Trinity vs JCPS

Featured Replies

I saw this on Twitter today and thought I would pass it on, I found it interesting. Per Jason Frakes a sports journalist for the Louisville Courier Journal:

Aside from Ballard, Louisville Trinity has not lost a game to a Jefferson County Public School since losing to Seneca on February 1. 2011.

Thats a pretty good run.

Trinity only plays it's district games, LIT, District Tournament, and Region Tournament. No other JCPS school is allowed (or will not) schedule a game against them. Hence there are few teams that really get a shot at them.

They may get another chance against Ballard Saturday morning if both win tonight in the LIT.

I agree. This is one of those stats that has a lot of holes in it.

I believe the JCPS "boycott" is informal at best. I'm fairly certain Trinity has scheduled games with both Central and Western later this season.

Trinity is more like a public school anyway. Half of their team are public school kids. Weakens some of the public school teams. PRP would sure like to have Trey Ivory where his dad was an all state player.

And Fern Creek would love to have Quentin Snyder(who played for them as an 8th grader)

In Jeff Co kids go where they want, whether it be public or private, so can't just blame the privates for this one.

Public schools don't own kids, we live in America and parents have a choice.

Could careless where kids go or how they get there. Not the point. You made the point that Trinity is winning against public schools. They are winning with a lot public school kids. The public schools take kids from each other every year. Throw Trinity into and it hurts some schools even more.

I'd just like to point out that a LOT more kids go to JCPS after attending Catholic grade schools than vice versa....just sayin'....

True. Mostly due to cost of tuition. A lot of girls leave the catholic system for the traditional programs especially to Butler. Very few public school kids leave after middle school to go to catholic high schools unless they are athletes. Just sayin..

There is not a single public school kid on the Trinity team. Every kid on the team, every kid in the school is a Trinty kid.

"... unless they are athletes." Now that's a mouthful of words that speaks volumes. And speaking of Butler's girls' team, which is again very good this, check the catholic schools to see the talented players who attended Butler's feeder school. If they were not drawn out from Butler, they would have THE BEST talent in Kentucky, bar none. The same stuff happens with the boys, too. Let's face it, as attendance rules are becoming more and blurred and/or not enforced, public school and private school rosters are being filled more and more like AAU rosters. Sorry, but that is not a good thing.

So, so you guys get equally upset when CSAA athletes wind up on JCPS teams? 'Cause the CSAA is far superior to the JCPS elementary and middle school organizations, especially in the non-revenue and girls sports programs.

I think many of Trinity's students are "non-athletes" who attended public middle schools. They and their parents have chosen Trinity because of Trinity's own particular merits and perhaps because of dissatisfaction with their public schools, whether resulting from poor acaemics, lack of discipline, behavioral problems in the classroom, etc.
