I just want to make sure you saw that I apologized to you for emphatically stating that you were wrong.

I found the same site...it's an explanation of the most misunderstood rules in basketball. So, Sweet16, I am wrong regarding the rule book. My apologies. The actual rule to which you refer does say that the defender has to keep himself and his arms straight up or he risks conceding his "rule of verticality" right. It's up the official to figure that out I guess. I'll stand by my point, however, that the way I explained my point previously is the way the game has been taught for many moons ... and I've been around a lot of basketball and never seen it called on offensive player. But again, technically, your are correct and I was wrong. Good call!

There's way more to this game to discuss than this, but your point is simply wrong. No where in the rule book is that stated.

I understand, but the defender, by leaving his feet, forfeits any claim to establishing position. The offensive player is allowed to attempt his shot and even move toward the basket in that attempt without penalty. There simply is no situation, when the defender leaves his feet ... no matter how far forward the shooter jumps, where it's an offensive foul. Move the shot to right under the basket, the defender jumps straight up and the offensive kid goes up and toward the basket .... it's a defensive foul. Same situation just farther from the rim. It's really not a point of contention at all. That's a defensive foul. Only exception is if an official deems a "flagrant" by the offensive kid.

Is that backwards? If not, Beechwood has all of the sudden become a threat to the big girls?

At least. This shouldn't be a game whatsoever.

Velocity! If he finds an opportunity, and works his tail off...he could play some college and maybe bloom late. He simply doesn't throw hard enough to attract colleges...he just throws a lot of high school outs.

From what I was told by some very successful contemporaries of Leo Foster's, he is probably the all time best. An amazing, dominating athlete at whatever sport he played.

Why are Coach L fans some of the most insecure people on here? Again, relax man. Not everything is about him....most times, people are just talking about what they write.

Not exactly. I said that "cch had their chances and one call doesn't lose you the game" but, that call at the end of the game was not a call you want to make to decide a game. Just not enough going on there to be the deciding call. Watch a little basketball, talk to some officials...really man, i didn't invent the thought. When you're going to potentially decide a game with your call, you're not going to do that on a marginal foul (meaning that it may or may not be a foul at ANY point in the game)...it needs to be a no brainer. That is neither an excuse, a criticism of the officials, or a request for them to leave the floor in the last half minute... I was stating a widely held basketball sentiment. Find another post with more controversy, FOTR, there's really nothing to debate here.

Refs called a fine game. Holmes affected CCH at the bucket early in the game, which cost them the game. Hayden may help CCH next time round. District 35 is a blast! No official at any level is going to tell you that you make THAT call with 1.6 sec to decide a game, CCH had their chances and one call doesn't lose you the game, BUT that was a terrible call to make to decide this one....should've played OT, but that's the way the ball bounces.

One cannot possibly deny the fact that CCH has been highly touted, loaded, and a complete and utter disappointment since 2007 years...at least! Seriously? From 2006 -2009 they re-wrote the offensive record book and have "ZERO" to show for it. Last year's team might be the sole exception. Please don't be a fool and take offense at someone stating the obvious. I too am tired of the pattern of early hype / late season choking...and I am a BIG CCH fan, btw. But, if we're being honest...twenty wins and a bunch of districts is a silly-low expectation with the kids that go thru those doors at that school... With that said...this group might win a few games this year. (That's really all we should say until we win something)

I realize this is CCH v BC thread...but I must agree strongly with this...PC is as good as anybody in the 9th Region that I've seen, for sure...

Have any of you seen both teams play this year? I don't know anything about PC except that they lost to Scott, beat S Laurel and Augusta; and, there's no commonality with those teams and CCH either. The Lex. Herald preseason rank has CCH at 6th in the 9th and PC 4th in the 10th (Scott at #8 btw). I think CCH looks better, in these first four games, than most expected and it sounds like PC is too? I'm just looking forward to a good game after hearing these predictions. No disrespect to PC, based entirely on the previous contest a couple of years ago, I assumed this would be in CC's favor even on the road. Fortunately, that appears to be an inaccurate assumption...gotta love H.S. Basketball!!!!

No. They have a different theme every night. Black out / White out / Braveheart / Grade school Uniform night / Business Man Dress / Toga / Dress like your dad / Hillbilly night / Yuppie / etc etc ... just to name a few I remember...

Agreed. Now what did I learn last night? An inexperienced and relatively 'skinny' (I mean that literally, we didn't look terribly muscular next to Fatkin, Rogers & even Stenzel), CCH team showed some toughness against a similarly inexperienced, but distinctly more physically gifted team. I think they will improve and be a contender before it's all over.

Clyde, my man, relax. It's all good. No one's trying to hurt old Coach L. Just Cboy's opinion that the game was more enjoyable to watch than previous years. It's an opinion, which I share for some technical / philosophical basketball reasons; but that is only a statement about Coach L if you make it one. I took it simply as a positive statement about the future. Coach L's legacy is what it is. (Btw, I really like the format of my exam papers a lot more this semester than the format of last years exams...(does that read that last year's prof was an idiot?)

Short answer, "yes". Bir was not sharp, so in fairness to the play calling, CCH did run more than throw in the first half too, I'm sure it made sense to mix it up, but it seemed every time they got some momentum, the passing game stalled it. RC's best players were in the secondary, and had fresh legs in the first half, they sat back and read pretty much every pass...which added to the passing difficulty. No question that in the second half CCH just came out and ran, ran, ran. They had RC's backers running from sideline to sideline and forced them to come up and make tackles....then the occasional pass was wide open. From my perspective though, I thought CCH 's defense made the biggest impact. RC is very good, the QB is not a great thrower but a really great, big/strong athletic kid..very talented. The running back is also an impressive runner / athlete...and their O line is BIG! First half, RC seemed to do what they wanted more than not...fortunately for CCH though, they turned the ball over and didn't finish. Second half, CCH D gave their O good fp consistently and got RC's D back on the field pretty quickly and often. I was impressed with CCH's D line playing with much more grit in the second half. I must add that CCH's corner people played extremely well, especially in the second half...Cleves, Guess, Reese come to mind, but they all did a great job of stringing everything out against some very athletic runners. IMO, CCH needs to speed up their no huddle play calling and run the ball (they always seem to hurt their own momentum by standing their too long looking at their wrists)...maybe just script the first 20-30 plays, and let that running game put people on their heels before even thinking about throwing down the field. While I'm at it...the D calls need to speed up too! More than a few times CCH is looking at the sideline and the O is ready to snap the ball. With all that being said...I must say that CovCath's staff does an exceptional job of in-game adjusting and consistently makes the perfect call to break big plays...and, this D was a HUGE question when the season started...they have improved every week imo.
