I would argue just the opposite. It appears to be set up to let certain teams AVOID these types of teams and give some formerly less successful teams a false sense of program progress.

In a way you are right. But truthfully, are there any points of reference in a sport that is reclassified every two to four years? Teams change classes, districts, etc. due to enrollment shifts. Those historical comparisons, in one opinion, are only relevant if the alignment is static. For example, there was about a 30 year period where basketball's alignment was fairly static. To me, in 2005 or so when the wholesale change was made, it sort of "resets" records and history. But I will agree on one thing without a doubt. Most people don't understand it and have to check the bracket pairings regularly to be sure who they play. From a coaching standpoint though, it is great. You truly have to focus one game at a time. The other thing this new system did as I observe, is make you play well in all district games. You don't think the regular season means anything? Look at some of the teams who had to play on the road this week and next.

Might depend on who you ask as to how silly. Seems like much of the debate at the time was that if football was going to continue to grow, it wasn't being helped by the same teams beating the same teams all the time. Expose the kids, teams and fans to other parts of the state, etc. That was what was publicized anyway. In the end, how much does it matter? You have to win four games to play at Papa Johns and you have to beat the better more traditional teams somewhere along the way. Why not get out and see some of this great state? Was interesting. Doing a little research found several states that don't have static pairings. In some areas, they re-draw after certain weeks. Talk about confusing? Anyway, looks like this week's pairings are up on their web site, at least we can see who plays who on the football page of the KHSAA web site.

Unless I miss my guess, the first round has nothing to do with the bottom line of the KHSAA so don't even enter that into the discussion. it does effect the bottom line of the KHSAA member schools who get that extra gate, however large or small it is, and it varies from what I am told, in the first round.

Your bottom line is very true. And the schools are the ones that benefit, because unlike other states, the local schools get 100% of the playoff money before the final games.

Need to get an atlas so you can verify that WKU is not on an outer border. First and foremost, the finals need to be in a city that wants them. And shows it. Secondly, it has to be on artificial turf. And it needs to be at a facility that can guarantee future dates regardless of conference affiliation. There is much more to it than just where a particular group WANTS to play. And it has to be in a sight where all games can be played at same site. That's what the coaches say they want, so they can be like Sweet 16, etc. That narrows options. UK fdoesn't give a dang. UL can't control future dates, although they would like to. COngratulations to all the participants in volleyball. You know a sport has arrived when everyone starts talking about the officiating. However, consider this. Could it be that the regular season officiating is the problem? WHen they get to state and it starts getting called very much at a a different level they aren't used to? Just wondering.

Be careful, the underlined part isn't in the book. for those that aren't officials, keep it simple. Was it the defensive player's momentum (inside the 5) that put it in the end zone? If so and it becomes dead in the end zone in his team's possession or is possession is lost out of the end zone, then the momentum rule still applies. His fumbling doesn't make any difference.

For verification since some of us are more hard to convince than others, you simply need to download the postseason instruction manual from the KHSAA football page. i suspect it is a rule primarily used for postseason play that is also supposed to be used in regular season play, but not rigidly enforced.

If you care to call the KHSAA football contact at their office, he can verify that in fact, it is a KHSAA rule.

Per previous NFHS rules interpretations, the band may NOT play when the opponent is at the line. I suspect you may see something proposed to tighten that down even further as it has become a major problem nationwide. The band should shut up when the huddle breaks.

Ohio athletes can in fact have residences anywhere. They just must at least have a GUARDIAN in Ohio. Big difference in that and a permanent resident. Too bad you weren't at the KHSAA meeting on Thursday. Or if you were, you didn't pay attention. The out of state restriction has already passed the KHSAA so it wasn't voted on again, but it was fully reported on and will be moving its way through the implemenation channels again starting in December according to KHSAA staff. Please only state fact when you know fact. Otherwise, state it as opinion.

It doesn't matter if the crew is happy. That's the problem and has been for several years. Some of those crews and those officials think it is about them. It is not. They are simply independent contractors servicing the games. if they don't like it, they should do something else. But the little power kingdoms that are built up when local crews stay together too long are all the more evident now. If the training is good, it should not matter what Referee is paired with what umpire, or what wing officials are working together, they should all be doing the same thing. The regional subgroups are not in the best interest of the high school students that are serviced. Its not about the officials, coaches, administrators or fans. None of them should be the first priority.

It's bad that both schools (the regular season winner and the playoff winner) get some recognition?
