Just because the team who won says the officiating was terrible does not mean that it was. Feel free to register to the KHSAA and come on out!! I say that to anyone who talks about the quality of officiating. Be PRO-ACTIVE!! If you feel the quality has gone down, well come on out and do something about it. Go to KHSAA.org and look under official's division and it will tell ya all you need to know to get started. To everyone else who has given compliments, THANKS!!! They are few and far between but they are nice when they do come. Thank you. I know everyone in the NEKFOA will continue to work hard , progress forward, and continue to provide officiating to the boys and girls in our region.

I just returned from the game as well and I thought the officials were consistent all night. They called the exact same fouls at both ends of the court. They're were alot of fouls but they were all consistent IMO. Whether you agree with the way the officials are calling a game or not,being consistent is very important IMO. They did clamp down on the fouls but all 3 called the same way on both ends of the court. JMO!!

WOW!!!! I guess that tough schedule paid off in the long run. I thought Belfry would win this game but I had doubts because of Central's tough schedule and Belfry's untested schedule. I wonder if Belfry was overconfident? I know their fans were. Congrats to Central on winning the 3A state title!!

Well said!! I hope one day soon that I'll be able to walk out on the field at Papa John's. It's a great honor and P.D. and Rusty deserve it.

Just wanted to say Congrats to 2 local officails who have been selected to a state championship game. P.D. Harris and Rusty Mitchell have earned the honor this year. Both work very hard year-round so that they can serve the kids on Friday nights. P.D. is the president of our local association and I can't say enough about what he has done for local officiating. P.D. is very dedicated to the future of officiating. He spends countless hours of his time to better not only himself but every member of our association. Rusty also spends countless selfless hours of his time for the betterment of our association. Nobody works harder or hustles more than Rusty on the field and he is ALWAYS in position to make the call. We are very lucky to have these 2 officials in our area and I just want to wish them the very best of luck!!!

Those were the days!!! That was an incredible team and I have tons of fond memories from watching them. It seems like it was yesterday!! Everyone of them turned out to be great players for their respective teams. That's a tribute to their coach Brian LeMaster. If I was an AD and looking to hire a HC, my search would end with Brian LeMaster. Some school is going to be very happy if they ever decide to hire him as a HC. He's a future coaching star!!

Players who are "supposed" to be at Russell? What in the world does that mean? Like stated earlier, every team in the region over the past few years have had kids who transferred in. They aren't breaking any rules, so what's the problem? Let me ask you this, if a kid attends his first day of school in 1st grade at a particular school does that mean he or she is "supposed" to be at that school throughout his primary and secondary years?

She injured her pinky finger on her shooting hand in practice the other day. She has a displaced fracture of the pinky finger. She will see a specialist on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury and how long she will be sidelined. Ali is a very tough girl with an incredible work ethic. I'm sure she will do whatever it takes to get back to her team in the shortest amount of time.

Not only is it bush for the PA man to cheerlead but it's also not allowed. The KHSAA has addressed this issue in the past couple of years and determined that it is not allowed. But the only way for it to stop is with the Belfry administration or the KHSAA putting a stop to it. Belfry is too classy of a program with some really great fans to have their reputation tarnished by a overzealous PA announcer.

This is the matchup that I predicted!! Central's tough schedule is paying off in the playoffs. Did these teams play any common opponents besides Johnson Central? I don't hold much merit to the outcomes of common opponent games, especially in a state championship game, but I was just wondering. I have seen Belfry play a couple times this year and I know how good they are but I haven't seen Central but from what I hear they may just be the only team in 3A who can play with the Pirates. I don't know enough about Central to make a informative prediction but I'm going to say Belfry wins the title. I have seen Belfry and they are LOADED, so I'm picking them.

The bigger area.....maybe. But who has the most people? Who has more paying customers? That would be Ashland. That's like saying that Alaska should get more national coverage because it's the biggest state. It's all about population and interest. The ADI is an Ashland newspaper!!! It only makes since that Ashland teams get a bit more coverage. There is always someone who is not happy and someone always gets jealous but it's unrealistic to think that the ADI can cover every game in the area. It's just unrealistic! With that said, I think the ADI does a great job of covering the other schools in the area. I think that they did an excellant job covering Russell's state championship and runner-up finish the past couple years. My brother played on those teams and I was very pleased with the plubicity that he and the Devils recieved from the ADI. I also thought they covered Elliott well last year and I don't even know if the ADI is issued in Elliott .

What other games were going on that night?

I've seen both of these teams play and I'm giving the edge to Belfry. I was impressed with Breathitt last night but I think going down to Belfry and beating a very tough team is too tall a task for them. Belfry can defend the pass better than Russell and that's a key to stopping Breathitt. Belfry can also get to the QB and that will be big next week. I think the Pirates are on their way to the state title. Breathitt is another bump in the road. Belfry is THAT GOOD. (And that's coming from a Russell fan)

I second that!! As an assistant, I always knew he would be a HC oneday and I was so glad when I heard he had finally gotten his shot at Boyd County, although it was really weird seeing him in Lion Red. LOL!!! I have no doubt in my mind that he will turn Boyd County football program into a winning tradition.

I was truely impressed, but not surprized, with Boyd County HC Lee Evans' remarks following his team's tough loss last Friday night. He very well could have went a totally different direction with his comments and everyone would have understood his complaint but instead he told the truth. I really admire that. Many coaches would have argued that no time remained on the clock whether they knew there was time left or not. Some would have fussed and cussed about the situation even if deep down they knew that there was time remaining on that clock. Coach Evans showed class and dignity with his actions and remarks following the game Friday. He's a great coach and I wish nothing but the best of luck in the future,

Ali Wilcox of Ashland may be the best shooter in the region. She will continue to improve this year as she does every year and will be a top scorer in the region this year and next.
