Not sure if the district is the same deal as the Region Tournament or not. Original plan was for only the finals to be played at BOK, but there may have been some backlash from Beechwood and Holy Cross. Unless a ridiculous crowd attends Saturday night, not sure much money will be made on this. Best bet would have been to move district to Holmes, like Holy Cross did last year as host.

Decisions have already been made and should be released and possibly by tomorrow. Hearing that Highlands and Cov. Cath. to 5A and some rumblings of Cooper and Conner making jump to 6A.

From what I understand is that all that you have to do is ask the BOK. It is a separate entity from NKU, from what I understand and you would be surprised at what you can get done by asking the BOK. Holmes AD Stan Steidel was huge in getting the doubleheader at the BOK a few weeks ago and also in getting the 35th District moved up there.

Clyde, I agree with your assessment and Cooper's defense separates them from the rest. Boone is the weakest of the bunch because I think they have the weakest overall guards. Dixie has Hatton, who can go off at any given time, but will they play enough defense to make a run. Looking at scores, I think allowing Holy Cross to hang around and score a fair mount of points was a warning shot for Dixie.

How wide open is the 16th Region this year? It seems like 6 or 7 teams can win in Morehead.

Holmes seems to be in a little bit of a funk here lately and it seems that their poor execution against zone defense is partly a culprit. They were faring just fine against NCC, until the Breds went zone and it was all downhill after that. McClendon had been shooting it fairly well through the middle part of the year but now has not shot it real well as of late. Harrison County packed a 2-3 zone in tonight and Holmes shot pretty poorly except for their late run in the third quarter. It will be interesting to see how they play the rest of the week in games they should be favored to win and if those teams play zone.

I'd say Ruthsatz. He has a consistent and strong senior season.

Both of these teams are looking for some consistency. I would imagine its difficult especially when Dixie is allowed to play and these two schools are not. Simon has a chance in the 8th, in my opinion, but are going to have to get something going and with Ballard and CovCath lurking it will be tough. Scott still has a big seed game with Brossart left which was cancelled on Friday.

From what I heard today there was a parent of a Holmes player involved in an accident prior to the Holmes game. The story that I heard was that the accident occurred on Johns Hill Rd and their car lost control and hit a guard rail and when they got out to inspect it, another car hit their car and knocked them over the guard rail. I do not know the condition, but that is what was passed along.

The complexion changed once NCC went to the zone. I think they were up one and Holmes had a turnover and a missed layup and lead went to 5 or 6, forcing a timeout, then afterwards they come out of timeout with 6 players and 2 free throws, and a basket off the ensuing possession and the game is at 9 or 10 points. Holmes made a run to get it to 8 but McClendon's technical erased any last chance for Holmes. NCC is just too big and too balanced and in my opinion are a legit threat to win state. If they don't win the region it will be an upset. CovCath may have the best shot because I think they have a little more balanced scoring than what Holmes can offer up. Coach Booher got a technical tonight and it was aimed at the short blonde haired official who he had a beef with all night. Impressive crowd considering the conditions and it was nice to see the CovCath radio crew stay around for the broadcast and see their assistant coach getting all of NCC's play calls as he did the color commentary.

