Gilbert is a very nice player and would agree with an earlier poster that he was the most underrated player on Mason County the past couple of years. I would state that if he played his way onto the KY All Star team with a great tryout over Shanklin & Smith even better for him. However, to state that overall he is a better player than Smith overall?? I don't think you have seen Smith play very often with that statement. Smith averaged 19.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 7.5 apg this season and he was voted by the Northern Kentucky Basketball Coaches as their D1 POY and Defensive POY. Smith will also be getting his education paid for at the D2 level. Led Scott to their 4th consecutive District Championship and was MVP for the tournament for the 3rd year in a row in the toughest district in the 10th Region. Intangibles...led a team with very average talent to 19 wins, district championship and regional semifinal. Basketball IQ....his coach has been quoted as saying he is the smartest player he has ever coached. While you might have seen a lot of Gilbert I don't think you have seen a lot of Smith....

Never surprised when a coach decides it is time to move on in this day and time. The expectations of the parents and alumni of CovCath make it one of the toughest jobs in Northern Kentucky. The talent level that comes in also make it one of the better jobs in the area. Good luck to Coach Listerman!

Congrats to the players who made the team. There was a lot of good talent on display and some very good players did not make the team. Not so sure what the perfect system would be to pick a team and until someone can come up with a better way this is pretty much what we have. All Star games have become increasingly less important to the kids with the growth of AAU. These guys already play against these players every summer on the circuit. I think it is more important to the fans than it is to the players as you can see from the level of players that chose to not even try out.

Two Shining Star teams in the finals of the 15U and two Shining Star teams in the finals of the 16U at the Bearcat Classic. Not sure about 17U.

Zollo actually spends more time on the perimeter than Giesler. He has very good range on his jump shot and does a nice job shooting the three. GRC uses Rogers in the more traditional post up role.

And that can be said about a lot of players on this list including Zollo. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I have been as critical of Zollo as anyone when he first came into the area in my belief that he wasn't an SEC caliber recruit but he has been a very good player on a very good team in GRC and been a difference maker on that team. There is a reason that each player has been recruited to the level where they will end up.

Was thinking very same thing.....especially with Coach Cox of Mount St Joe's. How do you explain that to current players and kids you are recruiting??:confused:

Not so sure I would take Giesler over Zollo that quickly. Not a knock on Giesler it's just that he put up his numbers in a very weak 9th Region as compared to Zollo playing a role on a much better team in a much tougher region. GRC also played against a much tougher out of region schedule. There is a reason that the 10th Region has 6 players invited to these tryouts versus the 9th having 2.

I don't get the "Judges"? Is there some type of historical background that I am just not familiar with and could someone fill me in on it? That would really be a unique nickname but how does it fit? Why the move to change the nickname? Is this another round of political and religious correctness to change a schools mascot?

I think Brossarts depth gives them the edge in the 37th next year. Fardo, Saunders and Jennings are a good trio to build around and they are very talented in the younger age groups. Look for Brossart and Campbell to start the season as top two teams in district but never count out a Brad Carr coached Scott team. Losing a 3 year starter at PG is never easy but they had a talented soph in Pouncey who got some varsity minutes last year and played very well in JV games. Only thing certain in the 37th is that by year end district games will be a dogfight and a pretty good team will be sitting at home watching regional games.

Just my opinion but I think Zeke will play basketball. He has always been very passionate about basketball and the family connection to Dixie basketball runs pretty deep. However, with thaat being said at the quarterback position there has been a trend to graduate in December and be available for spring practice to get a head start on learning the offense. You see that more at that position than any other position. If he signs at a school where he has an opportunity to compete for a starting position as a true frosh that becomes a lot tougher decision.

I don't think Eastern has an answer for Rogers. Don't know if anyone left in the tournament has an answer for that match up. GRC in a close one today and then on to cutting down the nets on Saturday.

One of the more successful N Ky teams over the past few years has been Scott HS and they do play a pressing trapping style of ball with a very aggressive half court man. I think Carr does a great job teaching this system and like LexCath it is part of the "program". Coach Carr's teams can be very disruptive on defense and force teams to play at a tempo that they are not comfortable with.

The summer circuit is an integral part of a players ability to get recruited. Players need to get in the gym and work on improving their games individually but the summer circuit allows them to showcase their abilities against good competition in front of the college coaches.

Scott HS has a nice press box situated directly behind home plate and should give you sufficient room to broadcast.
