I don't think LCA is close to being able to reload after their losses from last year. This should be a Mercer blowout. I'll be rooting for the Eagles anyway.

I can remember three Cardinals getting on base. Twice by being hit by a pitch and one was walked. All three were doubled out by the next batter. Very few Cardinal hits made it to the outfield. Caoch Martin of LexCath managed his pitchers very well, getting 4 innings from the starter, Champa, two innings from Fahs, and the final from Maronde. I think this kept the SL bats off balance by changing pitchers just as they were about to get adjusted to the previous pitcher.

If coach Letton wants to continue the offensive style of his predecessor, Bob Sphire, (and why wouldn't he), than I suspect Dusty would have learned something about the system after having played for Sphire with the Horsemen. Who else would have been as well qualified? Dusty has managed to keep a positive attitude about Lexington despite the treatment he received by Mumme so, he also seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I couldn't be more pleased with the choice.

I'd just as soon keep it at Papa John's especially since the annual T-X 4A final provides the majority of income from the finals. Regarding the geography issue, it's probably just as easy to get to Commonwealth from Western Ky as it is to PJCS when you consider roads and traffic. I think there are more people in Eastern Ky, than Western Ky also, so Commonwealth would be best for the greatest number of out state visitors. If you consider the Louisville population though, the best site is PJCS. Keep it where it is. Besides, it's the only reason I ever get to go to Louisville.

The final game is being broadcast live on UPN cable five in Lexington. I imagine it will be on TV elsewhere also. Probably on the same stations that broadcast the boys championship last Sat.

Scott County had a tough road in the district and region and got to the finals in a remarkable run. The 11th was ultracompetitive this year and any of ten teams could have won it with luck and/or the right draw. Madison Central had the right draw and a bit of luck in the fourth quarter last night. Scott County had a horrible draw in getting to the finals and I suspect fatigue was a factor in their losing. If the 11th played a home and home schedule to determine the representative to the Sweet Sixteen, I'm confident Scott County would be playing next thursday night. That's the great thing about the one state champion format with all teams being eligible, almost anybody can win. Good luck to Madison Central, represent the 11th well!

Scott County has played some outstanding basketball late in the season. They killed Catholic with their rebounding tonight. Haddix was superb and I wish him well at the next level. Is Walls a senior? How about Mackey? LexCath should be all riight next year with the core of Novosel, Newton, Stewart, Tribble, and Botkin all returning for several years. Nothing seemed to work for Catholic tonight and it was because of Scott County and their hard-nosed defense. Good luck tomorrow and beyond.

Maybe Pendleton this year because Mason has had a bad year by their standards. Not close in a typical year however, Mason has one of the best followings in the state.

Backing up my comment about coaching is obviously not supportable considering coach Hicks long history. The cohesiveness coach Salsman has instilled in the LexCath team when very little was expected of them is the reason for my statement. Hicks has kept SC on top for years and has built one of the best programs in the state. I wouldn't trade coaches, however.

I think LexCath will play well against Scott County. I'm more concerned how they will do the next game if they should happen to win. As for losing Reid Brown, i thought LexCath was the best team in the region when he went down. There isn't a better interior player in the state that I've seen. Fortunately he went down early enough that the team has had time to reform again. I give Scott County the slightest edge in talent and LexCath an edge in coaching. The team that adjusts to the officiating first will have a big advantage. I think most Catholic fans like having Scoot County in the 11th region, I know I do, win or lose.

I don't want to take anything away from Novosel, he played great in the second half. He always plays great so I overlook him sometimes. Burke was a steadying influence in the first half when Novosel and company couldn't seem to make a layup, and the whole team picked up their intensity afterwards. I don't think we would have won without Burke either. He does the little things like make the exceptional pass or get the tough rebound that seems to win games for you. Burke plays with a reckless abandon that a team like Catholic needs to win against the likes of Scott County.

I thought LexCath looked lethargic tonight especially early. FC was more intense and it showed when they were assessed the first seven fouls before Catholic had one. Don't think I've seen that before. Justin Burke gets my MVP award for the way he led the Knights on the defensive end and the boards. He's gone from being a role player to a team leader. I don't think we'll need to worry about intensity against Scott County. The team that plays hardest will win that one I think.

After who Scott County has played and will play to win the region, the Sweet Sixteen will seem anticlimatic.

The 2000 team was a product of the feeder system and possibly Catholics best team ever. They lost to Antoine Barbour and company in the finals. Also Catholic was a very small school until they instituted the football program 15 years ago. Lafayette has a glorious history and seems to have excellent talent every year but only one championship 2001, since the 70's. Henry Clay had a championship in 83, were there others? In any case it's a little premature to be talking about the feeders at this point in the playoffs. Granted, they do provide a steady stream of talent which assures the continuing success of the program.
