  1. I was at the full tryout. Only 4 players stood out as locks: Johnson, Green, Snider, and Martin. I liked McGraw from Western not surprised he made it. I thought Montrelle Little of Doss stood out as did the kid from John Hardin Williams. He played with a lot of energy. Honestly after that, all of the players were equal. They made shots and plays but really didnt standout. Had to be a tough decision deciding on the other 8. As far a Hatton, I thought he wasnt there. Someone pointed him out to me. He may be a great player and had a great career but did nothing I saw in the tryout to make the team. Looked like he was just going through the motions. I was sruprised that more Louisville kids didnt make the team. Two teams with Louisville kids won most games(Kelan Martin, Robert Shaw, and Caleb Longacre) (Snider and Cory Thomas team). Their teams stood out to me especially late. Thought Robert Shaw had a really good tryout. I really thought Troy Steward would make the team From Fleming Co. I did not like Tra Edwards from Hoptowns tryout. His coach was on the selection committee. Saw him the night before in Ohio allstar game and was unimpressive. All he did was drive and play out of control. He is talented. Not trying to pick on kids just an honest evaluation from the tryouts. I guess the question is Do one day tryouts do a fair job of picking the teams? 15 of those trying out paritcipated in the KY/Ohio game from Thursday to late Saturday night then had to be in Georgtown on Sunday morning. Several of those kids looked tired. Just an opinion not trying to offend anyone.
  2. I thought this was always the rule. It used to be the redshirt rule. I think it's stupid. Not sure why parents can't do what they think is best for their kids. As long as they are not to old by their senior year. I understand not doing it in high school. A lot of kids mature at different times. No reason why an athlete should graduate when only 17.
  3. Chris is a good selection. He is big and strong and can help inside. Didnt get a lot of promotion playing for Western. He is a good choice and had a good tryout.
  4. Would agree with Steward. Didnt like Ruthstats or Edwards tryouts. Not a criticism of their ability just their tryout. Would have taken Shaw over Ruthstatz and Cory Thomas over Edwards. Edwards coach was on the selection committe. Trent Gilbert didnt tryout. Wasnt impressed with Hatton, Bach, and Harris of PRP so I guess the tryouts hurt some.
  5. INDIANA BOYS ALL-STARS No., Name, School, Ht. 1. Trey Lyles, Tech, 6-10 2. James Blackmon, Jr., Marion, 6-3 3. Grant Evans, Wapahani, 6-3 4. Tayler Persons, Kokomo, 6-2 5. D.J. McCall, Ft. Wayne Concordia, 6-5 6. P.J. Thompson IV, Brebeuf Jesuit, 5-11 7. Bryant McIntosh, Greensburg, 6-4 8. Jeremie Tyler, Tech, 6-3 9. Zach McRoberts, Carmel, 6-6 10. Mack Mercer, Plymouth, 6-9 11. Trevon Bluiett, Park Tudor, 6-6 12. Sean Sellers, Greensburg, 6-6 13. Tyler Wideman, Lake Central, 6-8 Coach: David Benter, Brownstown Central Assistant coaches: James Blackmon Sr., Marion; Clint Swan, Crown Point Every player has signed to play for a D-1 school.
  6. I would have to disagree. I think we will be lucky to keep either game close. Only saw 4 players that stood out in tryouts:Johnson, Snider, Martin, and Green. A lot of good players that really didnt stand out from each other. Tthe committe will have a hard time picking the other 8
  7. I would rate 1. Doss 2. PRP 3. East That will changes as year goes.
  8. For whatever reason has a problem with it. Started when he had Jarred Carter. Carter was playing in the adidas classic and Hicks told him not to play. Hicks was coaching the adidas team. He then said Tubby didnt want him to. Tubby was called by game director Stan Hardin who told him that was Oscar Mayer Bologna. Does Shane Halls coach have ties to Hicks in some way? I heard he did.
  9. Coach Morrow does a great job. Their JV team wasnt that good when I saw them.
  10. Good for UK he is staying but is it good for his draft status. He was projected a top ten pick in most mock drafts last year. He stays and plays behind five freshman and he falls to 15-20 range. I think the longer you stay in college it hurts your status. But if he wants to stay in school good for him. Hope it works out.
