LIT Seedings

Featured Replies

our wonderful Jefferson co AD, jerry Wyman, is at it again, after selling the gov't spending millions of dollars on a facility at valley high which is in his neighborhood and houses his office(we all know the return on our tax dollar on that decision) he now has been given the sole power to seed the teams in the boys LIT(for years it was the accurate time tested seeding based on the lit-ratings)that are named after his son, Seth ratings, he gave the #1seed to Bullitt east, purposely putting the 2 obvious best teams(Ballard,Trinity)in the same bracket so only one could reach the finals. .Bullitt east will lose in first or second round and anybody that follows basketball knows this. PRP is in the watered down bracket and with 4 losses in December, will waltz into the final. its a shame to let one adult ruin it for deserving kids.

I'm not sure PRP will waltz through the LIT if they look anything like the team I saw playing against Bryan Station in Lexington. You could tell they had some real talent, especially in Hunter and Harris, and we know that Mabrey is one of the best coaches in the State. Watching them though, I got the impression that they seemed like a team who'd turn it "on" and "off".

What incentive would he have to only have one of Ballard or Trinity reach the finals? Seems like you'd want them in it so you'd have a big gate.

Well Bullitt East didn't lose in the first round. Did They

There was a thread about this before and yes, the seeding were incredibly bad.

I don't agree with the seeding either. However, PRP will not walk to the finals. Last nights game with Fairdale was tied with 2 minutes left and Fairdale missed a two footer to go ahead. I don't think St. X is the 4th best team in Louisville but they are according to the Seth rankings they are. No ranking system will make everyone happy. The LIT is a great tournament. However the best team will win. It will be either Ballard or Trinity.

Both the Seth and the Litkenhous rating systems do not reward Kentucky teams for winning or losing against out of state teams. The reason for this is that it is impossible to properly rate every team in the United States. Ballard and Trinity played a lot of very good out of state teams in December but none of their victories counted toward their rankings. Bullitt East and Saint X played all their games against Ky. opponents and also won holiday tournaments which added points to their Seth rankings. This is a formula based on criteria which is explained thoroughly at the beginning of each season, with current SETH Rankings available on a weekly basis. Bullitt East and Saint X may not be top 4 teams in the city but they are both in the elite 8 in the LIT.

We shall see! BTW, I am not Jerry Wyman or employed by JCPS

Well the problem is when you allow BE to pay a fine to play this year. You have rules BE did not want to play in the LIT last year and played a game on a date that they shouldn't have. Would he have allowed a school like Moore to do that? He tweaks the system every year and in doing so he has made it worst. You could easily give a team a lost to an A school if they loss to an out of state school and count it as a C win. Also I would start everyone out at the same 75.00. That way you don’t have schools with 3-11 record playing in it.

Thats the excuse that they use for the Seth rankings. No way to put a ranking on out of state teams. Thats Oscar Mayer Bologna. You can use Max preps to get a national ranking. Ballard beat Riverside from NOLA a top ranked team in their state and Shaker Heights from Ohio a top team from their state. The KOB only invites top out of state teams. Ballard played in the Whataburger Classic that is invite only and pays all expenses. Those teams are gonna be good. Fairdale's record deserved a 12 seed but they also played Shaker Heights, East Jefferson La #1 team in NOLA, and Christian Life top ranked team from Baton Rouge. If they win any of those they would have got no points. I guess Louisville schools should stay home and not take kids to New Orleans or Dallas so they can get a better SETH ranking. No system is perfect. However, JCPS has said they will adjust it accordingly but they havent.

Last year they counted out of state games everything was a "C" win. I agree JCPS is penalizing the schools who take they teams out of state. If you are not a Ballard or Trinity of the World and a team who is fighting every year to get in you have no shot if you play out of state.

Holy Cross had to play a play in game because Moore and Seneca did not lose any point for out of state teams. But a 3 or 4 win team should not be allowed in.

Nah, Ballard should keep going to those tournaments, let their kids see some of the US and get exposure. If they do that, the rest will take care of itself, because when you are playing at that level, the rest takes care of itself.

Ballard could play 30 games out of state and 0 in-state and they'd still be the team to beat in March, IMO.

I think they should stop relying on mathematical (or lack thereof) systems and establish a panel to seed the tournament accurately.