I have a child who attends Ryle and in the future I will have two more that go through Ryle. My child participates in Olympic style sports and is not really reliant on generating revenue. With that being said, for those that think some of these Olympic sports are more individual and not team are kidding themselves. For one, I believe you would be hard pressed to find a school that fields the numbers for Olympic style sports that Ryle does. We are talking over 50 girls in cross country for the girls XC team roughly 30 for the boys. Then you have close to 150 for the track teams combined. That takes a lot of coordinating and coaching. Coach Wiehbrink and Coach Deaton do a tremendous job with those teams. In my dealings, with coaches and observing their interaction with administration, I feel that the administration is very hands off and lets the coaches do their jobs. Now it is not the dog eat dog world of generating revenue like football is but there are a lot of things to consider. Football in Boone County is a different animal. This is just my opinion and I may be totally off base...but I think I have a good eye for what is good coaching and something that is in place for the benefit of kids and an eye for something that is built for something else other than the benefit of kids or putting kids and development first. The Boone County Pee Wee Football League to me is a racket or it once was when I participated there years ago. That is a program that is seemingly built to make a profit and when you are hellbent on making profits you are going to bring in as many people to help and raise those funds. This brings in people to coach that probably aren't the best coaches and then they go forth and think their opinion/voice is of much more value because they are coaching. I may be totally off base on this and may get hammered for this opinion, but it is just that. I have been removed for a while from the BCPWFL, but at that time I was participating as a volunteer there, they were bleeding money and I couldn't see how that was possible. Then they started a middle school league between the schools so I am not real sure how that has impacted BCPWFL or if it has led to many more voices to be heard regarding football in Boone County, and in particular Ryle. From what I understand, Coach Warner was not a teacher and was a para professional. It has to be very hard for one not to be in the hallways everyday interacting with kids and staff and run a organized program top to bottom and not be in a teaching type position at the school you are coaching at...especially one that is high profile like the Ryle job is. I would think this played a bigger part in the parting of ways than many of the conspiracies that people have thrown out there. In then end, administration has to make decisions on what is best for kids. Maybe Ryle was looking for a certain personality. Someone who was energetic and would promote the program and school. I don't know anyone personally associated with the football program at Ryle, but maybe Coach Woolf didn't have the certain qualities in what they were looking for in their next head coach. I am not knocking the decision in any way or saying that Coach Woolf doesn't possess those qualities, but I think too many people are reading into this and trying to make things out to be different than from what they really are.

Has any other team in Northern Kentucky played fewer home games than Scott this year? This was only something like their 5th home game of the year. Scott has a solid group of underclassman.

I think Mason has a better than 50-50 chance of winning the 10th. If the region is at the Fieldhouse, I really like their chances. Is it being held there or at Montgomery? Montgomery seemed like the big favorite but have been up and down lately.

I have seen them twice and they run the open post. It would be a fun offense to play especially if you like getting shots and shooting threes. They don't have any size and they really struggle at finishing at the basket or manning the glass on either end. Bezold is a decent player, not real quick, but can bring 4's and 5's away from the basket and shoot with range. He would be an ideal pick and pop player.

I still think that the Pioneers can make a run in the 8th Region.

The Bluebirds played well and were ready. Holmes will throw in a clunker or two but games like this in February are not that uncommon. You see it all over the region, with possibly the exception of NCC who is just rolling. Cov. Cath. labored through their game against Ryle and so forth. For Holmes to be successful Chames has to be ready to play from the tip and that can't afford their second scoring option to be in foul trouble like McClendon was tonight.

How bad are the roads in Jefferson County? I hear that they are pretty clear. I had a friend just go from Oldham County to New Albany, IN in less than 30 minutes.

Weather has created a lot of issues with scheduling and unfortunately it forced postponement of the Joe B Hall Classic. With teams coming as far as Hopkinsville they had to make a call. It probably was the right call. From what I understand, is that the two dates that were looked at were the 9th and 16th of February. Both of those are on Sundays and with cancellations and seed games to be made up, it is too tight a window to squeeze in. I believe Holmes and Trinity both have standing invites to return to the Joe B Hall Classic next year.

I was originally interpreting your comment along the lines of hearing fans calling for a technical on such attempts at blocking shots. You are correct that there is no goal tend call on that. Its to an advantage of the defense to attempt to block a shot at rim by hitting the backboard in which will create a scenario of not knocking the ball off the rim. Cooper has those baskets with a single support and any action on the board is going to cause the entire basket to swivel. I thought Housley's defense on McNeil was strong last night particularly in the second half. That was my first time in Cooper's gym. It is a really clean facility but the lights are pretty dim for such a big place. Why do they not open up the second level bleachers?

