  1. Have any of you seen both teams play this year? I don't know anything about PC except that they lost to Scott, beat S Laurel and Augusta; and, there's no commonality with those teams and CCH either. The Lex. Herald preseason rank has CCH at 6th in the 9th and PC 4th in the 10th (Scott at #8 btw). I think CCH looks better, in these first four games, than most expected and it sounds like PC is too? I'm just looking forward to a good game after hearing these predictions. No disrespect to PC, based entirely on the previous contest a couple of years ago, I assumed this would be in CC's favor even on the road. Fortunately, that appears to be an inaccurate assumption...gotta love H.S. Basketball!!!!
  2. No. They have a different theme every night. Black out / White out / Braveheart / Grade school Uniform night / Business Man Dress / Toga / Dress like your dad / Hillbilly night / Yuppie / etc etc ... just to name a few I remember...
  3. Agreed. Now what did I learn last night? An inexperienced and relatively 'skinny' (I mean that literally, we didn't look terribly muscular next to Fatkin, Rogers & even Stenzel), CCH team showed some toughness against a similarly inexperienced, but distinctly more physically gifted team. I think they will improve and be a contender before it's all over.
  4. Clyde, my man, relax. It's all good. No one's trying to hurt old Coach L. Just Cboy's opinion that the game was more enjoyable to watch than previous years. It's an opinion, which I share for some technical / philosophical basketball reasons; but that is only a statement about Coach L if you make it one. I took it simply as a positive statement about the future. Coach L's legacy is what it is. (Btw, I really like the format of my exam papers a lot more this semester than the format of last years exams...(does that read that last year's prof was an idiot?)
  5. Short answer, "yes". Bir was not sharp, so in fairness to the play calling, CCH did run more than throw in the first half too, I'm sure it made sense to mix it up, but it seemed every time they got some momentum, the passing game stalled it. RC's best players were in the secondary, and had fresh legs in the first half, they sat back and read pretty much every pass...which added to the passing difficulty. No question that in the second half CCH just came out and ran, ran, ran. They had RC's backers running from sideline to sideline and forced them to come up and make tackles....then the occasional pass was wide open. From my perspective though, I thought CCH 's defense made the biggest impact. RC is very good, the QB is not a great thrower but a really great, big/strong athletic kid..very talented. The running back is also an impressive runner / athlete...and their O line is BIG! First half, RC seemed to do what they wanted more than not...fortunately for CCH though, they turned the ball over and didn't finish. Second half, CCH D gave their O good fp consistently and got RC's D back on the field pretty quickly and often. I was impressed with CCH's D line playing with much more grit in the second half. I must add that CCH's corner people played extremely well, especially in the second half...Cleves, Guess, Reese come to mind, but they all did a great job of stringing everything out against some very athletic runners. IMO, CCH needs to speed up their no huddle play calling and run the ball (they always seem to hurt their own momentum by standing their too long looking at their wrists)...maybe just script the first 20-30 plays, and let that running game put people on their heels before even thinking about throwing down the field. While I'm at it...the D calls need to speed up too! More than a few times CCH is looking at the sideline and the O is ready to snap the ball. With all that being said...I must say that CovCath's staff does an exceptional job of in-game adjusting and consistently makes the perfect call to break big plays...and, this D was a HUGE question when the season started...they have improved every week imo.
  6. Used to be a minute, that rule changed within the last couple years.
  7. I think that is changed to Wednesday at home vs Eastern Michigan...not positive, but that was the word on CatsPause.
  8. I agree. At least for CCH, success should be measured by State Final appearances / wins or something a little higher with the boys they get. Coach K deserves his accolades if for nothing else, his kids do respect him and enjoy coming back to see him...that speaks volumes in my mind. But to say the best coach and everyone's far behind because or multiple 20 wins is "overblown".
  9. Are you sure? Who did Beechwood beat? I thought that game was moved to Wed due to rain? Then CCH vs that winner on Thursday? Am I completely confused?
  10. First a couple quick points of fact: As sad is it is to have to point at the young Dinkel boy in this fiasco, suffice it to say that he (and understandably so, considering what he was put through), was many times the instigator, believe it. By all accounts, he was (and again, understandably), angry, confused, depressed, and offensive. It is entirely inaccurate to paint the other boy the arrogant, rogue, punk OR the timid, pure and pathetic little victim. Secondly, I find interesting, pathetic and sad that neither of these families seem to want this to end?!!? At what point does one find the humility to recognize their own failures and just shut up? I suppose if one continues to point outwardly at all the "bad" long enough and with enough relentless fervor, that somehow their own culpability is erased? As I stated, this has been extremely painful for many. First the horrific assault itself, then two years of constant drama and pain, the victim's family attacks....then the legally requisite counter attacks....now this. One cannot heal properly by constantly ripping open the scabs and re-infecting the sore! Four years that are generally expected to provide this entire class of boys with some of the best years of their young lives have been forever stained by the actions of one very ill adult. This has been an emotional, psychological, legal, and financial disaster for many, many young men and their families. The 'victim', (and that is a literal and legal term), is admittedly not without fault in the decisions he made relative to this entire episode, (before, during and after), however, let us please remember that the reason this is 'illegal' is precisely because young adults (ie 15 yrs old) are not expected to posses the maturity, insight, discretion, context, foresight, fortitude, understanding, etc etc to handle life's "adult" situations properly, adults are, more specifically, parents. Are some young men better prepared than others, maybe?-Yes. Would another boy react better or differently, maybe?-Yes. Are his parents perfect?-No. Does that then permit him to be pursued, manipulated and seduced repeatedly and then scorned for how he deals with the confusion, utter anguish, embarrassment and mess left in the wake? I think not. Is it utterly horrific that a young man of similar age be expected to deal with the mind-blowing realization and constant reminder of his mother's terrible illnesses and subsequent actions all the while fighting his own horrible battle with illness?--Absolutely! Neither should have been dealt these hands and neither should be judged by their respective, and appropriately "immature" (at times), mechanisms for coping. So that leaves the 'adults'. If we must make someone "pay", do we really have to look that far and hasn't the 'system' already garnished it's justice? It's time to look inward for healing and move on! Do we really believe the church, or the school, the police, or anybody else could have prevented any part of this mess? Seriously? There is but one perpetrator, two victims, and massive collateral damage...enough already.........pleeeaaase!
