  1. Champ has worked hard to rebuild BS. They have a top team coming back. He has started a nice tournament. The KABC needs to step up. Coaches in this state have no representation. Teacher unions will not do anything for coaches. They will protect terrible teachers but not good coaches. Coaches can be fired for no reason at all and there is little they can do about it.The KABC needs to take the lead and start a coaches union in this state. BTW, Louisville Valley fired longtime coach Freddy Copass last week after 37 years of service to that school. The new principal walked in said, "your services is no longer needed here." No thank you for your time or good job, nothing.
  2. In Jefferson Co. the board controls where you can transfer to. Its been a big problem because not enough schools qualified under NCLB to handle all the kids who could possibly transfer. At the middle school level the board created Virtual schools. Kids that choose virtual schools work on computers all day and have no athletics. Most think Virtual schools were created to dissuade parents from transferring their kids. There are Virtual schools currently at Valley and Fairdale High Schools.
  3. Great point. There are like 16 areas that are tested. If your school fails one of those areas then your school is in decline with NCLB. Im not exactly sure but I believe there where only around 5 public schools in Jefferson Co. that passed NCLB.
  4. The courier journal released the teams: Fairdale Male Ballard Trinity Manual Oldham Co. Adair Co. Anderson Co. UHA Rose Hill Christian Madison Central Lex. Henry Clay Jeffersonville, In Hillwood, Nashville Tn. Fayette Co., Ga Holy Cross, New Orleans Notes: Jeffersonville is first indiana team to play 6'9 Brandon Moore from New Orleans has scholarship offers from both UK & UL 6'7 Soph Noel Johnson from Fayette Co. is being recruited by both UK & UL
  5. Coach just will do a great job there. If he can take Iroquois to the state tournament, he can get Manual there. However, the 7th region is one of the toughest in the state to get out of.
  6. Jeff Brooks at 6'8 and a 7'0 wing span would have helped if he had tried out.
  7. Those are designed for all kids not just athletes. No different than seeing Desales or St.X signs on billboards across Louisville promoting their programs.
  8. I would rather see Louisville be patient in the recruiting process. Seems like coach Pitino is to quick to use up scholarships. We are going to have too many 6'3 players. I would rather wait on some of the top players, Evans and Monroe, than use up scholarships. Im not convinced Preston Knowles was worth a scholarship. Im not criticizing Knowles by any means. I just think there are better in next years class.
  9. Please note this is just my opinion on what I observed at the tryouts. My list of surprises by no means indicates that they were not good going in. I just havent heard much about some of them. Disappointments: Josh clemons, Ty Proffitt(bad shooting, looked too slow), Jeff Brooks No Show, Matt Fraliex one of states leading scorers didn't stand out, Andre Miller. Surprises: Tanner Jacobs, Robert Troutman, Greg Rice, Reggie Smith, Davin Anderson, Matt Daniels, and Ryan Whitaker.
  10. There have been 17 state titles decided so far. Private schools have won 9 of the 17. 3/4 football titles, Volleyball, Girls basketball, Swimming, and 3 boys cross country titles. These are team results from KHSAA website. 4A football Trinity 3A football Covington Catholic 1A football newport Central Catholic Girls Basketball Lexinton Christian Volleyball Assumtion 1A Boys Cross Country St. henry 2A Boys Cross Country Owensboro Catholic 3A boys Cross Country Trinity Swimming Boys St. X.
  11. I heard Jeremy Anderson declined because he will be attending summer school at Liberty this summer and would not be able to play.
  12. Davin Anderson from Doss was there and had a good tryout. Jeff Brooks was a no show!
  13. Good discussion. I guess we can agree to disagree. Yes they are adults. But an 18 yr old Young adult going to a major college and she has problems or needs support, the first person she will turn to is her coach. It's that coach's job to provide her with professional help and leadership. What if the relationship goes bad? Will the player still receive the same treatment or will she have to transfer. I guess Im negative but we give people second chances all the time only to committ the same crime over. I just think the UK program can do better.
  14. Your right it is everywhere in womans sports. That doesnt excuse what she did. She crossed professional lines. Who is to say she wouldnt do it again. As the head coach she has a lot of power and influence on her players. An easy way of taking advantage of a young lady. Hiring Chatman would lower the standards to win at all cost for the UK womens program.
  15. I cant believe UK would hire Chatman after what she was fired for. I would not want my daughter playing for her. The womans game has improved tremendously and so has the Coaching. There has to be some high quality coaches who would want the job. They have the same facilities as the Mens team.
  16. Sounds like Barnhart was caught off guard again. Does he not keep up with the hot up incoming coaches. Some may Question Tom Jurich for hiring quick, But he replaced Tom Collen in three days. I know for a fact that he was surprised by Colllen leaving.
  17. What about former WKU coach Sanderford. The WKU womans program has not been the same since he left. Im not sue about Cowles. Im hearing the WKU boosters want her out.
  18. I talked to Zube this weekend at Hoops and he told me he was really liking being the AD there. I would look for former Asst. Dwight Bransford to get the job. He does an excellent job at Shawnee.
  19. I dont think so. Louisville Male went three years ago and I think it cost them over $17,000.
  20. Beaumont was on the Courier-Journals first team allstate team.
  21. According to the Courier Journal updates, coach Gillespie will not take Jordan. He said he doesn't think it is right. He supports Texas A&M and will not take Jordan or any other recruits that have committed there.
  22. Florida had nothing to lose when they hired Donavon. The program was going no where. He had no pressure on him. Look what happened to Matt Daughtery at UNC. He won at ND with no pressure and was run out of town when he went to UNC. Pelphrey would immedately be put under the same pressure. I personally dont think he is ready for it.
  23. Packer pointed this out about every 3.0 seconds. about how tired Oden was. I got so tired of hearing how tired Oden was and Matta needed to give him a rest. If weren't for Oden in the game this one would have gotten ugly.
  24. Mike Campbell of Louisville Butler announced his retirement in the Courier-Journal this morning.