What the announcers may be alluding to is that when the Cooper players smacked the backboard going for the block it caused the basket to move. If ball is on the rim and the entire basket and backboard is moving it should be a goal tend, in my opinion. That happened at least two times this evening and maybe three times. I equate it to grabbing the rim when ball is near hoop or grabbing the net with ball on rim. The basket supports with those long extensions are not real stable and have a lot of wiggle to them. Glover was absolutely huge for tonight and really gave Holmes a lift. Chames was also big as well. Cooper plays tight stingy man to man defense but Holmes ran some dribble motion and Chames was able to attack the basket from the perimeter a few times. Holmes has a tough game Tuesday night versus Mason County.

Holmes is playing entirely different on both ends of the floor when you compare this year to last year and essentially have four new starters with the exception of Kilburn. The biggest difference is on defense which is where they run and jump but they are also different on the offensive end as well.

CCH was very impressive. Going into the game I was curious to see how CCH had adjusted to the graduation of Frederick and Pauley. They have seemed to have filled it well and they are deep. They did a nice job of beating Holmes down the floor in transition that led to easy scoring opportunities. Holmes for the first time this year that I have seen them play showed that they haven't quite filled to void of the graduated senior trio of Coston, Palmer and Englemon. They miss the scoring threats of Palmer and Coston and miss Englemon's toughness inside. Bolden has got to look to distribute a little more and trust he teammates by passing the ball. He has an uncanny knack of making difficult shots but making an extra pass would and could open a few more lanes for him. Are the districts at CCH this year or are they going to move it to another venue?

Congrats to the Lady Bulldogs on the win. Coach Perkins has the girls playing an exciting brand of basketball and they are really young as well. They are a fun team to watch. They led Holy Cross the entire game last Saturday night, but lost it in the last minute. I think this is the first time that they have beaten Notre Dame in a long time.

Hopefully this attempt to parse the quote that I disagreed with appears correctly. My point may have gotten lost in the overall gist of your comments. I just beg to differ with your assessment and pretty much your allusion to doing it the "right way versus the wrong way". I say this because despite their run of success and particularly against CovCath, you want to talk about disciplined approaches. Essentially, you are saying Holmes won despite being not being disciplined. You say how much better could the be if they ran sets. Coach Henley's team makes multiple trips to the Sweet 16 Elite 8, Runner Up and then State Champions, but they were not disciplined. I would suggest to you that his formula was pretty good. Coach Booher's team runs the gauntlet of NCC, Cooper and CovCath and then takes eventual State Champs into OT in the Elite Eight. I guess if they ran some Flex, Carolina Motion , Open Post, Four Out and One in they would be a better team and had more success. If I recall correctly, Holmes has had a string of victories over CovCath until the district game last year. I guess they did something right with their approach. Then again, may be you take your personnel and find a system that fits their skill sets. CovCath was very good last night and frankly they probably are the better team this year, but for a while now CovCath has had a front row seat in how you win games and region championships.

I guess Coach Booher and Coach Henley have all of a sudden taken "dumb pills"? I mean whatever they have done in the past was successful and they have the hardware to prove it. Both did it multiple times and frankly not many can say that they have accomplished what these coaches have done. I just don't think that they just rolled the balls out there and said go get'm. You don't think they run plays? Ball screening is pretty much the go to offense at the college and pro levels. Holmes does a lot of that, but to say they do not run sets is not true. Bobby Knight is considered one of the greatest coaches of all time. What kind of sets did he run? None! He ran a perpetual motion that was dictated off player movement. I'm not quite following some of these posts but there is seemingly some thought that one team plays basketball the right way and the other team doesn't? CovCath is the better team and they played very well and won. Holmes didn't play well and part of that was due to the play of the Colonels. This was one game and the death of Coach Booher/Coach Henley's philosophy has been greatly exaggerated.