  11. People are not getting rich. There has to be people that work. You have to have a governing body. If not the NCAA then who
  12. Trent Gilbert nor Shane Hall tried out. Billy Hicks is known in the coaching world about encouraging kids to not participate in this Game. The four players that stood out as locks: Quin Snider, Kelan Martin, Jordan Green, and Justin Johnson. I would assume Jackson Davis gets a pass due to injury and he showed up. I thought Snider did a good thing showing up even though he didnt have to. I thought Montrell Little of Doss stood out and the Left hander from Graves Co. had a good tryout. Honestly after the first four mentioned they all looked about the same. Had good moments but nothing spectacular.
  13. You keep saying NCAA is getting rich. Who? Is it indviduals, conferences, presidents, coaches. Doesnt the money made go back to conferences? If so and they had no limitation from the NCAA big schools would be out of control. There is a reason for the NCAA.
  14. So what does the NCAA do with all this money? I see no reason to pay student athletes. I would agree to some if the NCAA distributed money even to all schools. Conferences like SEC and ACC would be up in arms. If they dont want to stay they leave. A risk they take. So by putting in Cals suggestions this will give Anthoney Davis and Julius Randle the incentive to stay in school? To me the baseball is rule is the best. Go straight out of high school or you have to stay 3 years. Would give the pros enough time to evaluate a kid and then if he has 3 years of school and close to graduating that would be an incentive to stay in school. All Cals suggestion offer is it makes it better for him to recurit one and dones. He is a pretty shrewed dude. Would benefit his system even more.
  15. So we have to provide them an incentive to get an education and degree now. Those students who dont graduate probably lose their scholarship due to poor academic standings. I would have no problem with those students having to pay a percentage of it back if they dont graduate. Isnt that an incentive to stay in school. I would say that a very high percentage of those kids who stay on academic scholarship will graduate. Also everybody talks about the NCAA as the problem because they are making all the money. Dont they give all this money back to the conferences? Did Cal suggest a pay scale for coaches or a pay cut to help pay for this. Cal and other coaches have no problem making millions in salary. This is money that is generated from the student athlete to isnt it?
  16. This sounds great for Cals one and done players. The NCAA will now buy their suits to wear on draft night. Only thing I agree with is If a coach leaves the player ought to be able to transfer without penalty. I would agree to a plane ride home in a family emergency/tragedy. I find it hard to believe that players on college scholarships at any level are starving and doing without. I dont see any committment from the athlete. How about if you dont graduate you have to pay a percentage of your tuition back like a loan that normal students have to take out. Give the athlete an extra year or two if they have not graduated to finish. All im seeing is we need to pay athletes and take the student part off.
  17. Good crowd. KY team played together in first half and lead. Second half was one on one selfish allstar basketball. First group in second half went one on one 5 straight trips in a row with tournovers and Ohio capitalized. Pretty much down hill from there. Johnson was tough easily Ky's best player.
  18. PRP kids are good players. Two of them are 6'7 and KY teams usually need size. Antonio McDaniels is a solid point guard. PRP did make the State tournament two years in a row with these kids. If Harris doesnt have to sit which he deserved PRP would have given Cov/Cath a challenge. Sometimes Louisville kids dont get the credit they deserve because they dont have inflated stats. They have to play against tough competition every single night. If these three kids were in a region other than the 6th,7th,9th, & 11th they would be Mr. Basketball candidates. For the record Im not a PRP fan.
  19. Currently the Baseball coach. David Hicks the new boys? basketball coach at Fairdale
  20. You have some great ideas. I like having it during the state tournament. A lot of college coaches attend this game due to being at sweet sixteen. Playing in Rupp would be great. I definitely think you would get a better turnout of players and fans. You are also right on with not announcing at the games. Only thing I can think of is if there is conflict with KABC and KHSAA that I dont know about. I do know that the award ceremony is at the HYATT during state.
  21. Not sure what overall numbers were. If I went on looks during games I would say way down. The finals crowd was announced at over 14,000.
  22. They dont automatically appear but it helps. I was at the whole state tounament but didnt go to some games. Had no interest in them. Couldnt wait to see Trinity/Scott Co. and the finals. Cov. Catholic student section was awsome. Student section crowds are down. They are down all year. Not sure if its transportation, money, or other interest but students are not coming to games. Trinity student section was terrible for a semi final game vs Scott Co.
