Good chance but not a shoo-in like other years have been. After their first round bye, they'll have a fairly easy game vs the winner of Conner/Scott.Then they will meet either Newport, NCC,Highlands or Simon Kenton.They didn't play Newport this year, they beat NCC by 17, lost to Highlands in OT by 1 and beat Simon Kenton in OT. Either of these four teams will be a very tough game. In the championship they'll probably play HC, St Henry or Boone. They beat both HC & St Henry in the regular season and lost to Boone Co. They are probably the favorite especially at home, but it would be a slight favorite this year!

I've seen every team in the tournament this year and can honestly say it's wide open. There's an argument for almost every team. Most overall talent in a freshman class I've seen in a long while. Should be a great tournament to watch. Wish I knew all the game times. Looked on CCH website, but couldn't find them. I'd say that any one of these eight teams could win it and not be considered an upset: CCH, HC, Highlands, St. Henry, Boone Co, Dixie,Simon Kenton & Newport.

9th Region Freshman tournament starts Saturday @ CovCath. Should be a great tournament again this year. CovCath does an excellent job with this tourney! Lots of very good freshman teams this year, definetely an up year. Upper bracket matchups: Scott/Conner (winner to play CCH), Newport/NCC & Highlands/Simon Kenton. Lower bracket matchups: St Henry/Holmes, Holy Cross/Beechwood, Boone Co/Ryle & Dixie/LLoyd.

I agree that there is probably a 95% chance that one of these three will win the region. However, I've seen it so many times before where a lesser team could get a great draw and sneak up on one of the favorites. If those three end up in the same bracket somehow, that would be two tough games to get to the finals with the semifinal having the feel of the championship game. After that physically and mentally draining game the lesser team can steal the title! Probably won't happen, but never say never. That's what makes basketball great!

I agree too. I don't blame the officials though, they're not used to working with 3 all the time. I prefer 2, but I would have no problem with 3 officials if it was EVERY game!

Both the boys and girls in the 9th had three this year.

I guess I could accept the three official concept better if it were used for EVERY game. The players would be used to it and wouldn't commit the fouls that are caught by the extra set of eyes. The problem is using two officials at some games and three at others. The KHSAA needs to be consistent, either two or three for every game, not just certain ones. The players would adapt to the three official game and it wouldn't be a free throw shooting contest.

After watching the Girl's & Boy's All A tournaments these past two weeks, I can say I'm sick of games with three officials. Why do we need three? It's another set of eyes to call more fouls and other infractions that otherwise wouldn't be called. The game becomes all about the officials instead of the players. Keep two officials & let the kids play! Why did we ever start having three anyway?

Yes Yes Yes As long as they are eligible they should not be penalized because they played at a higher level during the season. However, I don't think a coach should play a kid in the freshman/jv tournament who didn't play with them all year. I wouldn't even want them to play for me if I was coaching no matter how much talent they had. I've seen it so many times in the past. Most of the time it just screws everything up and you end up losing. It screws up your team chemistry, and makes the rest of the team mad who've been busting their butts on that team all year. So my answer is, yes, the kid should be allowed to play, but the head coach of the program should never let it happen!

Predictions! Should be a barnburner with HC & NCC. I like HC to prevail pulling away at the end 66-59 for a clean sweep boys/girls All A title.

I pretty much agree with you, that's why I said "with a little luck", such as CCH not being at full strength or foul trouble, etc. I also agree that HC is capable of defeating either CCH or Holmes on their floor. I just think the best match-ups for a possible upset would be HC/Holmes & Beechwood/CCH.

I'd like to see HC play Holmes & Beechwood play CCH in the districts. Both these games would pit neighborhood rivals where all the kids know each other so well. Yes, Holmes & CCH will probably prevail, but I wouldn't count HC or Beechwood out this year. HC has proven in the past that it can beat Holmes in tournament games when Holmes is favored (ask Mike Flynn). Also, the games are at HC this year. Beechwood has already proven it can play CCH tough and with a little luck, anything can happen. The odds are in Holmes & CCH's favor but I would not be shocked at all to see one of them knocked off. Looking forward to watching a great district!

Great game to watch. It'll be a war on Feb 8 at Beechwood when the district seeding game is played! HC up 40-31 and Beechies go on a 13-1 run to make a game of it. Beechwood proved they have other players besides Romes who can shoot the ball. Beechwood has played HC, CCH, Holmes & South Laurel tough. They could be a real sleeper in the regional if they can get out of the toughest district in NoKY.

I think they beat University Heights in the final game.

I had HC as a slight favorite to win earlier, but after Beechwood's showings against CCH, South Laurel & Holmes, I'd have to make them a slight favorite even though they lost those games.

HC is also 12-4. Losses to Newport, CovCath,Highlands & NCC.

Yes, HC beat NCC last week. I think it was less than a 10 point margin.

Holy Cross has to be the slight favorite. Beechwood could be the "surprise" team even though I wouldn't be too surprised this year. NEVER count out St. Henry in the All A!New Cath is also surely capable. I'm confident one of these four will prevail. Any other winner I would consider an upset.

Girl's game was at All A tourney. Obviously, no one knew ahead of time when they would play.

I was referring to the number of free throws vs the percentage. While you're correct CCH missed more free throws (10 vs 5), they also made more (19 vs 11). That's 8 more points from the line, thus my statement that it was the difference in the game!

Great game to watch! Biggest lead by either team was 7 points I believe. When HC got up 7 in the 3rd quarter they just couldn't put CCH away. Both teams played good defense and played hard. What more could a fan want? Difference in the game came down to free throws. CCH got to the line a little more and took advantage, especially down the stretch when they needed to. I was really surprised Tierney ended up with 20 points. All I remembered were his missed free throws (6). I'd bet he's never missed 6 in a game before. Jacobs & Steenken were both pretty much shut down by good defense. Hope they meet again in the districts. It'll be another great game I think!

Corbin is the best I've seen, but I surely haven't seen them all! St. Henry is by far the tops in NoKy!

There will not be any varsity games at the Rosedale complex unless the adjancent trailer park can be purchased. Without that property, there is not enough room for stands and not enough parking.
