  1. Not much to report. All they did was some station drills and Coach Davis went over his offense. They did no full court scrimmaging. So no one really had a chance to show anything. No Miller or Hopson. Both out of town and playing in all star events. Hopson was told he's on the team. From what I saw the talent level is way down again overall in Ky. Miller and Hopson will have to carry this team vs Indiana.
  2. Maybe coaches that are members should only be able to nominate players from their team, but not vote on them. The way it is now you have to trust the ethics of coaches. I believe most coaches do the right thing and vote for the player who they think is the best. Remembering that a coach's opinion will obviously be different than a fan of a player from a certain team. I have no problem with not being able to win the award if coaches are not paying members in the KABC. The KABC is working hard to improve the game and help out coaches and players so schools should be paying members.
  3. I loved Saturday morning wrestling. Wrestling on Tuesday nights at the Louisville Gardens was awesome. My favorite match was Bill Dundee and Rocky "Soul Man" Johnson vs Tommy "Wildfire Rich" and Gorgeous George for the tag team titles. Wrestling wont be the same without the Nature Boy! My kids make fun of me for being a Flair fan.
  4. Is UHA staff paid members of the KABC? If not they should be. Annual dues are only $15. In the past, players could not be voted for if their Coach was not a member of the KABC.
  5. I thought Dorsey should have gotten two "T's". After his breakaway slam he turned and intentionally lowered his shoulder into the Kansas player and screamed at him. Then after the alley oop from Rose he grabs the ball, holds it and points his finger in the sky. I thought both incidences were too much celebration and taunting. In consistent officiating. UofL's Knowles got one for taunting a player.
  6. Kansas goes on a 18-0 run and Roy waits for the TV timeout. Wow 40-12 to start the game.
  7. What about Fraley from Rose Hill? Does he have a chance?
  8. If Self takes the OSU Job would Billy G. be interested in Kansas? I cant believe where the Ky coaching job is right now. Minnesota comes and gets Tubby and now OSU thinks they can get Gillespie.
  9. I used to agree with that and some of the issues you bring up are a problem. There are some shady characters. However if parents do their homework there are some legitimate programs out there right now that do a good job. Teams are more organized and good fundamentals are being taught. A young kid will benefit more on an AAU team run right then playing in the back yard. Too many AAU teams play every weekend and a lot of pressure put on these kids by parents and coaches. Thats why parents need to do their homework and ask questions about money, commitments, travel, and amount of games they will play. AAU has made a huge impact on improving the girls. Just look at all the young players starting on varsity teams in Louisville. They all played AAU's
  10. Congrats to Coach Horn If this is true. Hard to turn down the money. Personally I think its a mistake. South Carolina is a death bed for coaches. The last three coaches have ended their careers there: Newton, Fogler, and now Oldham. They all had minimal success before being run off.
  11. Thats my point. They had no play set up. Kansas throughout was box and one and switching screens. They were in regular defense the last play. You run Curry from one side to the other off two screens on the blocks and when they swith out the picker slips the pick and you get the ball down low for a basket or possible foul. Kansas was not going to let Curry get open on a ball screen. They doubled him and left the other kid open and he couldnt hit. Especially that late on the clock. He had to rush it.
  12. All the money college coaches make and they cant come up with a play in the last 15 secs. Ive watched most of the games and the only coach who ran antything late other than high screen and roll was Huggy Bear at WV. He ran a screen across for Alexander on the block. He scored and got fouled. Unfortunately missed the Free throw. Curry wasnt getting open off screens because they were running box and 1 and switching on him. The last sequence was not a Box and 1. Should have ran regular sets or go down low and maybe draw a foul. Did not need a three, just tie it. I thought Davidson was regaining momentum and could have won in OT.
  13. I really look for the talent in Louisville to continue to get better in basketball. The AAU scene is getting bigger and bigger in Louisville. Alot of younger kids in louisville today come up through AAU's(Kimbro, Cosby, Jenkins, Sewell, Stroud) to name a few. I was at MID America Sports complex this weekend and the talent and abilities of younger kids today at the 5th and 6th grade level is amazing. A kid for the KY Gators 6th grade team hit 6/7 3 pointers. Basketball still pays the bills in the state from the Sweet Sixteen. Problem in Baksetball is there is no place for kids to go. We have one Junior college in the whole state. Our NAIA schools want D-1 transfers. The rest of the schools academic reuirements are so tough that a lot of kids cant get in.
