  1. Baseball is America’s past time but does not get the love or respect the other two major sports (basketball and football) get at the high school level. Why do I say this.....? Football's season rarely has to worry about weather issues preventing them from practicing, or playing games (yeah I know the heat index or a lighting storm). For the most part you can practice Football in outside in pretty much all types of weather and temperatures (to a degree). Football gets their guys together in the spring for a week to go over things, they have passing leagues in the summer and the get to practice (doubles) prior to the start of school year when students have more time to devote to the sport. Basketball never has to worry about weather as they are always going to be able to practice inside the comfort of their gym. Basketball gets their guys together in the summer for "Open Gyms". Also, for whatever reasons, many Football and Basketball coach’s, (unlikely to admit publically) tend to steer their players from playing baseball because they are aware of the potential time their players will be away from their sport in the summer. Truly a shame....lot a great 3 sport athletes and Beechwood and Cov.Cath and seem to do very well. Baseball starts practice in the worst part of the year (Feb. 15th) and for a sport a who needs room (open space) to really evaluate and work on the things, it gets handicapped by the bad weather and finding time to get into the gym (when the Hoops team is not using it) just to have a practice. Not to mention some schools won't allow their teams to hit or throw halls in the gym....so really what can they do? And now with the State talking about moving the CATS test back this will affect the district and regional tournaments without a doubt. Baseball is still strong, but it does need help.
  2. Does he also play CF on the Mason Co. baseball team?
  3. Great post..... I agree with all of your points.....it is just hard to read when so-called CAMEL supporters rip the program, especially when they are getting thier information second and third hand. Look forward to what the CAMELS (Freshman, JV, Varsity) teams can accomplish this season.... Varsity has to step up as SCOTT and BROSSART, no matter what the people posting write, have solid teams, and will come ready to play.
  4. I did read it and you where wrong as the ball never touched the batter....now that you are restating what others have said, what truly happened, (catcher hit the batter, while in the box....not the batter moved to block the catcher) you now have the FACTS straight.
  5. You have stated YOU don’t go to games, yet you rely on others for your information. Seems really weak to me that you piggyback on others and that is what you basis your opinions with. As I said in the previous post…..didn’t want to harm Coach Mohr, however YOU were the one doing the comparisons….having played both football and baseball for Coach Mohr I can tell you without hesitation, liked him as a person, but in baseball he was more of a “manager”, simply relying on the players to already have the skills they need to play Varsity Baseball once they got to him…thus, his practices both before the season and during the season consisted of BP and Infield and that was it. What the current program does now blows that away….obviously during the season there is not much time but still more is done. I guess if we utilize Coach Mohr’s theories the players coming in must not be getting the instruction they once did prior to getting into High School. Playing in the 9th Region, winning a Regional Title and 3 District Titles during my time within the baseball program at CCHS I take great pride of where it has been and where it is currently at.
  6. Actually they (Brossart players) left in the middle of the game pretty much after the game had been decided and CAMLES had removed some of their starters as well.
  7. Get your facts straight.....the call had nothing to do with the ball hitting the runner....the call was interference on the batter, if i remember correctly has the right to be in the batters box.....kind of funny how the umpire after the game apoligized that he screwed it up, but COWBOY was correct CAMELS did not deserve to win with the effort they gave.....Coaches warned them about a let down going into that game and that is what happened.....pretty sure the learned from the experience.
  8. Being a part of the program in the past as you state, “the way it used to be”, and being apart of one of the three regional titles in the 80’s as well as being on a Top 15 Team that was ranked in the top 15 in the state, I know for a fact Campbell Co. won on talent and to the credit of the players despite the coaching. No harm meant to Coach Mohr, but what the current staff does with the players is 100 times more than what was done in that time frame. This statement has been verified by many former players who have actually come and witnessed some the of practices. As for the Brossart JV game last year…..you need to get your facts straight before you comment The player was benched because, the player, chose to go to Open Gym and shoot hoops instead of being up at the field for BP and infield prior to the Brossart JV Game. The Varsity Head Coach had no say in that call what so ever. This did create a stir that game and it didn’t help matters to add to an all already shortened team (JV players were going with Varsity over the weekend for a tournament) with players playing out of positions and very limited pitching. With that said, CAMELS did lose the game 3-4, give credit for Brossart for playing well, and you are right CAMLES did not play well (not to mention the horrible call the umpire made to end the game at home plate). No doubt the CAMLES players looked passed BROSSART, it happens they are kids, especially when the previous meeting the CAMLES thumped them Brossart 17-6. Winning 20 games last year and getting to the JV Regional Semi-Finals I guess isn’t good enough for “OLDTEACHER”. Now the other point you made, which again was inaccurate, the reason the JV player was kicked off the team, was due to the fact the player, again chose, to not abide by team rules, was warned multiple times for these infractions by the Varsity Coach, and defiantly disputed the rules with the Varsity Coach, and was then kicked off. OLDTEACHER, seriously you sound like either a disgruntle former player or a parent of kid that didn’t make the team….either way please, get your FACT straights before you start submitting information on this site as it is contributor like yourself which in the long run will be the downfall of what is a terrific avenue to enlighten, communicate, and share information on High School Athletics.
