would not leave in Utter if they pick him. He is a great young coach.

I agree with you and think they need to get the right coach, but I know of no 6'5 kid on the team. They graduated the two big guys Davis and Wartman. The Kearns kid could be who you are thinking of but would not really consider him a big man. Kohler subbed alot for Davis at Center, he is only about 6'1 or 6'2. The braves should be guard and small forward heavy the next couple of years with a couple of true big guys coming up.

Amen,:ylsuper: I know their players, and can say they have several that have class and character. I hope whoever they hire is committed to stay a while and build a program. I hear about some of the candidates and don't think some will stay very long. I will say this, the freshman beat Carroll County everytime last year, panther, and with that talent and the sophomores and juniors coming back if the right coach can get in there and teach them how to play as a team then anything can happen. They can and will compete in the district and you never know on any given night in the regions it might just break in their favor. But at the end of the day, I want my son and the other boys to have an experience that they will remember for a lifetime. Best of luck to the braves next year.

The Braves will be coming off a 3-7 season but only graduated 8 seniors. They return 7 on offense and 8 on defense. They played a lot of young kids last year. They will still be young but with the return of Justin Loomis at running back and linebacker, he was out due to injury and is back stronger and more determined than ever. He will be a force next year. They return 4 out of 5 on the o-line, their QB and WR who will just be sophomores. They add Tyler Robinson and Dustin Haar in the backfield that are very talented sophomores. Look for Seniors to be Robbie Kohler, Brian Mullins, Brandon Holder and Preston Cahill to lead the Braves on the offensive side of the ball along with Loomis. On the defensive side of the ball, all the d-line is back, Loomis is back to linebacker along with returning starters from last year, Lucas Button, Adam Keller, in the secondary Nick Cox will return at corner and freshman two way starter Shelby Caudill will be back at safety. There is good team speed and strength on this side of the ball. There will be several up and coming players challenging for spots on defense which will make the braves the deepest they have been since Davis took over the 5 years ago. Overall the team will have a lot of players playing both sides of the ball that can contribute. They will still be young, but the experienced gained by the young braves last year will play major role in the success of the team this year. They have a lot of young talented players that are lineman and skilled kids, should be fun to watch them grow as a team and get back on the winning track

Hey it was just a thought, I know Euton is slow and I am not a fan of Scott County. I was rooting for SV. I just noticed that and heard others say that and knowing both players and the referee involved, I can say it was a odd tidbit.

Here let me give you a good thought: When Euton fouled out in the quarterfinals, I am certain that 4 possibly 5 of the fouls called on Euton were called by the 16th region official. Same one also called 3 of the fouls on Jackson in the semi's when he fouled out. They did come from the 16th region to Scott County and I know that they did not get many calls when they played there at Rose Hill either. This same official was dreaded by all fans when he walked into the gym to call a Rose Hill game. Now I am not saying that cost them the game or anything, just saying it is interesting to look at.

There is no probably about it. In NKY we just had 15 inches of snow melt off the fields and they are sloppy and the small peak of 50 degree weather will not dry them out to make due for great practices. There needs to be more to the proposal to make it better. Here is some things I think need to happen: 1. Let the schools choose their window, with the exception that you can not practice during your schools testing window, and you must complete it before school is out. Your school must submit your dates before Oct. 1st or not be allowed to participate in spring football. 2. I think that 8th graders should be allowed to participate in spring practice with the high school team. That would help introduce them to the ways things are done at the high school level. Also I don't understand why this is such a big deal, I mean they can lift and condition with them, why not let them practice with them. I know that 8th graders partgicipate in open gyms with basketball teams, so why not let them do the same for football. This would be especially beneficial for your small schools, who lose numbers when baseball and track starts. 3. I do not understand why the football team gets punished if their basketball team does not get the job done in the district tournament, but yet if my basketball team makes it far then I get the opportunity to have better weather, that makes no sense.

