Well it's at our place this time so hopefully we won't have to dodge any shootouts:laugh: I don't know a lot about Hazard except that they pass the ball and they have one of the Olinger family at QB and a good WR. Anybody know some specifics about them that they would like to share?

While I do agree with you that doubling hurt them bad defensively, I also think that you are "danged if you do, danged if you don't" in that situation. You can double Cole and force Somerset to beat you with some other players or you can play normal coverage against him and face the possibility of him blowing up for 200 yards receiving and multiple touchdowns.

I agree with you. I prefer the old system where you saw new teams. Some of the games were very good last night but I can guarantee you that in the old system the games in the 2nd round would have been pretty darn good as well. I personally just don't think that in football you should play the same team twice unless they earn their way back to playing again.

The crew last night was from Bardstown/Etown. They were BAD!

If the field is in bad condition it might be wise to move it. If the field isn't in bad shape I would want to play on my home field.

Pappy, I will agree with you 100% that the officiating was TERRIBLE. Although I think that it was bad both ways. Somerset had 9 penalties for 95 yards in this ballgame and the officials also missed a blatent intentional grounding on Harlan and countless other penalties. You could argue the fumbles but they didn't really change the outcome of the game. But yes, we can both agree that these officials were very bad. Kenny Hughes who got injured in the first Somerset/Harlan game, by getting a pretty big cut on his forearm, had a huge game. He had 11 carries for 135 yards and 3 receptions for 83 yards and 4 total touchdowns. Harlan doubled Cole and Somerset exploited that by hitting everyone else and running the football. Hats off to a good Harlan football team! Harlan had a great year and a lot to be proud of.

Yep. Jumper1 is correct. I printed a copy of the rule from the KHSAA website and the home site is determined by the highest seed. If the two teams have the same seed then it goes by district(odd/even years).

Let me clarify. They have never met in the playoffs since Somerset joined this region in 2003.

This is the first time these two teams have ever met in the playoffs.

Pikeville will win big. This could have been a year with the regular playoff format where District 7 won 3/4 in the first round and Pikeville maybe would have had to play some competition before the Region championship. Good luck to both teams this Friday hope everyone comes out healthy. Seniors play your butts off you never know when it could be your last... One of our boys learned that the hard way last week.

I'd love to see Clay pull this one out. They would have a tough road in the playoffs were they to win. Rock Bell Johnson Central I'd say that would be the toughest road in the mountains were they to win.

Money I'm sure was the reason that they changed the format. That being said, I think that there will be quite a few home playoff games that could go in the negatives in terms of making money. You can say that this may have happened in the past but from my knowledge it usually didn't. A new opponent will still draw a crowd whether they are underdogs or not. Playing the same team you just beat by 56 points(which is the case for many schools) would make fans not want to the game at all. The only fans you are going to have are a few mom and dad's there supporting their kids and the home schools are going to absorb the financial loss.

What would Somerset have to do with a Southwestern coach? I really don't think your post makes much sense but please clarify.

Yep, you're exactly right Somerset had tarps to cover their field and think God they did b/c the field would look even worse right now than what it does. Please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Dale Anderson earlier before the season claim partial credit for this system? I remember a quote about how he said something alongs the lines of "Julian and I have worked hard and come up with a good system." I'll look for a link. I think its quite funny now he is coming saying his own system stinks. Although I do agree with him, the system is terrible for high school football. There will be no fan support this Friday at most of the games around the state and likely to be the same for next week's playoff games.

Hmmm a little defensive? I think this thread needs to be closed. The thread was started asking people how far they think SWHS will go and it has strayed way off course since then. Good luck to SWHS in the playoffs and hopefully if you win region this year then you won't be so defensive next year when someone says something about your team:cool:
