10th Region Week 1 Notes

George Rogers Clark put to rest any doubts that they're the class of the 10th; scoring 89, 89 and 95 points in their first three games; the last of which was a 16-point win over #2 Montgomery County.  Four Cardinals are averaging double figures, headed up by Jerone Morton at 29 per game (along with nearly 9 boards); including an eye-popping 37 against the Indians.  It's early, but I don't see anyone else in the 10th that can stack up against them.  Maybe Montgomery in the January 22 rematch.

The 10th Region All-A tournament started in earnest this week.  Bracken County thumped Paris by 22; and let's give a shout-out to Calvary Christian, who pulled off a mild upset over Augusta at the Igloo in Brooksville.  Maybe they're not soccer players playing basketball - maybe they're both.  Next games scheduled are Bishop Brossart - Bracken County and Robertson County - Calvary Christian.

Congratulations to Campbell County head coach Aric Russell on his 400th career win this week.  Also to Jason Hinson on his 200th.  And Scott Code, taking over the reins at Bishop Brossart; notches his first (and second) wins.

Mason County frittered away an 18-0 run to start the game at Bourbon County to ultimately lose by a bucket at Bourbon County, but bounced back with a 2-point win over always-dangerous Scott County two nights later.

Don't get too crazy over the rankings from 6 or 7 through 14 or 15.  One early win here or there isn't going to dramatically affect them this early.  In all likelihood, these teams will trade wins all season long; and it will take a much larger body of work for things to settle in.

See you next week.

Kason Hinson scored his 1,000th point in Augusta’s loss at Calvary Christian and the 10th Region All A Tournament is being played at various sites due to covid-19 restrictions.

About as dominant a first week to the season that you'll find with regard to GRC.

Nice summary, decrepit one.