  11. Congrats Wildcats! Don't stop here....any chance BOKA will me made available for practice in preparation for Rupp? Seems like that would be a good preparation to see as much of it as possible...
  12. fwiw...Denny Jansen reported that BK did tell the team prior to the media outburst today....
  13. "Bubba, you better let go now...he dropped it..."
  14. That is really the point of all of this IMO! If you read UK's legal response to Paxton's suit, which is on their website, it is pretty obvious to me what this is about. I would dare say that everyone involved knows exactly what the requested meeting is about too. The GM from the BlueJays is quoted in an article saying that (in so many words) he is dissappointed that they couldn't come to terms with Paxton, but that he had a tough "agent" representing him....and...if he could have gotten Paxton alone face to face he thinks he would have gotten the deal done! First, "thanks a lot pal"! What an idiot! Second, by rule, that is not allowed. You're not allowed to have an "agent", and you're not allowed to have anyone discuss, negotiate, meet, solicit, etc on your behalf. All communication has to be directly between the team and the kid only. Finally and more to my point, that whole system is screwed up! UK, along with all the other schools, should be assisting Paxton and all kids in fighting and changing this unfair system. I understand rules against receiving payment or gifts, or promises of anything etc etc etc. But to expect these kids to deal with professional negotiators when they're literally making life changing, irreversable decisions in an environment that is intimidating and new to them without as much representation as possible is ridiculous!!! Unfortunately, I'm afraid Paxton isn't just fighting the micro issue of not attending his interrogation; he's going to be fighting the legality of the entire system. The one positive, in that regard, is that the court system has sided with the kids on a couple of similar suits recently. I truly hope he gets this behind him quickly and successfully!!
  15. Another good recruiting class announced this past week. Looks like a couple of the top kids in the state decide to stay home again! Anybody know any of these guys? (Still haven't quite figured out the hyperlink thing if any BGP "angels" want to pitch in?) In the mean time, go to http://www.ukathletics.com/men/baseball then you'll see the article if interested....
  16. Marcus Niddifer....5th year senior
  17. Uhh.....my bad! One should never doubt TOG in matters such as this! It is the home opener at UK...can't wait! I really have high hopes for this group even though they are fairly young overall, ( with a couple of very notable exceptions). Thanks for the help Clyde...
  18. They just released the schedule (I don't know how to insert a link ) http://www.ukathletics.com / baseball / schedule results... anyway, I think that game is AT MSU?
  19. Anybody else excited about this team? I know we still have about 15? weeks till "tip off", and...it's fb season....annnd....there's a little bit of hype about hoops.....but intrasquad fall ball is in full swing and it's kind of exciting for Wildcat baseball fans: ~Two of the top pitchers in the country (Paxton and Meyer) ~Braden Kapetyn 2009 NYCBL POY and #1 ranked prospect out of that league ~Logan Darnell 2008 NYCBL POY and #2 ranked prospect from the 09 Alaska Summer Ball League; ~ Chris Bisson 09 Cape Cod League record holder for stolen bases, All SEC infielder; ~ Two consecutive top ranked recruiting classes (#5 - 08; #6/#15 - 09) ~ Several KY kids in the mix ....just to name a few highlights.... Went down for intrasquad last weekend and it's a deeper, talented group top to bottom...Kapetyn and Niddifer both hit monster dingers.....looking forward to seeing more this weekend if the weather cooperates... It looks like a lot was added both offensively as well as pitching depth, should be some good competition for pt...which is a great problem to have! Go Cats!
  20. Ditto...exactly what I wanted to add. These kids ARE by definition of KHSAA, CovCath middle schoolers.
  21. The way Nidiffer started the 09 season, the talk was that he would not be back for 2010 as he was tearing it up and eligible for the 09 draft. As the season progressed, he didn't do quite as well however. I think it was more a matter of exhaustion as there appeared to be a big drop from him to the next group of catchers and the kid looked much different later in the season imo (ie: tired). Hopefully, the young kids step up a little more this year to let him rest occassionally which should translate into him having a great year! I am very excited about this group...they may be a little under the radar starting off? (though Paxton and Meyer are not under any radars). I am looking for them to compete at the top of the SEC!
  22. Never would have called this one. This is just great news for UK in 2010. I thought UK would be decent, but this definitely changes things in a big way! Can't wait for February...1st pitch Myrtle Beach!!
