  1. Just when you thought this thread was done....It comes back!!! This argument comes up ever so often and is always fueled by those wanted the district to be seeded. Don't wait for the state to come change it, they could care less about it. I'm sure St. Patrick will always vote to draw because they see themselves in the same boat as Augusta who does the best for their kids by voting to draw. Mason County votes to seed just for fun. They are at the top of the food chain and by the size of their school compared to the other three they shouldn't care who they are matched up with. In the 14 years of this district's existence Mason County has brought home 11 championship trophies with the other three going to Augusta. And in the semifinal round the Panthers are 9-5. They are 4-0 vs. St. Pat, 3-1 vs BC and 2-4 vs. MC. Why in the world would we ever want to change it? It gives us the best chance to advance to the 10th region tournament. For the better of the tournament? No, for the better of Augusta!!! #panthernation
  2. Panthers improve to 12-10 on the road with the win.
  3. Congrats to Paris for winning the All A state title. Nice job representing the 10th region!! You've made your fellow All A schools proud!!
  4. Could be a blessing in disguise by opening up an opportunity for a younger player to step up with a chance they didn't think they'd get.
  5. When is Jones due back for Montgomery County? And what kind of injury did he suffer?
  6. Augusta's "Big 3" came to Augusta in junior high and IMO that's totally irrelevant. Swolsky is out with a thumb injury I believe and is due for a February return.
  7. I may have misspelled his name. He's a sophomore transfer from Bracken County.
  8. Panthers got off to a sluggish start but overcame that and only allowed 13 pts in the first half and 14 in the second. The win was Augusta's 13th straight over the Saints. The Panthers are now 6-6 and are on the road Monday to face the Burgin Bulldogs. Their final game before next Saturday's All A quarterfinal matchup with Nicholas County in Paris. Augusta scoring Shoemaker 21 Laycock 13 Johnson 7 Philpot 6 Cordle 5 Mains 4 Glasser 2
  9. Here's the most incredible story from last night's action. The Polar Bears are just now returning to Brooksville after being stranded on the AA due to ice. And yes, it's 4:30 am. I remember being stuck on a bus on the way to a game in Carroll county for about three hours. This I can't even imagine. Thankfully they made it home safely.
  10. Maybe Bracken County just got tired of losing to Augusta, I dunno. Seriously the games, home and away, are a good crowd, good time and are missed all over the county. But until the powers that be change their stance, we wait for early February and that all important, possibly season changing, draw.
  11. Sounds like the Camels thought this game was won before they got off the bus. Surprises me that a coach Russell team would be undisciplined and overlook anyone. Wouldn't want to be their next opponent. Good win for BC regardless of who came to play, technicals, etc.
  12. Panthers led at the end of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters but were outscored 25-12 in the 4th. Pretty physical game. Shout out to Thomas Mains for his defense on Trent Letcher, gave him fits all night. Unfortunately I don't have Nicholas' scoring. But even though the Panthers did lose I was very encouraged by their effort tonight. Better days are ahead. Shoemaker 16, Cordle 14, Johnson 6, McElfresh 5, Laycock 3, Appelman 2, Mains 1, Reed 1
  13. Scoring for Dayton Hall 11 Brewer 9 Perkins 7 Chinn 5 Simpson 5 Young 3 Jimenez 2 Thomas 2
  14. Good opening night performance for the Panthers. Home opener tomorrow night vs. Robertson County. Shoemaker 27 Philpot 12 Laycock 9 Johnson 6 Mains 4 Cordle 4
  15. For many years Augusta has hung their hat on the luck of the draw. Whether it was in the old 38th (AHS, BC, PC, RC), old 39th ( AHS, FC, MC, RC, SP) or the current lineup. From 1983 to 2005 the draw gave the Panthers favorable matchups every once in awhile but it was not to be. In 2006 the Panthers finally returned to the 10th region tournament and have also done so in 8 of the last 10 seasons. Some of those draws were in our favor while others were not. But thanks to the draw, the opportunity was there and a few times we overcame a "bad draw" and punched our ticket. We knew the recent stretch of success would pass and we would have to rebuild. Despite what may be a down season on the horizon, Augusta still wants a chance at post season glory and the draw gives us the best chance. Please don't assume that because BC took their ball and went home that the fight became a stronger one. It's not a fight, it's a difference of opinion and at the end of the day, it is what's best for the student athletes at Augusta Independent Schools. As for Robin's ego, don't worry, he's just fine.
  16. Augusta does return one starter, Jared Shoemaker, and sophomore big man 6-6 Stephen Cordle. Also Jack Laycock returns and that does it for players with varsity experience. A couple of freshmen, Sam Appelman and Preston Philpot, will help. As far as the rest of the varsity I'm not certain at this time. So no the cupboard is not completely bare but it's going to take a lot of work and hopefully that work is evident by season's end.
  17. I know someone out there has the yearbook and the team rankings. C'mon man, let's get them on here!!
  18. Remember the name Stephen Cordle. The 6-6 sophomore center will see a lot of time this season and continues to improve. He did not play a lot last season but did play very well against CC's Matt Wilson so the potential is definitely there.
  19. Here's a non basketball stat to chew on for this game. Enrollment from grades 9-12 for the two schools. Augusta - 79 Montgomery County - 1600 Montgomery County has more kids in their high school then we have people in our whole town!!! What Augusta lacks in size and depth it makes up with heart and that, is hard to beat.
  20. This is Augusta's fourth ever region win 1950 Carlisle 2014 Robertson County 2016 Scott 2016 Montgomery County Their 24-6 record is the second best in school history. And their 11 game winning streak is the second best in school history. To match the longest, 15, (1966) they just need to win the state tournament, that's all.
  21. As history has shown us, Augusta fans arrive early and in large numbers. Seating will be interesting to say the least.
