Coach Rodenberg says Cov Cath wants 5A.

Featured Replies

Cov Cath's Coach Rodenberg just appeared on a Cincinnnati sports talk show. He was asked about the new six class alignment and where he sees Cov Cath being positioned. He stated that they hope to move up to 5A. But he said he is most concerned about staying in a competitive district...with Highlands.

Don't know coach r; but am a CCH fan...I thought his answer was interesting and very positive. I have been told that he really likes and respects the CCH / HHS rivalry...I agree with him, it's good for those schools and NK football to have those two meet and mean something.

I wouldn't think that should come as a surprise to anyone. Everyone knows that the CovCath/Highlands rivalry is one of, if not the best in the state, so wouldn't it just make sense that he would want to keep the rivalry in tact. This statement didn't do anythign but confirm that Highlands will have to make a two class jump in order to keep the rivalry going.

That's what I have thought all along.

Highlands and CCH petition to move to 5A.

It will be interesting.

A move would make it a 6 team district.

The KHSAA will not likely drop anyone and may just move teams around.

The logical move would to send Grant County to the Montgomery County district, but there will be some serious travel there. but seems like the best fit.

Unless of course, they allow the 6 team district to stand.

Or Dixie may opt to play up. Will they? I wouldn't think so.

We will find out more tomorrow.

From what I overheard at the Dixie-Highlands game, Tom and Dale would like to stay together in 5A. They have done a lot of talking together about it.

I guess the big question then remains: IF they let teams play up in Class (i.e. 4A CovCath playing in 5A) will they let schools jump 2 Classes (3A Highlands to 5A) ?

I am under the impression that schools will be allowed to play up, including jumping two classes.

Take a look at the following:

http://www.khsaa.org/football/realignment/schoolresponses.pdf

Lists those schools which have asked to play up and those which want to "Play Down."

Only Russelville and Highlands have asked to play up 2 classes. 5 teams want to play up to 3A and 3 want to play up to 5A.

I don't think you can move down a class.:creepy:

I personally think that it's great that some of the more competitive programs want to move up in the classes. It says a lot about their programs. Maybe that's why they are so successful.