I have thought long and hard about posting on this subject. I am a parent and coach at Grant County. I have had two sons played for Coach Kinmon and Coach Utter. I first want to say that both of these men are class acts all the way, as well as their assistant coaches they have had this year and in the past. I agree it is much easier to sit in the stands and question every move a coach makes. I agree at times I found my self doing that very thing this year. It is tough to want success so much and not see it happen, but I am not the one spending everyday giving everything I have trying to make the basketball team and program better. These gentlemen were and all I can say is thank you. As for the 3 young men mentioned in shotdoc's post, not to piggyback 11's post but you will not find a group of finer young men then the three you have mentioned and their parents are great people. I am sure their are pro's and con's for many jobs and Grant County is no different. Whoever gets the job will have a lot of work to do just as any new coach would have in taking over a new team. Whether they choose to stay with Utter or go outside there is work to be done at all levels to improve their "program". I for one would love to see them have two teams at each grade level in middle school. They have a strong youth program and they would benefit by more kids playing basketball through middle school. It would be great to see 18-24 kids trying out for freshman team. All the names that people throw out sound great but the job was just posted and soon the applications and resume's will be coming in, then they will interview and soon enough the Braves will have a head coach. I can say the people that are in charge of making decisions at GCHS, Claudette Herald, the principal and Scott Shipp the AD will do what is best for the students above all. These people love Grant County and will make sure that they pick the best candidate to run the program. Shipp is all about GC athletics and wants all their programs succeed and will do whatever he can to help make that happen. All I can wish for as a coach and parent of a braves basketball player I hope that the community, and all those involved will get behind whoever the administration picks and get the fire back in the stands and the supports the program like I hear it was in the past. Great atomosphere and a great game by both teams. Hated to see Grant lose but they fought their hearts out and have nothing to be ashamed of. It was probably the most complete game I saw by the braves all season long. Really played as a team, thanks to Mike Davis and Wartman for their hard work as the only two seniors on the team all year. You guys faced a lot of adversity all season and handled it well. Best of luck to these two great young men in the future, I know you both will be successful. Also best fo luck to Walton in the title game.

Congrats to Jake, he is a great player and a good person, he will be a great asset for Coach Hood.

If the braves can feed the post and the big men can get the ball to the hole it could cause issues for SK. The braves are young and they will need to take care of the ball on every trip down the floor. They must slow Sorrell down and play great defense in order to get the job done. Good Luck Braves.

Read into it what you wish I was commenting to add to Blackshirts great research. Ray did a great job for years but that team was helped by the KHSAA's great trial of inter district play that year. How far would they have gone if they would have played Winston Guy and Lex. Cath that year in the 2nd round not the power house known as Greenup County that year.

Great research, let us not forget that he brought Harrsion County their first district championship in 7 years.

I guess when you are playing at Watkins field and not being successful then certain people can get upset. Also when kids at a banquet don't get the awards that daddy thinks they should get, then maybe Stepp is better off not being there. I have it on high regards that the same people bashing Stepp are the ones that ran Ledford out of town and then talk about how great Ledford is now. As long as the boosters and parents run the show no coach that does not do what they want then this cycle will not end. To comment to footballhd, nothing personal on my comment, but if we believed everything about what we read from people who hide behind a call name and bash a man on a internet website, come on. This is high school football, these coaches put in tons of hours for peanuts and if my kid does not get what I think they deserve; then I am going to bash the man taking time from his family to spend time with my child. Maybe we should question the motives of those people.

First of all, I just want to say that until you walk in Coach Stepp's shoes or any other head coaches shoes I suggest you do not judge. For the record he apparently did not have any problem at Berea or Clay, he built those programs to winners. He took the Harrison job on promises that never came through. As for Franklin, it was other factors that were personal for him deciding to resign and it is no one elses business other than him and his family. I wish Coach Stepp the best, he is a great football mind and maybe Franklin will find the right person for them. I here Mike Leach is looking for a job, or maybe they can pay Tony Franklin the big dollars to come in run the team.
