I was there for both games. JV was a great game until a referee blew a charging call with a minute left. That is why the refs are doing a JV game, there not that good!

Look, on a tossup block/charge call, half the stands are going to say it was terrible and the other half are going to say "great call". Sometimes the benefit of the doubt goes to the defender when the offensive player is out of control. That may have been the case here.

 

The HC coaching staff lost control of themselves from that point on. It was not a banner night for them to say the least. Give your boys a chance to stay in the game vs trying to show how mad you can get and how hard you can throw your clipboard. Very disappointing even if it WAS a bad call.

Word around Latonia was that BigStud was flashing his Notre Dame Irish gear tonight. We'll have to see if that's true.

Eifert is developing his game on JV, by the end of the season he will be playing a lot more minutes that will really help them in District play. I was really impressed with his play tonight.

 

Busse played good and seemed like he was the only guard that could handle their ball pressure. I'm glad he also seems more mature with not arguing with the refs like he has in the past. He's HC's best player imo.

Your right, they should have just let it go and let the game continue. That was a five point swing. IF the ref calls a block and Giwa makes the free throw, it's a tie game. But, the Ref called a block and a tech, CCH made both free throws and HC was down five.

 

The worse call was the intentional foul on Sorrell, am I right on that one?

Great game to watch! Biggest lead by either team was 7 points I believe. When HC got up 7 in the 3rd quarter they just couldn't put CCH away. Both teams played good defense and played hard. What more could a fan want? Difference in the game came down to free throws. CCH got to the line a little more and took advantage, especially down the stretch when they needed to. I was really surprised Tierney ended up with 20 points. All I remembered were his missed free throws (6). I'd bet he's never missed 6 in a game before. Jacobs & Steenken were both pretty much shut down by good defense. Hope they meet again in the districts. It'll be another great game I think!

Good to see the Colonels can win without TJ putting up 20. Just as a note, Theoldguy, it's Kurt Bovard, not Kirk. Glad to hear he hit a big shot.

DNoll had a kind of coming out party in NKY. He was the reason that HC could not apply the perimeter pressure that they had used in the 1st half.

 

CovCath gets two And-1's from the bench (Noll and Landrum) to tie it up at the end of the 3rd quarter.

 

CovCath played their most complete game of the year, and if Todd can put up his numbers with everyone else playing like this then this team will be crowned 9th region champions IMO. Of course they aren't their yet.

That is true but if you don't place most of your focus on TJ as HC did, he will put up great numbers because he is such a prolific scorer. Even with the athletes that Holmes has.

Wrong Steenken was fouled on I believe 5 of those misses not to mention 2 no calls when he was shooting 3's. He was the reason HC stayed in this one. His ability to handle the ball, penetrate, and pass kept HC in it. I would have liked to have seen him score more though. The biggest stat that hurt HC was turnovers, I wouldnt be surprised to see that number in the 20's.

The reason that they stayed in the game was everyone else's ability to knock down the open three's.

1. By definition, its an intentional foul if the defender is not making a play for the ball. The HC defender came up to foul but instead of slapping the arm or the ball , he wrapped both arms around the offensive player. So by defintion, it was intentional.

 

2. The play the defender made is not called an intentional foul 99.9% of the time.

Difference in the game came down to free throws. !

 

Lung - CCH missed a lot of FTs in the 2nd half. HC hardly missed. The FT advantage definitely went to HC. I'm not sure if Steenken's even touched the rim. That's a nice stroke.
