LexCath 5 South Laurel 0

In the first quarterfinal game at Applebee's Park in Lexington, the Knights got a combined no-hitter from Michael Champa, Michael Fahs and Nick Maronde. The Cardinals didn't get a runner past second, and the Knights were able to take advantage of Cardinal fielding miscues in the fourth and fifth inning to get their runs.

Didn't South Laurel beat the Knights earlier in the year? What happened to the Cards' bats?

I can remember three Cardinals getting on base. Twice by being hit by a pitch and one was walked. All three were doubled out by the next batter. Very few Cardinal hits made it to the outfield. Caoch Martin of LexCath managed his pitchers very well, getting 4 innings from the starter, Champa, two innings from Fahs, and the final from Maronde. I think this kept the SL bats off balance by changing pitchers just as they were about to get adjusted to the previous pitcher.

Any word on the late game?

Great season for South Laurel. Lex Cath's pitching was excellent and their fielders made the plays they had to make. Impressive win to get a no-no in the elite 8 for the Knights!

Congraudulations to the Knights. With the pitching staff they will be hard to handle. Michael Fahs is one of the most underated pitchers in the state. Lipscomb University has found a diamond in the rough with this kid

Who pitched for the Cardinals

The Smith kid pitched for SL.

They actually had another get on by way of an error.

LexCath looked sharp and poised in this one, and them having already seen Smith once before helped when the opportunity innings came (4th and 5th). Smith pitched pretty well all things being equal. He got hurt a bit by errors in the fourth and fifth, and the Knights were able to get the big hit at the opportune time. Three of LexCath's five runs were earned.

The LexCath pitchers did a great job keeping SL off-balance -- SL hit only two balls out of the infield.

St. X beat Daviess County 3-2.

Great season for South Laurel and good luck to Lexington Catholic.