  9. Agree with your assessment on RYLE, CCH, SCOTT also has a couple of nice arms..... Both RYLE and CCH had very good JV arms last year....that is always nice to have coming up for a program. As for Campbell Co. -- Woodruff is the ACE and should be one of the best pitchers in the 10th and in NKY. Woody had great year last year, wore down a bit toward the end of the season, but is much stronger and ready to assume the role as the leader of the staff since Hurd graduated.....look for Hinkle, Dryer and Coffman to also have very good years for the Camels. Depending on Gray's shoulder CAMELS could have one of the best closer in the 10th as well.
  10. Should be a good game....both teams are young and both feature talented "Big Men".....I would think Petey and Darnell will counter each other..... Key for Camels will be guarding Housley.... Key for the Wildcats will be staying out of foul trouble as they are not very deep....
  11. Absolutely agree MASON Co. head and shoulders above everyone else. It will either take a team to go and play mistake free all night while MASON has an off night (can happen i.e. BRACKEN vs. BROSSART district a few years back) or MASON Co runs into some injuries to key players (which I don't want to see happen) for them to lose. Loved watching lofton play against the CAMELS and MUSTANGS and same goes for MILLER. Having any team from the 10th cut the nets down at STATE would be welcomed. Unless something has changed wouldn't look for VERST to be back. PARKS suspension should be up soon. Having another true PG will give them some much needed depth at that position. Just hope in any scenario if and when one or both comeback it doesn’t hurt the current team chemistry.
  12. Stop using the SMALL SCHOOL crutch....In NKY it just doesn't have any cred......private vs public is more of an issue. It is a great thing to have because when you win it is a great triumph as a "David vs Goliath" scenario, but when you lose it is always, well we are, "a small fish in a big bond" analogy. BROSSART actively goes and recruits their kids from St. Joe's, St. Mary's and St. Peter & Paul and I have no problem with that. So they have their resources for talent so stop giving everyone the, "We are just a small town school.....woe as me argument". As with powerhouse programs the main thing that brings in the good players is winning...i.e. Highlands, Beechwood, NCC, and CovCath. Your statement "They beat a small local school in a total rebuilding mode--Nothing more, nothing less".....doesn’t do much for your program. Here I thought you guys (BROSSAR) were one of the top HOOPS programs in NKY (at any size)......I guess I was wrong. Down or up either way.....CAMELS had the better team from top to bottom, from start to finish. I do commend you for stating that in your post, however, you need to get away from that SMALL SCHOOL stuff as it just doesn't fly.
  13. Great atmosphere at CCMS tonight..... Ryan, Matt and Ben stepped up big while Petey was out of the game with the nose issue. Nerl solid offensive performance tonight and he had some huge blocks down the stretch....CAMELS "D" thus far is for real. Tonight there was just too much CAMEL offense and the MUSTANGS, at least at this point in the season, don’t have the offense to play comeback. MUSTANGS play strong "D"....#10 for the MUSTANGS played great "D" all night.....really somewhat surprised to see CAMELS win big especially with their big guy being out most of the game. Just shows how well they are playing as a team. Now, while I know it is a great win for them they still had a lot of mistakes (too many unforced errors) some were MUSTANGS "D" but majority was CAMELS doing it to themselves. With a very young team(s) look forward to both the CAMELS and MUSTANGS getting better as the season progresses. Would love to see CAMELS -vs- MUSTANGS playing in the District Finals. Congrats to the CAMELS team for a breaking the streak and taking care of business tonight.....keep improving boys!
