  1. Also the Augusta win gave head coach Jason Hinson his 100th career win at Augusta. His record with the Panthers is 100-69. Pretty good for a school that size.
  2. Big night on the road for the Panthers as they lead all the way and crush the Wildcats, 81-52. The win stopped their four game losing streak and improved them to 9-7. Next up, district tournament opponent Mason County at home on Saturday night. Riley Mastin led Augusta with 20 points. Kason Hinson dropped in 18 points along with 14 rebounds and 10 assists. Also in double figures were Conner Snapp with 15 and Chase Archibald with 14.
  3. I was under the impression the games aren’t played until the week of March 15th...
  4. The Panthers got off to a slow start before working back into the game early on and looked good in the first half. But, I hate when there’s a but, they dug a hole in the 3rd quarter they just couldn’t get out of. Kason Hinson had a nice night with 26 points and Riley Mastin added 13. The loss dropped the Panthers to 8-5 and they are back in action tonight vs. Campbell County at Augusta, travel to Bath County on Thursday and back home to face Mason County on Saturday night. **The 39th district tournament draw is Wednesday morning**
  5. Looks like the 9th got the best of the 10th this weekend. Holy Cross over Augusta (96-95) Highlands over Brossart (79-51) Dixie Heights over Bracken (78-43) Beechwood over Campbell (73-55)
  6. That was the only way they could stop the clock. If the delay of game warning isn’t called, the clock runs out. Augusta doesn’t even have to pick the ball up. By the way, I was so impressed with Jacob Meyer. Should be the 9th region’s top player the next two seasons.
  7. What a game this afternoon in the Panthers Den. The Indians pulled out to a 10 point lead at the end of the first quarter, 29-19 but the Panthers came storming back in the second to only trail 49-48 at the half. In the third quarter, the teams went back and forth with numerous lead changes and ties and Augusta forged ahead going into the fourth quarter, 67-66. Late in the game thanks to a technical foul on Indians head coach Grammer, the Panthers found themselves up 90-83 but that lead wouldn’t last long as Holy Cross cut the deficit to 90-89 with 1:58 to go. A couple baskets and free throws later Augusta led 95-91 with :46.3 left. The Indians’ Blake Robinson drained a three with :08 to go to make it 95-94 but they were out of time outs so Robinson grabbed the ball and threw it into the lobby prompting a delay of game call which stopped the clock with 2.1 seconds to go. The Panthers would use their last time out and turn the ball over leaving 1.1 on the clock and giving the Indians one more chance. Brandon McClendon got it into Blake Robinson on the block and he dropped it in for the win. Holy Cross improved to 10-5 and Augusta with their second straight loss fell to 8-5. Cov. Holy Cross (96) Meyer 41, Hicks 11, McClendon 17, Robinson 8, Ward 6, D. Arlinghaus 2, Z. Arlinghaus 11 Augusta (95) Ka. Hinson 31, Ky. Hinson 6, Mastin 32, Snapp 12, Archibald 12, Kelsch 2
  8. Not your typical Augusta game tonight. Didn’t shoot well from the field, got out rebounded, and only attempted 11 free throws, hitting 8. Riley Mastin led the Panthers with 22 points in a strong effort. Augusta is now 8-4. Got to put this one in the rear view mirror as Cov. Holy Cross comes to town tomorrow at 2:45. The Indians come into the game having lost to Covington Catholic tonight, 78-44. Next week for Augusta Mon 2-22 @ Newport Central Catholic Tues 2-23 vs. Campbell County Thurs 2-25 @ Bath County Sat 2-7 vs. Mason County
  9. Little behind here but anyway, the Panthers left the door open for the Raiders to get themselves back in this game in a hurry and they did just that. After falling behind five points in a hurry in the overtime period Augusta did claw back in it and take the lead but it just wasn’t meant to be. On the positive side, Kason Hinson pushed his scoring average over 20 ppg with his career high 37 points and Riley Mastin dropped in 25 (career high?) and 13 rebounds. And in the victory, Ryle head coach Keaton Belcher picked up his 100th career win. Augusta honored head coach Jason Hinson with a plaque before the game for his 200th career win that came in Augusta’s season opener vs. Bracken County.
