Sanoila (CCH soph) may have a coming out year...

There aren't many radar guns used by/and or shared with the general public...so the numbers thrown around are often assumed or estimated...then they become fact. With that being said...around here...a kid in the mid 80's is in the top of the heap..a kid in the high 80's is D1 potential assuming he can also 'pitch' and do it consistently...Most of the kids we see on a daily basis throw mid 70's to low 80's

Okay...I'll bite...who do you have in mind? Most of the more impressive frosh centers are simply big for their age and therefore little can be said about their future...the truly big kids at that age are usually already playing up and well on their way...or they need to grow into their long young bodies...I can't think of any frosh inside kids who we can really say much about...so back to the top...who do you think we ought to know about?

You're point is well taken and appreciated. I don't know if Covington is really 'depressed', it's simply a diverse inner city district with all the good and bad that goes with that. As a life long resident of the area, I will tell you that Holmes is one of the best schools in this state, and the spirit and support for their kids is deep and has been for as long as I can remember. People take their shots, but they all make Holmes night on their schedule...You should have seen the cheering section give the Colonel Crazies all they could handle this year in basketball...it was awesome! It's the only night I remember seeing the blue colonels pause and try to think up a response...several times. I am very proud to have the Bulldogs in NK...they deal with a lot that some of us don't have to, and they always keep moving forward. (btw...I'm a CCH parent)

I think you're asking if these kids are punished or pushed slightly aside by the coach of a particular sport if they do not attend off season workouts for that sport? OR, you may be simply asking if it hurts them in terms of preparedness to miss off season activity; either way...all I meant by "Shover is focusing on basketball" was that he chose to play a lot less baseball so that he could make basketball activities his priority. I know him and his dad, that was his choice because he simply likes basketball more. I don't know how much baseball he ended up playing. Van played a fair amount of baseball and he worked his football; Sainola pretty much played baseball full time. From my experience at CCH so far, all the coaches want the kids to attend as much as they can of their sport; but they all seem to respect the kids' choices to play multiple sports. I think each family looks at their respective goals and chooses where to spend their time. From what I've seen; the better kids play...period. If the better kids also happen to be the kids who have worked at that sport for more of the year; then they play. If a kid shows up for basketball after football is over and he is better than a kid who has been there all summer; from what I see, he plays. The challenge for these kids at CCH, and probably elsewhere, is that there is more competition than when I played all three; and the kids that work a particular sport may very well pass up the kid who doesn't. So it could hurt someone in that respect. However, I don't see the kids who want to and truly can do it all being hurt...ie Bovard for example. Does that make sense and/or answer the question?

No problem...I am truly not ruffeled...honestly, I think it's all a lot of speculation on these younger kids as many things change. I just know this group pretty well and tried to answer the question relative to the tryouts and the fact that they played more than frosh and did well...in no way do I believe they are any better or the best team or whatever; they simply have a pretty good young group that has been exposed to a lot of competition outside NK. btw, I just re-read the original post...I did say that they lost to Scott in the regional....

Don't know coach r; but am a CCH fan...I thought his answer was interesting and very positive. I have been told that he really likes and respects the CCH / HHS rivalry...I agree with him, it's good for those schools and NK football to have those two meet and mean something.

All I can tell you is that Darner and Holocher played JV with several other frosh (Hartmann, Shover, Sainola, Isler, Nutini, Maile, VanSant, Darner)...Isler and Maile ended up playing all varsity. JV went 20 and 3...they lost to Scott in the regional against another summer teammate frosh Murray. Shover, VanSant and Sainola didn't tryout for the summer Colonels: Shover is focusing on basketball; VanSant is starting varsity football; and Sainola just didn't tryout for some reason. Hartmann and Murray didn't make it...Murray is as good as those who did I think...Nutini was clocked at 84...Sainola throws harder than he does, but is not as athletic and can't hit with the others...but look for those two to be there next year as juniors. Hartmann is an above average outfielder, great speed, lead off hitter, steals with ease...he is a very good player. Just not quite at the level of some of the others yet. This group, along with Pabst from NewCath played against national caliber talent every day in the summer...they did more than hold their own...;; I'd take their summer team any day, vs any age group...I guess we'll see how they develop from here?

Farris didn't try out....Isler, Holocher, Darner, Maile and Nutini all made the team..all sophs...

Got it. Let me just say that the tradition, the passion and the interest that exists here in NK in most all the communities is something of which I am very proud to be part. I absolutely love the healthy, competitive pride each community holds dear for their respective schools. So I too encourage you to stay the course. Just know, that not everyone outside your community is attacking it...so a defense is not always warranted. Ludlow, imo is one of the many gems in this part of the world! With that said, let me concede that I am not yet tuned into the personalities behind the nicknames...so forgive my catching up; and thanks for the help.

BigZ, I don't think I know either of you (old guy), so maybe there's some history I'm missing...but man, you gotta relax. There's nothing in this that's remotely inflamatory. I mostly read on this thing, and old guy's posts are generally "your basic fan" variety posts. He regularly slams CCH for their ugly play, and he Always has a nice word about others...what's the deal? OH yeah, Congrats to Villa...and Ludlow will be back in this region very soon!

Gotta figure out how to beat HC first....doesn't it feel like it's just time to start the tourney? With the district brackets set, these final games seem completely boring and irrelevant...I know that's stupid.... I'm just excited to get to the tourney...

Frankly, I don't care that much...just checkin in while the Reds win one....but; it you're correct that it's three...then it doesn't make sense. Stephens threw 7 on Saturday, according to the rules...Sun, Mon, and Tuesday are his three he cannot pitch; if Neuman threw 3 on Monday, then he couldn't throw Tuesday...we must be wrong on his innings Monday. BTW Reds 9 the other team 6...
