WOW!!! I'm shocked by this. I would figure the exact opposite with all of the nice things I've heard about the boys' personalities and the way the community has embraced them. You would think that things would be dandy after the way they played at Rupp and the expectations they have of each other. There would have to be some of the "ME" in "TEAM" if this is true. They have everything going for them, I wonder what the problem could be. This is coming from someone who isn't close with the EC community, so if this is a dumb question....go easy on me cause I don't have a clue as to what the problem could be.

I hear alot of fans, and coaches as well, holler about the foul count. To me, the foul count means little and just because the fouls are 8 to 1 or 10 to 3 does not mean that the official is bias at all! I'm not going to call a phantom foul just to even the count up. As an official, I call the game as I see it and I try more than anything to be consistent at both ends of the court. I think that is one of the most important qualities about being a basketball official, consistency. I would tell a coach or player that he/she will know how this game is going to be called in the first 2 mins of the game. It's up to the players and coaches to adjust to the officiating. Some officials will let them play, some will call it tight, some will call the handcheck, some will not and so on and so on. In a perfect world we would like every single official to call the exact same way every game but that's not realistic. Some coaches and players adjust and some do not and sometimes that leads to uneven foul counts. Or it could just be that one team is much more aggressive than the other or one team needs to foul to stay in the game or ect. There are many reasons for the foul count to be different other than the official is bias toward one team or the other. Fans put too much emphasis on the foul count and the first thing they think when it's different is....."we're being cheated".

Just a scrimmage though. I would like to see who they would do against them now at Mason. I would say the outcome would be similiar to last night's game against Elliott. Mason is playing some pretty good basketball right now and Miller is just a beast.

They got beat by 29 by the #1 team in the state. I don't think anyone else in this region would have done any better than that at Mason County. Elliott is still the best team in the region, IMO. One loss in the region doesn't take them out of that #1 stop for me and definately not the loss last night at Mason. Rose Hill can beat Elliott obviously but I still think Elliott is a better team. Also, East is too far down. IMO, it should be 1. Elliott 2. Rose Hill 3. East And I think that East matches up with Rose Hill really well and that should the Royals second chance points down. I think that could be huge in a regional tourney game. The supporting cast of Rose Hill is their ticket to Rupp. I believe you always have a chance with 2 players like Euton and Jackson but they will need to step it up for them to get tp Rupp. It should be fun!!!

Did you forget that we are in EKY? LOL!! Not too many deserving players are look at by D-1 schools around here. It's a shame. I believe Tyler could play D-1 ball somewhere. I think a Morehead or EKU would have been a good fit for him. Also, Congrats to Toby and Adam on getting a chance to continue playing on the the next level. Would have liked to seen KCU continue getting local talent with their big year coming up. Congrats to all 3!!!!

I'll agree with you there. I believe it's ok for a fan to disagree with a call and if that's all you said then in no way do I feel you should have been ejected for that. I think that some officials take less and less the lower the level. The lower the level of basketball they officiate, the less they take from coaches and fans. I also agree with that if an officials knows where the abuse is coming from and fails to do anything about it then he/she shouldn't complain about it. They do have the authority to eject them and should if it gets bad enough. Good point!

Great point!! It's to difficult for the official to "catch" the ones making the really bad comments, especially in a crowded gym. They can't officiate the game will they were looking in the stands every time something bad was said. And if the officials can not stop it then game management is the next in line to "police" the really bad behavior. Until they start "policing" the bad behavior it will just continue.

Unfortunately I see these signs at many school gyms. It's a shame.

That's why there is a shortage of officials everywhere. Then when we do recruit new officials, they are ran off because of crazy fans. Officials quitting ....That's not the answer to the problem. The answer is for the fans to calm down. Like I said, it's ok to verbally disagree with a call but don't let it get out of hand and lead to abusing the stripes. Veteran officials were once new officials and if we keep losing new officials because of fans then the officiating on the court is going to suffer MAJORLY!! I have seen some really good young officials quit because of fans and that's the future of officiating gone. There won't be many officials, and even less quality officials, left if this type of behavior continues. Are you saying that it's the fans job to let the official know if he/she can officiate? I don't think I'm following what you're saying. The associations have evaluators who come and evaluate the officials to let them know what they are doing right and wrong. The 16th Regions has 2 NCAA officials who evaluate them and they know exactly what they're doing.

