There aren't many radar guns used by/and or shared with the general public...so the numbers thrown around are often assumed or estimated...then they become fact. With that being said...around here...a kid in the mid 80's is in the top of the heap..a kid in the high 80's is D1 potential assuming he can also 'pitch' and do it consistently...Most of the kids we see on a daily basis throw mid 70's to low 80's

Well said and with many variations of radar guns, velocity can fluctuate 3-5 mph's....

 

Most solid programs, who are consistently competing for Sectional titles and trips to the State, will have 3-4 pitchers who are near mid 80's, with 1-2 being better. Some programs will have 1-2 pitchers with this ability.

 

A pitcher who is consistently 87 or above, will certainly get some looks from college, if he has an offspeed pitch he can control and a desire to work hard.

A kid that throws over 87 and has a good offspeed pitch like u said STRIKE3 is going to be a dominating pitcher.