  14. Not sure who Louisville got that was better out of high school. They have no senior guards on this years team and Telfair didnt and never was going to come to UL. UL would be hard to stop with Lofton's outside shooting ability. Rick Pitino watched Chris Lofton 3 or 4 straight days his junior year at the KOB and even brought Garcia and Dean to watch him play. He lit the tourney up. He just missed it with this kid.
  15. Central wins the 6th in OT on a put back with 1.4 seconds left by Levaughn Morris 55-54.
  16. This from Rick Bozich article in the Courier this week Who were those 2004 Wildcats? It gets better. USC had the best class in 2004, signing eight five-star players. Or maybe it was five eight-star players. Second was LSU, which delivered a national title. A job well done. Rivals.com should have stopped there. Florida State signed the third-best class in 2004. In the final college game that I covered last season, the Seminoles were beaten in the Music City Bowl by a Kentucky team led by a senior class that ranked 45th in 2004. Surely you remember the names. A three-star linebacker named Wesley Woodyard who delivered a five-star career. A two-star defensive back named Trevard Lindley who proved he could shut down four-star receivers. A two-star receiver named Dicky Lyons Jr. who caught five balls for 78 yards against the Seminoles. A two-star lineman named Jason Leger who made a block or two for a three-star back named Rafael Little. Just as Louisville proved by winning the Orange Bowl the year before, Kentucky showed there is more to the star system than the recruiting services can calculate. 17. Missing players. Freshman Kimbro was dressed but did not play. He has not played the last two games. This was a 9 point game going into the 4th quarter. Manual is not the same when he is not on the floor.
  18. Parents talk to kids from other teams all the time. A lot of kids grow up playing on the same middle school team or AAU team then go to different high schools, especially in Louisville, and parents get to know the kids well. Unless you know what exactly was said its not a problem. Now if the parent of Team A walks up and says you need to leave that school and come to ours and I can set up a meeting with the coach. Then there is a problem.
  19. From what I have heard this was classless on ST.X part. He was forced to resign. I was told that Klein from Waggener is a done deal. Heard rumors that Ballard was chasing Klein because Renner is wanting to get into administration. Desales is winning because they have put a great emphasis on their feeder programs, especially at St. Nicholas formerly Mt. Carmel. Desales has a number of younger AAU programs that are feeding into their school. Desales in my oppinion is the top catholic program in Louisville. Has been ever since Male's Tom Crews went there. Maybe Bergamini didnt work to get the younger kids going in AAU. I dont know. But he is a class guy and a good coach and deserved better than be forced to resign.
  20. The future looks good for Seneca. They start three sophomores and two freshman. Actualy I think Male has overachieved this year. They lost a lot of seniors last year. They are extremely well coached and prepared each game under Tom Crews. If you can neutralize The "beast" Dexter Heyman Male can be beat. The problem is not many teams have someone to match-up with him. Eastern does with Darrin Williams who is big and strong at 6'7. Seneca has a big strong sophomore in Andre Hearn about 6'6. In both losses Heyman had only 9 & 10 points. The 7th is wide open with Male, J-town, Ballard, Manual, & Eastern. Male and J-Town play This Saturday the 26th according to the schedule. However, in the 7th you better be ready each night or you can be beat. Trinity lossed to Cal last night.
  21. Rematch with Ballard. I think Ballard won last week 73-72. I think Eastern is the best in the 7th region right now.
  22. According to the Courier UofL's Clark is out today. No reason given.
  23. Manual can compete with anybody in the state. Jacob Jenkins is one of the top Juniors in the state. Manual is playing without super Soph Aaron Cosby who has decided to transfer. Cosby has already verballed to UMASS. Word around Louisville is that he will end up at J-Town. Good to see the Crimsons playing well without him. Coach Just in his first year there will have them contending for a 7th region title this year.