That is really easier said than done, especially in a crowded gym and the comments are coming from somewhere other than the front row. An official cannot and should not turn around during the action to see who makde the comment. That's just unrealistic. I believe that a person who pays admission has the right to disagree with a call if he/she wants but that doesn't mean verbally abusing them. As an official, I'm fine with a fan voicing his/her disagreement with a call. What I'm talking about is the vulger abmoxious threatening cursing comments made by some fans who think they know everything about the rules and officiating. The comments that would either start a fight or get someone taken to jail if said in the real world. Half of the time they are the most clueless person in the gym and most of those comments are said while the action in taking place. It's almost impossible to narrow the voice down in a crowded gym to just 1 or 2 people and if it's a group of them that makes it even harder to determine the guilty party. So to say that it's the official's fault for taking it is just crazy. It's the idiot's fault for coming to a sporting event with kids and acting like a verbal lunatic.

First off, I want to say that I am just ranting here. This is not pointed to anyone in particular and I just want to get some things off my chest that have been bothering me lately. Ok, with that said...... I would love to know what makes people think that they can talk to officials the way that some fans do. Some people would be arrested for some of the things they say to officials. I don't understand why they think they can say some of the things being said to officials nowadays. Just because a guy/girl puts on a striped shirt and calls a game is not an invitation to verbally abuse them. Yes, I said verbally abuse!! And sometimes it is verbal abuse. Now, I'm not talking about disputing a call or even getting on an official for something. I'm talking about the fan who sits in the stands screaming the most god awlful stuff at the official during the entire game. It's like they believe it's their job to scream at the officials. I feel like some fans take the whole day's frustrations out at the officials because they know they can get away with it. I honestly believe that. Would someone talk to you like that on the street? Would you allow them to talk to you like that? I doubt it very seriously if most would allow someone to talk to them like that in their "normal" lives. I doubt someone would have the audacity to talk to someone that way because there would be consequences in the real world. Either they would be put in jail or someone would just sockem' a good one in the nose. So what makes these fans think that it's ok to talk to officials the way they do? And usually it's the person who knows the least about the rules that holler the loudest. I've seen many 60-70 yr old women leading the charge when they are absolutely clueless. It's like a recreation sport now....official bashing!!! It starts at the lowest level and never ends. I just wish people would understand that there is a HUMAN BEING behind those stripes. Just because you pay admission does not mean that you can verbally abuse the official. I think that there are many factors why we tend to see more and more of these types of fanatics but it's a shame that we've gotten to this level of unsportmanship in some fans. I just don't understand.

But on the flip side, maybe they should have been T'd up all year for those actions but because the coach knows the officials and he/she thinks that they can get away with a little bit more with someone they know and are familiar with and they don't get the "T" when in normal circumstances they would have beed assessed.

Get off your can and do something about it if you don't think the officials are up to par in the 16th. Get pro-active!! Do somethig about it!! Come on out and put the stripes on for a bit and teach them how to do things right.

Court awareness, definately but I don't know too many players who know the answers to these questions asked in this thread. Now, don't get me wrong cause I think it's fun to do these little questionairres and I know that's what the intentions are, fun. I personally enjoy these kinds of things on Preps but I don't really think that these are things that are too important to players.

Well, that's basis basketball. I thought that was already understood. I obviously know that, if you don't then you don't know anything about basketball. If I remember correctly he didn't state anything about a pass or shot but if that's what he was implying then my apologies, he is correct. That's what I stated earlier, this is such elementary basketball that I think we are all trying to imply the same thing with different wording and confusing one another. I know that I was confused as to what people were trying to point out. As worded it is true ....BUT there is more to the rule too. I believe you all are trying to say that the actual violation does not occur until the pivot returns to the ground if the player does not pass or shoot. I thinks that's what your saying and that IS true. I'll say this, a player who establishes a pivot foot (by let's say pivoting on that foot) may not lift his pivot foot unless he/she starts his dribble OR rises for a pass or shot. If he/she returns to the floor with the ball, a violation has occurred.

Oh, OK!! I see now. You all were talking about a pass/shot after the pivot lifted. See, I knew I was missing something because this argument was elementary basketball 101. I thought that we were both correct if I could just figure out what everyone meant.

No, he is correct. Once the pivot foot has been established, by let's say a player pivoting on that foot, then he/she resets both feet(the pivot foot doesn't change) he CANNOT lift that pivot foot unless he starts his/her dribble. I think that is what he was talking about. I think we all might be a bit confused as to what the other is trying to say on this topic, I know I am.

No, it is not incorrect. Maybe I misunderstood what you are talking about but the facts that I stated come directly from the rulebook. Want a copy?

Well, that would be a travel because you're changing your pivot foot then unless you start a dribble.

Now just think about that for a minute. You can't lift your pivot? Check Rule 4 in the NFHS rulebook, it's specifically states that you can LIFT your pivot foot but the ball must be released before the player returns to the floor.
