  1. So there's still a chance...Vandy's got Tn at home so that doesn't help...but, it we win two at Fl and they drop two, we're in...right? But if we don't at least win two and they win one more than us, then it's over? Thanks for the help!
  2. I'm trying to figure out what has to happen to get into the SEC tourney. It looks like any combination of a Vandy loss and UK win ties us with Vandy...which means we win the tie break for the 8th spot? Also, why are the league standings set up into divisions if it's the top 8 overall who move on?
  3. Don't know the specifics...but, it appears the Cru is playing quite well as of late? Some very tight games against some good teams. Didn't they lose a close one to Lex Cath and New Cath lately also..? Seems like there's more? Holy Cross maybe...?
  4. I think he's just messin with you guys....the kid's a very, very good athlete/baseball player and his numbers represent that. Whether he deserves to be at least in the discussion is not a serious debate.
  5. Is the game at 4:00 today? The weather is supposed to be nice until the next rain front moves in about 7:00 or 8:00 pm fwiw...
  6. I heard CC was undefeated but lost to CCH last night 13-3 in 6? That doesn't sound correct...I mean I know the score is, but CC must have been throwing off or something..
  7. So...like on the walk thru the parking lot back to the bus...the ump grabs a kid and yells "YUR OUTTA HERE!"??
  8. I haven't seen him this year yet so maybe that ankle is bothering him? But I saw him at the invite only Area Code Tryouts last July...he threw 15 or so fastballs and was between 87 and 91. (So I guess the shortstop throws 91 to 99?) Seriously, these weren't rookies on the gun who showed me. He is a late developing kid who has the frame and tools to play some serious baseball if he continues to develop as he has in the past 24 months. Great kid and could be a great challenge for the Colonels. But I'll take Cov Cath by 4.
  9. To MLB's point....it would be a little misleading to suggest to fellow posters that CCH was not having lots of trouble offensively against a terrific high school (jr) pitcher! He is the best I've seen this year so far. CCH had only 4 hits thru 6, and one was a very high fly ball to short right that really should have been caught; one was a bunt, and Darner / Ice squeezed a base hit each in there (neither were ropes). It is accurate to report that no one was hitting this kid with authority, and most not at all. He was in total control, and several CCH batters were simply overmatched. However, it is no insult to Thompson to say that the veteren members of CCH were not off by much and appeared to be poised to make a move. The inability of FC to capitalize on opportunities with runners on base cold be attributed to mistakes by FC, but you could compliment CCH for some terrifice defense. The pick off was an out from my view; and the suicide with bases loaded was tipped off by the runner on third breaking a little too early as the entire CCH bench and field screamed "SQEEZE!", whereby Nute, (in mid windup), located the pitch in an untouchable location up and out to Maile who was also in instant sync with him...which left the runner dead to out and poured water on what appeared to be the makings of a huge inning for FC. Nutini pitched well enough to keep his team in the game, but was the second best pitcher for sure. His defense stepped up on more than a few occasions. Can't we just say that it was a tremendous baseball game, well played by both teams and headlined by an outstanding pitcher who threw a gem of a game and simply threw the wrong pitch, in the wrong location, to the wrong kid, at the wrong time. After the homerun, CCH went base hit, base hit, base hit, suicide to win. Nothing about this game suggests that Thompson is anything less than a truly special pitcher! Velocity, location, good off speed stuff, poise, confidence, intimidation...he has it all, imo. At the same time, the core for CCH were not "out of their league" and drew from their vast experience against dominate pitchers such as this. Throughout the game, one just felt that FC and Thompson were going to win...BUT...there was a sense that CCH had a few big hits in them and weren't going to simply concede to his impressive stuff. In short, it was just a spectacular baseball game!
  10. I was told JV is at 5:00 with varsity at 7:00, both at Dixie...anyone know if that's correct?
  11. Not sure you'll be pleased there either? I agree with you in that there seems to be a new trend of heckling players, and I know it would have never been tolerated when I played (or coached). I attended several SEC games last season and it was relentless! At LSU, Georgia, and yes, UK too. No one was what I would call "nasty" or "foul", but it was loud and it was NON-stop! Commenting on, well, anything and everything in an attempt to distract the opposing players. Seemed to be a "sun deck" or "party deck" thing aimed mostly at outfielders. Making fun of names, shape, the way a kid walked, wore his hat; a kid tripped coming on the field and that went on for two innings. The new 'home field advantage in baseball? Can't say that I've noticed it high school yet, but it sounds like it's coming? Hope not though.
  12. Just a friendly fyi...there's a fairly comprehensive list under "Other College Sports". If I knew how to insert a link to it, I would...but..:idunno:
  13. I vote Smith best Pitcher ! All those in favor signify by saying "aayy". :isurrender:
  14. Does anybody have previous preseason polls handy? Curious how close past polls came to the final 16?
  15. I honestly don't know the answer and have not seen one of her games: Are her total calls way out of balance against Holmes? In other words, do the other refs call like 10 fouls a game on Holmes and she is more like 20? Do her games with Holmes have a dissproportionate amount of calls against the Bulldogs. My guess is that is not the case statistically. In addition, by your logic, if one graduated from a 9th region high school they are necessarily unable to call a fair game for anyone in the region except their's? I mean if Tom Freppon makes a series of bad calls against CCH or HHS, should we all assume he can't be fair because he's a New Cath guy? That would eliminate quite a few refs over the years. Maybe we just disagreed with his calls. I'm not terribly concerned with this topic...you can rip her all you want. If you think she's bad have at it; you're entitled to your opinion. But to say or imply that a ref is intentionally biased or unfair is too much. You better have more info than she graduated from of another school 30 years go to throughing out those kind of accusations.
  16. Kind of on topic? Or at least fun facts .... UK ranked preseason #19 in the country and UL #8 according to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Also, UK finished the season ranked 25th in the country for attendance, UL at 50th. The top 12 in attendance include 11 SEC schools, USC was the only non-SEC school and South Carolina the only SEC school not in the top 12. Quite a conference when you're 10th in your conference and 25th in the country in attendance. Looking forward to continued excitement for baseball in Kentucky!!
  17. Whole heartedly agree! I personally saw the gun (it was a pro scout's gun btw) at a summer workout. Five pitches when I was sitting with the guy...88 89, 90, 90, and 91. I don't know if he holds that for extended innings yet, and there's more to pitching than velocity but he is still a young body, that will mature and he has gotten better quickly. I think he is just one of those late bloomer kids that fell under the radar. He is an excellent college catch! If AJ continues to work as hard as he has this past year. We will be following him for many years on the mound! In addition, he is one of those kids you love to see do well. As cliché as it sounds, he is just a really great kid.
  18. Congratulations Dad! It's a 235 lbs 8 oz bouncing baby boy...and he's a spittin image!
