Is your comment about the officials being JV officials because they are not good enough to be varsity officials? I find it ironic that this was about a call in the JV game, in which the coaches are JV coaches because they are not good enough yet to be varsity coaches. Or maybe they just act childish enough that the HS AD won't give them a varsity gig.

There is not a ref in the world that would say he gets every call right.

 

The coach didn't get the techicals because he disagreed with the call. Every coach disagrees with a call on occasion and the officials tolerate thier disagreement.

 

The coach got the technical because of the childish temper tantrum he threw. That type of behavior out of a 2nd grader at Holy Cross is not tolerated at school and would result in him being put in "timeout". :cry: :cry:

 

Amazing that we are disciplining a grown man for the same offense as a 7 year old.

 

As an official, I can tell you that throwing a clipboard is going to get you a "T" (and I don't mean... "Timeout") on every occasion, no matter how bad the call.

 

I guarantee that in the locker room, that coach felt pretty silly for cost them the opportunity and probably needs to apologize to his team.

If there is one thing HC coaches are known for that is emotional tyraids. Why change a tradition . Maybe at that point the coaches felt a point needed to be proven. I think these are the two premeir JV teams in the 9th and probably will met up in the JV tourney at the end of the year.

Yes the intentional foul might have been a bad call, but it probably doesn't get called if the coach and his assistants let the blocking call go and don't make a scene of things. That just made it worse.

 

If I was a HC JV player I'd be really ticked off at my coach if we had a legit shot to beat CCH and he cost us the game.

I think HC jv team was the better team. But I don't think your point if they wouldn't have made a big deal about the block it wouldn't have been called. If the ref made the call on a vendetta that is a problem.

 

But I no doubt they probably went to far. But you have coached as have I, we all have been there. But you learn to control it. I think I've been known to break a clipboard or two.

I'm not saying there was a vendetta for the call. What I mean is, at that point the coaches had made the refs feel like the close game was starting to get out of hand. Out of THEIR control. It wasn't intentional, possibly a little agressive.

I agree with NKYBOY. The fuss that was made over the block/charge and the technicals that the coaches earned afterward changed the focus of the officials. The coaches decided the winner with 1 minute remaining and priority #1 at that point became game control and making sure nobody got hurt.

 

I didn't have a great view of the intentional foul but it looked to me like the defender wrapped both arms around the player and grabbed him. That's a pretty easy intentional foul call, especially under the circumstances brought about by the HC bench. This appeared to be a game management call not a vendetta call.

Good to see the Colonels can win without TJ putting up 20. Just as a note, Theoldguy, it's Kurt Bovard, not Kirk. Glad to hear he hit a big shot.

When looking at the stats of the game his shooting percentage from the floor just jumped out at me. What I reported was what he shot from the floor and that was 1 for 10. Timmy getting hurt, and CovCath not playing well when he was out, and or just getting back into the swing of things, was just not an accident. Timmy did not play out of his mind. But he is no way a 20ppg player. But he did what he had to do to win. Thats what good players do.

 

I think its hard to make a statement like Porter did. I doubt HC hold Jacobs to 5 points again if they meet each other again. I also doubt Steeken goes 1-10 from the field. I think if these teams play each other 10 times there are different out comes and different scenarios on how they get their each time.

I tell you what Timmy is a warrior and Tim could score with the best of them if the offense didn't depend on him to create for others and also since I don't think that he has fully regained his 3 point shot since coming back from the injury.

No doubt Tim is the clear cut leader of that team! I'm by no means bashing him he's a great player and a natural leader. However, a couple of the shots he got to fall last night coupled with getting a break here and there just wouldnt happen again.

I also agree that he had his best shooting night since his return. But he sure couldn't catch a break on his free throws.

For those of us that have watched Tim more than you have this year, we would quickly tell you that while Tim played well, he can play better. If you make it a 4-on-4 game and open up more space, you're in trouble with him.

Tim played a good game. He told me he knew he was going to have to step up because they were going to try to shut down Todd and that he did. At first he worried me and I thought he might be trying to force things. When he calmed down the game came to him and he did very well. He struggled at the FT line but I don't think thats going to become a problem, just couldn't find his stoke. He'll be fine there.

 

Did anybody else's heart stop when Tim took a couple hard spills? They can't afford to lose him to injury again.
