The next couple seasons could be rough for HC since they're losing so many seniors. However, both the freshman and JV teams are undefeated so far. This win makes the Class A picture a lot more interesting at least. NCC & Beechwood have dominated for so long, it's nice to see a little parity.

Next year CCH & HC will be very tough. Beechwood will be good again too, but probably not like this year since they lost so many seniors. I'm not sure about Holmes but I don't think they'll be as good as these three. With all this in mind, I think CCH & HC will go to the regionals, but you never know especially in baseball. A mediocore team with an awesome pitcher can always win one game against a superior team and it only takes one district win to get to the regionals!

Mike List graduated in '77, Turkey Jones in '76. '78 team also had Rick Eckerle, Scott Urlage, Doug Schlarman, Wille Kramer. Jeff Trame graduated that year too, but didn't play.

HC was up by about 13 points with 4 or so minutes to go in that district game I think. This was before the 3 point shot, so the Bulldogs made a tremendous comeback! Eifert & Lenihan were only sophomores that year with a team with 8 seniors so they didn't play much then.

I believe it! That 68 team was awful good. So much of the Sweet 16 is the luck of the draw!

I always thought those CCH teams of the 60's were awesome too. However, other than the 67 state runnerup team, they didn't fare too well at the state tournament. The 68, 69 & 70 teams lost in the first round and the 71 team lost their second game. As good as those teams were, this really surprised me! NCC had a great run in 73,74 & 75 and their teams were definitely not a fluke.They lost in the first round in 73 & in the quarterfinals in 74 & 75 though.

I had always heard that the shot was put up AFTER the buzzer. I wasn't at the game so I can't make my own conclusion. Were you there Old Guy? If so, what's your opinion?

You would have to say 1981 Simon Kenton because they are the only state champ! Those would be followed closely by CovCath's 1967 team and Holmes' 1978 team who should have been state champs too, had they not been screwed! Those two would be followed by the 1965 Holy Cross state runnerups who ran out of gas in the finals because they had to play the 4 games in 48 hours thing and the Holmes 1990 state runnerups who just couldn't quite get by a very talented Fairdale team. Honorable mentions would have to be the '54 Newport team and the '97 Highlands team which were also both state runnerups. I think you have to put a lot of stock in how far a team went in the state tournament to consider them a great TEAM even though other teams may have had more talent. Other great teams I can remember who finished third or lower in the state tournament were: 1980 Holmes which had to play on a Friday night well after midnight and then come back Saturday morning to play the semis. Naturally, they ran out of gas. The 1991 Holy Cross team with Andre McClendon & 4 guards who lost to Tates Creek in the semis, the 1953 NewCath team & the 1955 Newport team which both lost in the third place game.

HC kickers played a huge part in this game. Dornbush consistently booted the ball in the end zone on kickoffs which kept the Bulldog athletes from running the ball back against the Indians young special teams squad. That was HUGE!Sullivan also did a great job punting. Bulldogs are super quick and great athletes but really need more team disipline. They had numerous personal foul calls along with a lot of off sides. Penalties killed them!

Best atmosphere I've experienced is when CCH plays HC at HC when both teams are good ,closely followed by CCH vs HC at CCH! Some of the greatest games atmosphere wise ever played were when these two hooked up in the late 60's and early 70's in their respective gyms. I'm glad CCH kept their "old" gym when they built the new school. There are so many memories in that gym. Just like Fenway & Wrigley, I hope CCH & HC never get new gyms!

Great job Tigers, bring it home tonight! Some observations while watching the game last night: PRP had the smallest team I've ever seen. At least 6 of their first 9 players looked to be 5'6" or smaller when they were batting. When did the Louisville team win the Little League World Series? I'm thinking it was 3 to 5 years ago. Those kids would now be high school age and being from the Shivley area, most would attend PRP. I wonder how many of them actually play for PRP now. Chris Curley should be Mr. Baseball in the state of Kentucky! He's 9-0 on the mound, winning some huge tournament games AND he hit .500 plus with power! His team won the All A State and is poised to win the State Tournament. I can't think of anyone with better credentials than that!

Doesn't Beechwood loose eight seniors this year?

Do we know yet when the game with Beechwood will be? Nothing against the Hilltop, but after attending the 9th Region at the Freedom's park, I'd love to see the Semi-State held there. It is an AWESOME venue for high school baseball. The kids could play the semi state there and the finals at Applebee. It doesn't get any better than that!

Roesel intentionally walked Curley 4 times, both with runners on and with no runners on. It worked 3 out of the 4 times. My friend and I were really hoping Sawyer would get on to load the bases in the last inning because Curley was due up next. I would have loved to see if they would've walked him again in that situation!

Curley is the best player in the ninth and probably one of the best five players in the state. He's that good! It'll be interesting to see if he gets drafted or goes to college. I really think he will be drafted though. Another interesting point is that his grandfather played as high as AA I think, in the Cleveland Indians organization. Must be in the blood!

They may still be, but HC defeated them last week. Both teams looked strong and I think they have similar records with one or two losses each. Not real sure if any other JV team is strong this year.

I think this was the district seeding game which was scheduled for Monday but was postponed.

Harrison County has won 77.3% of its games under Coach Mac Whitaker. He is 773-227. That is truely amazing! I knew HC had a reputation as a great baseball program, but I didn't realize Mac Whitaker had a 77% winning percentage. I stand corrected and I thank you for enlighting me!

Speed is so overated in high school baseball! Throw strikes, mix speeds and have a decent fast ball to fall back on occasionally (80t). Ttat's all it takes. As far as velocity goes, anything in the 80's is smokin' it in high school baseball!
