Playing in Freshmen, or JV Tournaments

Featured Replies

I was wondering about the following:

Should freshmen who "start/play" either JV on a "regular" basic or even "start/play" Varsity, play in the freshmen tournament?

Should sophomores who "start/play" on a "regular" basic on the Varsity be allowed to play in the JV tournament?

Finally should juniors be allowed to play in the JV tournament at all?

Personally I think that a team should always play the kid up and not down to improve the player and also it isn't fair to take a spot away from the kid who played on the team all year long just to win a tournament. Juniors if they don't "start/play" on the Varsity on a regular basic I am okay with, but if they even sub on the Varstiy on a "regular basic" no way should they be playing......

Yes

Yes

As long as they are eligible they should not be penalized because they played at a higher level during the season. However, I don't think a coach should play a kid in the freshman/jv tournament who didn't play with them all year. I wouldn't even want them to play for me if I was coaching no matter how much talent they had. I've seen it so many times in the past. Most of the time it just screws everything up and you end up losing. It screws up your team chemistry, and makes the rest of the team mad who've been busting their butts on that team all year.

So my answer is, yes, the kid should be allowed to play, but the head coach of the program should never let it happen!