  10. Panthers jump out early and roll to their 5th straight win. Kason Hinson paced the Panthers with 23 points and was joined in double figures by his brother Kylan with 11. Augusta will spend the next two days prepping for a 9th region weekend with Ryle (7:30) on Friday and Cooper (6:30) on Saturday. Both games played in the Panther’s Den.
  11. The disadvantage of the late start could rear it's ugly head if any of those schools have to deal with cancellations. That will make an already short season that much shorter and not a lot of time to reschedule and get those games in. I’m hearing that schools playing now are considering playing no games the week before districts start to prevent any more cancellations. That could also play into the Jefferson County schools season being even shorter. Let us all do our part to keep the kids, coaches, staffs, referees, and fans as safe as we can and get through this challenging season together!!
  12. Final from Flemingsburg. Augusta improves to 6-2 with the road win. The visiting Panthers never trailed in the game. They’ll play again on Tuesday night in Paris. Fleming County falls to 2-4 and travels to Lewis County Tuesday as well. Augusta (84) Ka. Hinson 23, Ky. Hinson 18, Mastin 14, Snapp 13, Archibald 10, Kelsch 4, Brooks 2 Fleming County (78) Argo 20, Jolly 17, Hickerson 14, Lutz 9, Hargett 9, Moore 7
  13. Yes. That’s typically the norm. Augusta has had success lately in this rivalry going 17-5 since the 2010-11 season including two district championship wins.
  14. Slow start to this one. BC led 13-7 after 1. Panthers hold Polar Bears to 3 in the 2nd quarter and take a 20-16 lead at the break. Blake Reed scored his first points of the night 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter and catches fire to bring BC back from as many as 13 points down but Kason Hinson dropped 12 of his 24 in the 4th quarter including the game winning free throws with 2.8 seconds to go. Reed’s heave at the buzzer was short to give Augusta the win. The Panthers are now 5-2 and play at Fleming County on Saturday. Bracken County falls to 2-7 and travel to Pendleton County tomorrow night. Augusta (58) Ka. Hinson 24, Ky. Hinson 16, Snapp 14, Archibald 4 Bracken County (57) B. Reed 25, N. Jefferson 14, C. Reed 8, Reynolds 7, Commodore 2, Schultz 1
  15. Nice win for Augusta tonight in the Panthers Den. The Hinson brothers combined for 43 points, 26 for Kason and 17 for Kylan. Riley Mastin and Conner Snapp chipped in with 10 apiece. The 4-2 Panthers were scheduled to face Bracken County on Friday but they are under quarantine so the next game will be next Tuesday at home vs. Nicholas County.
  16. Reminds of my jr high coaching days when the kids would come running up to let you know that so n so needs to start because they are hitting EVERYTHING in warmups.
  17. Panthers improve to 3-2 with win over the Saints. Kason Hinson led the Panthers with 13 points and was joined in double figures by Kylan Hinson, Chase Archibald, and Conner Snapp with 11 each and Will Kelsch added 10. Panthers host the Russell Red Devils tomorrow night, 6/7:30.
  18. Panthers run into a buzz saw tonight. Royals pretty much controlled this one from the start. Augusta looks to rebound from their 2nd loss with a road game at St. Patrick on Tuesday night. It will be a 6:30 start as the Saints do not have a junior varsity. Mason County hosts Paris the same night.
  19. Congratulations to Coach Kelsch and the Black Devils!! Rep the 10th well at state...next month!!
  20. To be clear, Brossart is the site and the opponent. Good luck Lady Panthers!!!
  21. Final from Robertson County. Lady Panthers advance to the All A final at Bishop Brossart on Thursday night.
  22. Panthers pull away in the 3rd quarter. Now 2–1 on the season and headed to Mason County on Saturday night. Friday’s game with Bath County is cancelled/postponed. Kason Hinson led the Panthers with 18 points. Joining him in double figures were Riley Mastin with 15 and Chase Archibald with 12.
