Doc Morris Tournament (wooden bats used only in these games)

 

CovCath gives up 5 unearned runs to the Indians in the bottom of the second inning to give this game away. The reason HC won was they didn't make as many errors and executed when they had to when out on the field. CovCath was the better team at the plate but not on the defense side of the field.

 

It is amazing to see how the batters who are used to hitting the ball with their aluminum bats having to swing with wood and seeing it not jump off their bats. Quite a few balls that CovCath hit, if done so with aluminum, would have been doubles or maybe off the wall, but with the wooden bats, they were just routine fly balls.

 

CovCath if they expect to do anything the rest of the season needs to tighten up their infield defense. Not sure what the CovCath coach is going to do, but he needs to do it fast, because the infield play is just killing the Colonels this season.....

This aught to be a fun tourny.

And the Colonels play depressed me, as well as their Coach today. My guess is that the team was depressed as well with their effort, or they shouldn't be playing with the name CovCath on their uniforms.

 

I have seen all three CovCath losses this year, and neither team (Dixie or Cov Holy Cross) has beaten CovCath. The only team that has beaten CovCath so far this season is CovCath.....but if they continue to play defense the way they did in those three games, this season will end much to early........

/QUOTE Defense is as important as offense in baseball, maybe more! If a team does poorly defensively, it doesn't mean they "gave the game away". Basically, it means the opposing team outplayed them. Give credit where credit is due Old Guy. The Indians made the plays today and the Colonels didn't. It's one game! It doesn't mean HC is a better team than CCH, just better today. Baseball is different than basketball or most other sports for that matter. If these teams played ten times, CCH would probably win 7 games. If a major league team wins 70% of their games, they win the World Series hands down! HC was the better team today, but CCH is probably the better team overall. I didn't see the Dixie/CCH games, but I'm sure it probably was a similar situation. Awesome baseball teams aren't going to win more than 70% of their games. I sure wouldn't rag on a coach with the success that CCH's coach has had over the years. It's one game. They'll be fine!

That is truely amazing! I knew HC had a reputation as a great baseball program, but I didn't realize Mac Whitaker had a 77% winning percentage. I stand corrected and I thank you for enlighting me!

I agree with you IronLung. You can't take anything away from Ryan Busse. He pitched a great game today and his team made the plays to back him up.