  14. Down by 3 and doesn't kick the FG.....is that correct? SCORE/TIME anyone?
  15. Anyone have a Score & Time update.....please.
  16. Anyone have any player stats? Know the Silver Grove is down but still glad to see Camels win a game they should win. Also, glad to read that former "Grover" Corey Pelle is doing so well at the next level....best wishes to him. Hope the game on Friday is a good one. I know the hype is coming. I know Brossart lost a lot; however, the Camels are really young, as are the Mustangs. With Petey getting injured last year and the loss of Verst and Parks (at this point) the Camels are starting a group of young guys with not much experience except for Nerl....which in my opinion is good. Ben and Matt are very coach able players and will give everything they have at all times. Andy and Ryan off the bench give them some experience and toughness they will need. Wasn’t able to see them tonight but Friday you could certainly see a difference especially on the defensive aspect of game...also they seemed to play well together. Good start to a long season.....keep improving.
  17. I really like the Camels "D".....I know Boone has a great running game (like always), however, in the long run I am more concerned about the Camels "D" facing a good passing team. As I stated before the season started the "D" will carry the Camels (especailly early) this season. Having seen the Camels play twice this year, the Offense still needs much work and more experience. Should be a very close game.....Boone gets the edge at home, Boone by 2pts. Hope I am wrong and the CAMELS pull it off.....would be a great early season win for them to build on.
  18. Why are you all going back in forth about a RULE....it is what it is, let it go. PC did the best they could, but with or without that call they are no match for CC. Camels should take note of the PC game and remember not to overlook anyone regardless of what they read on BGP....you still have to play the game....just ask Michigan! As for PC why do they not have more than 19 kids out??? Give tons of props to those playing.....I would think the coaching staff needs to be doing more regarding selling the program and getting kids to come out.
  19. It also was ugly as RYLE played what many would consider to be a dirty game.....at least 3 unsportsmanlike flags (should have been more) thrown on them in the first half alone. Taunting and late hits seemed to be RYLE's m.o.!!! Really like how the RYLE coaches showed class and called two time outs with no more than 45 seconds left in the first half just so they could get another score, after already being up by 4 TD's. Great for RYLE's ego I guess. No doubt RYLE had the better team on the field in all aspects vs Newport....but it was also very evident that RYLE was "OUT CLASSED" in all aspects vs Newport. RYLE is a good team, however karma is a strong thing.....I'm sure Boone and Campbell will be ready for them.
  20. I knew as soon as BBHS started a football program this would happen.....no one knows what would have happened. Let it go!!! Just like when BBHS had the great group in Basketball and lost to Bracken Co., or win they had the group that was supposed to win the 10th Region in baseball (didn't make it out of the district, two years in a row)....you just never knew, so don't speculate on it, especially since it is in the past and no matter what you can't change it. BBHS has the athletes to do it now.....and I truly feel in a year or two they'll be where they need to be.....it takes time. For years they have lost kids from the feeder schools to schools with Football programs, such as, NCC, CC, Highlands, CovCath....once those numbers start to decrease is when you'll really see a difference, and I am sure it will take time, but it will happen eventually. But please stop living in the past and stop posting the "What if's" and "It could have been's". It didn't happen, end of story!! Cheer on the kids who are playing NOW.....Nice 1st varsity game performance MUSTANGS....good luck the rest of the year!
  21. Anyone attend the CAMELS scrimmages on Friday night? I heard they ended up going went 1&1 on the night…..Kidwell (QB) only played the 1st game as he had to get some stitches on his forehead. Any comments on how the CAMELS and Bellevue looked would be appreciated.
  22. Both team made their share of early season mistakes (fumbles, int’s, offsides, etc..). However, for a team of primarily two-way players Newport definitely won and seemed to be the better team tonight. Newport stepped up to the challenge of playing a bigger school and showed they will definitely be a team gunning for a 2A district championship. Wilfong and Oden will make for a great 1-2 running attack punch. The "D" anchored by #22 (Herald) and #50 (Dieters) should be the teams strong point. Wildcats must get rid of the inner-team turmoil which was seen on several occasions with guys arguing with each other on the field…..if they can over come that, they just might be in for another 2005 type of season.
  23. After watching RYLE vs Holmes scrimmage.....RYLE no where near the team they were last year. Bluebirds should handle the Raiders rather easily.
