Mason County 55 George Rogers Clark 44

Featured Replies

Again GRC played well for 3 quarters. Halftime was 30-26 and end of 3rd 46-39 Mason Co. Hard to win games if you can only score 5 points in the 4th quarter. I know we missed in the 4th Q, 3 layups, and one where the ball spend around and around and went out.

Surprised in the rebounding. Mason only out rebounded us by 2 and they defiantly had us out sized at every position by several inches. Really impressed with Zavier Henry. Very smooth , athletic player. High basketball IQ. Mason is skilled at each position and very well coached. I can see them making some real noise in the post season.

Was so good to meet Rez tonight!!!!Really enjoyed talking to you.

How did Williams look at the point tonight?

How did Williams look at the point tonight?

He did well. King did pick his pocket twice, but I was also impressed with Williams. What grade is he in?

It seems that the Cardinals are still struggling with that "missing" quarter. I believe their defense is doing the job, its just that drop out that usually gets them in difficult situations.

Another solid game from Blanton.

Agree but we have improved. We were only playing good for 2 quarters, we have improved it now to 3 quarters. Hopefully by post season we can put together 4 quarters.

Blanton held Johnson to 7 points. Is that the lowest points he has scored all year?

Was very strange to watch Damion King guard Zavier Henry. Talk about David going against the giant.

D Henry is the key to Mason County. If he plays well the sky is the limit for this group.

Williams is a soph. The 3 or 4 times I've seen him, I've been favorably impressed.

He and Henry have been the surprises this year. Henry shone as a freshman a couple of years ago, then leveled off. I hear that a recent growth spurt has combined real well with the ball-handling skills he already had.

Solid back-to-back double-digit wins for the Royals at this stage of the season. Great preparation for the post-season.

What grade and how tall is he?

Junior, 6'4" or 6'5".

Thanks. I really like his game, as I stated earlier he was the best player for Mason Co tonight.

You should have seen King 5'6 guarding Henry 6'4+. Damion didn't back down either and got several rebounds. He had 6 or 7 in the first half. Love how this kid plays. He plays every possession, every minute, and get the most production for his talent of any kid I have seen play.

I think Mason has a better than 50-50 chance of winning the 10th.

If the region is at the Fieldhouse, I really like their chances. Is it being held there or at Montgomery?

Montgomery seemed like the big favorite but have been up and down lately.

[h=1]George Rogers Clark falls to Mason County[/h]

The George Rogers Clark High School boys basketball team has little room for error when it comes to scoring points.

The Cardinals (8-13) made just five field goals in the second half, allowing Mason County to pull away in a 55-44 setback Friday night at Norton Gymnasium.

Although Clark kept the game close throughout, the Cardinals shot just 19 percent from the field in the final two quarters but made all eight of their shots from the charity stripe. Clark made just one shot from long range and missed all seven of their 3-point attempts in the second half.

Cardinals coach Scott Humphrey said the difference in the game was simple.

“They hit shots, and that second half might have been our toughest half (of the season),” Humphrey said. “We took two bad shots and missed five point-blank layups.”

Mason County forward Dorian Henry led all scorers with 21 points. Henry scored 11 points in the second half and helped the Royals pull away down the stretch.

Khamarkis Blanton paced the Cards with 17 points. Blanton scored 12 points in the second half, while Damion King followed Blanton with 11 points.

The Royals pushed the margin to double digits following a 12-2 run in the third quarter for a 44-32 lead. Despite the brief spree by Mason County, Clark trimmed the margin to single digits and trailed 46-42 with 6:40 remaining.

I thought Mason Co played well. They seem like a very balanced team that has a lot of ways of putting points on the board. As was mentioned, Williams was solid, and had a couple nice midrange jumpers. They did a good job of looking for the mismatch and the hot hand. They tried to go to O'mara early, but when that wasn't working, and Henry got hot, they ran much more through him.

GRC got a solid game from Blanton and King, but not much around them. Jones never got going in this one. Foul trouble limited his minutes. The Cards stayed in striking distance most of the game, as the margin was in the 4-8 point range most of the way. They did not shoot very well. Had they shot the way they did against Montgomery Co last week, they would have had a good shot at pulling out the win.

It was nice meeting you as well Sunrise!

Thanks, forgot to mention the foul trouble of Jones. Agree on the poor shooting and it could have been a different outcome.

Doesn't get any easier for the Cards. Tonight they play LCA in a game that can be seen on TV. The CW station( sister station of Chanel 27).
