Leave everything the way it is. The district championship still means something. In fact it means a lot when you win one and get to take that district champion trophy home. There are a lot of schools in Ky that aren’t running out of room to put “another district trophy” in the case. The excitement you see when one of the little guys wins one is unmatched and it’s real. At that moment it means everything. This year in particular it meant more to win the district in the 10th because that helped you avoid GRC for one game at least. It is the older crowd that gets more excited this time of year but don’t change things and take away from the kids that recently have had enough taken from them already.

Augusta’s gym, affectionately known as the “Panther’s Den,” is still in great shape and very much in use. The gym was built in 1926 and has undergone many renovations to keep it up to date over the years. By the time the gym reaches 100 years the Panthers plan on hosting the 39th district tournament in their new gym that is expected to seat 1,000 fans and sit to the east of the current gym on Augusta’s cozy little campus in the center of town. The current gym has hosted many different events over the years and will still be a very vital part of the school and community for years to come. So if you’re a fan of the old school cracker box gyms this is certainly one to see. It’ll take you back in time. I’ve included a video of a game vs. Bracken County from February 13, 2016. It was shot from the stage and has a great view of all the seating available. Fun fact, this was the last time Augusta and Bracken County met in the regular season until December 6, 2019 also at Augusta, when fans lined up hours before to get in to see that one. Sad news to hear. Was a staple of NKY sports for many years. Condolences to his family and those who knew him best.

One of the biggest gripes about this whole situation is that the 10th region faithful will not heavily attend the games in Covington. So how do schools in the 10th make money from this event? Online tix only is a good way to make that happen. At the end of the day this tournament is about the kids. But let’s be honest, it’s also about money. If I choose to watch I know that no one will take my parking spot, my seat, and the popcorn is free. Predictions: Mason GRC GRC GRC Campbell Campbell Harrison GRC might be playing their best ball of the season right now and that’s tough to say when you’re 30-1. They cannot be stopped in this tournament.

Throw Campbell County’s record out when we reach this time of year. Brossart might be able to keep it close for a bit but the Camels will take care of business.

It’s been a very long time since these two got together and it could be said it could go either way. Should be a very intense matchup. It’s typically asked how one can deal with the Royals’ defense. But this time around how can they deal with the Polar Bears all out chaos on defense? This is easily the best championship game matchup in the region and it’s being played at the Fieldhouse, the heart of 10th region basketball.

Once again the Panthers season comes to an end at the hands of the Royals. Augusta came out strong on both ends of the floor in the first half, sticking to the game plan that had been drilled in their heads the last week. But then came the 3rd quarter. Mason County picked up the pace and started hitting shots while Augusta went 2-12 and turned the ball over 5 times. The Panthers didn’t quit as they got as close as 6 in the 4th but could not get any closer and fell for the final time this season, 63-52. They finish with a 15-12 record thanks to winning 7 of their last 9 games. Riley Mastin finished with 20 and 12 to lead the Panthers. LJ Conner added 10. Augusta (52) - Mastin 20, Conner 10, Ka. The Augusta Panthers win their 4th straight game to improve to 12-10. Augusta led at each quarter stop and held off the Raiders furious comeback in the final quarter as they outscored the Panthers 21-13. Kason Hinson led Augusta with 24 points, Riley Mastin added 17. It seems unlikely that the Panthers will make the short trip to Brooksville on Friday so they’ll see their sights on Brossart at home on Monday.

Augusta claims their 3rd straight win to improve to 11-10. LJ Conner leads the Panthers with 22 points and was joined in double figures by Kason Hinson with 20, Riley Mastin with 18 and Kylan Hinson with 12. Scott, who never led in this game, tied it up at 54 all early in the 4th quarter but Augusta would outscore the visitors 21-6 to roll to the victory. The Panthers travel to Ryle tomorrow night to face the Raiders and finish the busy week on Friday night in Brooksville.

And that is chapter 1 of the book “How to lose a game” Can’t squander away opportunities that are there for the taking. Sounds like an incredible game to watch.

Should be a good matchup that could easily go either way.

Augusta was able to pick up that win against Tates Creek w/out big man Riley Mastin who’s been resting his sore shoulder. If available he’ll be back on the floor on Tuesday vs. Bryan Station. If not, he’ll likely be out until January 8th’s All A clash with Bracken County.

Big win for the Panthers before Christmas break. Augusta trailed by as many as 10 in the 3rd quarter but fought back in a game that featured multiple ties and lead changes. With the score tied at 74, Tates Creek had possession with 14.6 seconds to go and Kylan Hinson drew a charge on Cobi Commodore stopping the clock with 9.9 seconds to go and giving the ball back to Augusta. Kason Hinson drove three quarters court to put Augusta in front with 1.9 seconds to go. Eric Hackett’s heave from mid court wasn’t close as the Panthers won, 76-74. Augusta improved to 7-4 and Tates Creek fell to 5-3. Kylan Hinson led the Panthers with a career high 22 points. His brother Kason added 18, LJ Conner finished with 14 and Chase Archibald chipped in 11. The Panthers are back in action on December 28th in Maysville against Bryan Station in the MCIT.

