They made that mistake in 1995 when they were the #1 team in the region and in the state at one point. They moved the CCH district game to Thomas More and the Colonels upset them. I seriously doubt they would consider ever giving up their chance to have the home court advantage again. I don't blame them one bit! It's probably not fair to the fans but in my mind, it's not fair to the fans to have CCH, HC & Holmes in the same district year in and year out either.

Regional final atmosphere for this game. Both teams red hot. Brain says CCH, gut says HC. Going with gut feeling! HC-51 CCH-50

Division 1- Mike Listerman (He has a lot of talent but he's still produced. Sometimes I really think it's tougher to coach a lot of talent because of egos, parents & playing time. He seems to keep everyone happy & still win) Division 2- Willie Schlarman & Erik Goetz ( Both have done tremendous jobs this year with better than average talent but not great talent. Probably the two best X's & O's guys around) Division 3- Tony Bacilgalupo ( Walked into a tough situation and has done a great job. I really think he'll be at one of the major schools one day. All he needs is experience & he'll get all he wants at SG)

I have seen all the top teams in the past three weeks or so and I would have to agree the best two teams in the region today are Holy Cross & CovCath. It's so crazy that they have to play the first game of the districts, but that's the way it's been for the past 40 years. CCH, HC & Holmes in the same district except for the few years Holmes went to the old 35th. It really "cheapens" the regional tournament by not having both these teams have the opportunity to be eligible. One of these three teams really needs to be back in the 34th district!

Congratulations to the Raiders! I did not give them much of a chance to win the region and they proved me dead wrong. They really earned their title by defeating Boone, Dixie, Holy Cross and CovCath!

Holy Cross has won 10 of it's last 11. They are hot. Almost shut out in the third quarter and still found a way to win. It's probably time to give Erik Goetz some credit in his first year for peaking his team at the right time. With HC coming on and Holmes struggling, it should be a great 35 district tournament.

HC had plenty of talent without Giwa & CCH had plenty of talent without Maile, etc, etc, etc. If all the kids who played JV or varsity as freshmen this year were to play freshman ball only, I'm sure the results would still be the same because all the teams have kids in this situation. As a side note, I would also say bringing these kids down HURTS your freshman team a lot of times vs helping it! Many times it changes the whole complexion of your team and kids that would develop don't now get that chance. This is really a non-issue in the freshman tournament!

Holy Cross also defeated Lexington Catholic this year. Don't count the 9th out!

CCH defeated Highlands by 6. CCH led 40-26 and Highlands cut it to 42-40. Highlands couldn't quite catch the Colonels at the end though. HC led Ryle most of the game but the Raiders pulled away at the end and the Indians self destructed. I heard Stovar hurt his ankle in the Conner game. If he's out, I'll take Highlands in a close one. I like HC in the nightcap by 5. Should be two great games!

That sets up a heck of a final four for Wednesday night! CCH, HC & Highlands are definitely the top three teams and have been all year long. Ryle earned their way in and could win this thing if they can knock off HC and beat CCH or Highlands after their war Wednesday. Should be two great games especially the CCH/Highlands affair. Either of these four teams can win it all, but I think CCH has to be a slight favorite, especially at home.

I know Highlands won and Holy Cross defeated St Henry 45-32. Does anyone know who won the Dixie/Ryle & CCH/Conner games?

Both teams looked good Wednesday. If NCC shoots the way they did the second half against Newport, they'll be tough to beat. Highlands really took it to a very good SK team. If NCC doesn't play great defense, Highlands will be tough to beat. Too close to call!

Holy Cross won tonight rather handily. HC will play CovCath in the districts, Beechwood will play Holmes.

Winners tonight in the first round were Dixie, Ryle, Holy Cross & St Henry. Next round matchups next Saturday: Dixie/Ryle & Holy Cross/St Henry. No real surprises although maybe Boone was slightly favored over Ryle. Ryle shot lights out early and Boone just couldn't quite catch up. Should be more great games Wednesday in the rest of the first round.

Agreed. I'd bet almost every team in the tournament has a freshman who's playing JV or varsity exculsively. I think I read somewhere that Lloyd has 5!
