SK led by 9, 48-39 at the end of three quarters, but Oldham's press turned up the heat and turnovers wound up undoing the Pioneers. For the game, SK committed 20 turnovers to Oldham's 6.

SK has been close in so many games only to fall short.

This game was a lot of fun to watch - a tournament-level intensity from both teams. At times, the pace bordered on frantic. Certainly, it wasn't always aesthetically pleasing (to the coaches), but the effort was tremendous from both teams. Simon Kenton did a fantastic job blocking shots and won the rebounding battle....Oldham's press continually forced SK turnovers and got the Pioneers to play faster than they wanted. Both teams with a lot to be proud of, but this one goes to the Colonels.

 

This has turned into a nice little rivalry since SK joined the 8th Region in the 2005-6 season. Since then, the two teams have split 10 games down the middle, and 8 of the ten games have been decided by fewer than 10 points.

 

Advantage home team: SK is 3-0 during that stretch at home; after today's win, Oldham is 3-1 in Buckner. The "neutral site" games have gone 2-1, Oldham County (all played in New Castle in 8th Region tournaments).

I still think that the Pioneers can make a run in the 8th Region.

I could take 1-2 if the one win was in the '07 regional.

Anything is possible once you make it to the regional but I'm with you. They haven't posted three straight wins over quality teams yet.

What was the early season hype for the Pioneers all about? So far at 11-8 on the season, it would appear that they're not living up to it. Sure, their 8 losses for the most part have come from quality teams, but if SK themselves are a quality team, you'd think that they'd eke out a victory in some more of those losses than they have.

That didn't really answer the question. I think the early coaches polls had them 4th in NKY. The question is why? After losing talent like Barnes, Ayers, Sampson, Swanson, Bowling and Montgomery - why were they projected to do well? I was thrilled with the preseason ranking but I never really understood the hype either considering what they lost. I'm proud of how they played. Several of those loses were in OT or last second 1 or 2 point losses. But the question is still valid - have they underperformed or were they over hyped?

I agree with you, I believe they had a very solid JV team but it's not easy to lose two "go to" guys and return with no proven "go to" guy. They will make the region but the question is, can they win three in a row? Morrison is a stud, they need a Robin to his Batman, who will that player be?

Is this the same SK team that is supposed to win the 8th EVERY year?
