ColonelCrazy Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Solid win for the Colonels, at Holy Cross. Tierney had 20 for Covington Catholic. Ryan for HC hit a shot, with his foot on the line late in the game...had it been a 3, HC would have cut it to a 1 possession ballgame with under 20 seconds to go.
BGGreen Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 CovCath shows they can win without a big offensive game from TJ. Good win for CCH!!
ColonelCrazy Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 HC 19-41 from the field. 11-15 from the stripe. Dane Lantry, Steenken & Ryan all had 10 points. Steenken was 1-10 from the field, though. Ryan Busse had 8 points, 7 boards, 5 assists. Corey Sorrell had 3 points, for the Indians. For Covington Catholic... 20-43 from the field, 3-8 from 3-point range. 19-29 from the charity stripe. 5 offensive rebounds 19 defensive rebounds 12 assists to 11 turnovers Tierney (6-13 from the field, 6-12 from the line) for 20 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists. Danny Noll had 12 points, 5 rebounds & 1 assist. Kurt Bovard (3-6 from field) for 10 points, 1 rebound & 2 assists...0 turnovers Billy Schult had 7 points but only 2 rebounds. Todd Jacobs was 2-8 from the field, for only 5 points. Mike Young had 5 points, 6 rebounds & 2 assists.

ColonelCrazy Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 Big 3rd quarter for Holy Cross, as they went on a 20-6 run.
Theoldguy Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 The play of the game had to be Kirk Bovard making a half court shot to end the first quarter. Its hard to believe that the Colonels won with TJ only scoring 5 points, and that Kirk had zero turnovers.
BigStud Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 But anyway HC did the job on Jacobs and shut him down. Tierney did what he had to do he stepped up, if he didn't HC wins. I can't wait till the district I have a feeling these two will be playing in the first round on HC floor.

CCH won but got jobbed on home floor got an intentional foul and 2 T's that gave the game to CCH. 9 point swing late in game.

I was wondering players. HC just needs to get over the hump of beating CCH in a close game. Two years in a row HC had a shot to beat CCH. Maybe they can right it in districts.
cshs81 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Interested to hear the different viewpoints, from cshs81, HSSB & BigStud... Word around Latonia was that BigStud was flashing his Notre Dame Irish gear tonight. We'll have to see if that's true.
Latch Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I was there for both games. JV was a great game until a referee blew a charging call with a minute left. That is why the refs are doing a JV game, there not that good! Varsity was a great game also, CCH's defense is top notch. HC had a lot of turnovers because of their ball pressure. Both teams shot the ball good and hustled the whole game. Jacobs was being pressured the most and Tierney stepped his game up and played a heck of a game. If CCH & HC happens to get a 2 & 3 seed for districts it could be anybodys game. That's a big "if" because Beechwood is no pushover this year.
cshs81 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Glass half full view for HC: Moved the ball well, scrapped the entire evening, no quit, could have folded tent down 7 at halftime but quickly turned it into a 7 point 3rd qtr lead, took TJ out of the game and made it a 4-on-4 contest, shot FTs extremely well. Glass half empty view for HC: Had a 7 point lead with the ball with about 2 minutes left in the 3rd. 2 minutes later, Landrum tied the game with an 'and 1' at the buzzer. Took one of the top offensive players in the 9th completely out of the game yet still could not get it done. Zero rebounding. I'd be surprised if they had more than 2 or 3 offensive rebounds. Fair amount of turnovers that hurt.
cshs81 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I've watched HC 3 times now this year. This was by far the best they've played. IMO they have to get Eifert and Scruggs in at the same time. Eifert played well in his varsity minutes. Without him, HC has to make a high percentage of outside shots because they are NOT getting an offensive rebound. What's keeping this guy off the floor?
cshs81 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I was very impressed with Busse. HC was at its best with the ball in his hands. The other guards cannot penetrate like he does and he was the best at finding the open man when he penetrated.