About midway through the 3rd quarter Bracken County put the clamps on Augusta and absolutely ran away with this one. The same aggression that put the Polar Bears behind in the first half totally reversed the game in the second half. Credit to BC, they wanted this one badly and they put the work in to get the job done.

Well, the Royals took it to the Panthers last night. Augusta was still in striking distance early into the 4th quarter when Mason County decided the game was over and ran away with the 87-56 victory. The Royals improved to 4-0 while the Panthers fell to 4-2 on the season. Riley Mastin led the scoring with 19 points and was joined in double digits by Chase Archibald with 15 and Kason Hinson with 10. Quick turnaround for Augusta has them back in action tonight at the Fieldhouse at 6pm vs. Felicity-Franklin.

Dave came to Augusta and shared his knowledge with us when we started broadcasting 11 seasons ago. By his own admission he told us he was a little “rough around the edges” and I think that’s what makes him so good at what he does. Always a pleasure to listen to him because no one enjoys their job more than Dave!! Congrats on 20 years! Here’s to 20 more!!

After falling to Great Crossing on Saturday, 69-53, the Augusta Panthers rebounded at home with the 91-63 win over Paris. Kason Hinson led the Panthers with 25 points. Joining him in double figures with 15 points apiece were Riley Mastin, Conner Snapp and LJ Conner. The Panthers will play Mason County on Friday night at the Fieldhouse and they play Felicity-Franklin there on Saturday night in the Mike Murphy Classic.

Panthers cruise to their 3rd straight win to start the season with the 81-57 W over the Lions. Riley Mastin led the Panthers’ scoring once again with 24 points and 10 for his lead third straight double double to start his junior year. Kason Hinson finished with 18, Chase Archibald 15, and Conner Snapp dropped 13. The 3-0 Panthers will have their first ever meeting with the Great Crossings Warhawks on Saturday afternoon at 3pm at Harrison County High School in the State Farm Tip-off Classic.

The Augusta Panthers improved to 2-0 with an 83-66 defeat of the Robertson County Black Devils in the Panthers Den. The game went back and forth early on before Augusta would take the lead for good late in the first quarter and stretch it out to nearly 30 in the 3rd quarter despite the best efforts of Justin Becker with 37 points and 17 rebounds. Riley Mastin paced the Panthers again with 19 points and 18 rebounds. LJ Connor had a strong outing with 18 points off the bench. Kason Hinson added 13 while Conner Snapp and Chase Archibald chipped in with 10 points apiece. Augusta will be back in action on Thursday night at home vs. Lewis County.

The Augusta Panthers got the new campaign off to a strong start with a 76-47 win over the Saints. Riley Mastin led four Panthers in double figures with 23 points. Kason Hinson added 16, Will Kelsch chipped in 13 off the bench and Conner Snapp finished with 10. The 1-0 Panthers will be the first team to face Robertson County and reigning 10th region POY Justin Becker tomorrow night at the Panther’s Den.

Glad to see someone has taken on the job of keeping up with everyone’s favorite, the 10th region. I’m not going to question the rankings, because everybody has their own opinions and week by week whether it’s players or teams, they will change!! That’s part of the fun!! Can’t wait to get the season started and find out what players and teams will emerge as ones we need to keep an eye on!!!!!!

Yes, these are clearly the Cats Pause yearbook rankings but even still I was hoping for some kind of chatter because it’s been so quiet for too long!! Just anxious to get the season and everything that goes with it, on here, going!! Giggity

Quite late to the party in this topic but do yourself a favor and make a trip down the AA highway to Mason County, take the Lexington bypass to the Dinner Bell in Mayslick on 68. Follow them on Facebook to see their daily specials and hours. As for taste, potions and price, you won’t be disappointed. I recommend lots of items but the there’s two that stand out. The baby back ribs, half or full rack on Fridays, and the ribeye steak on Saturdays. Take my advice, plan on an early dinner either night because supplies go fast!! Hoop fans might remember GG Lofton from his high school days at Mason County but you come to the Dinner Bell and you’ll remember him as a chef because he can flat out cook!!!

Where’s the 10th region gang? No replies? No debates? It’s not going to be worth getting on here this season if this is what it’s going to be like. My biggest takeaway from the preview were all the typos. Seems maybe it was thrown together at the last second. Either way, I feel like the fight for the #2 spot should be an all out battle since GRC has a very firm hold on #1. Of course that’s on paper bad we all know the proof is on the court. One month and one day away from the 2021-22 season. Wake up everybody!! The off-season is over!! Let’s go!!!!!!! Giggity.
