I know that Hunter Adams and Casey Earls do alot fot the jackets of Middlesboro. Hunter is a great receiver for thier qb Trevor Hoskins and he is a nightmare for the oposing team's qb with 6 ints. Then Casey has close to 1000 rushing yards and over 500 receiving yards with a total of 19 tds. He also is an outstanding lb ave. about 12 tackles a game.

Beckham Herald from Breathitt does alot for the bobcats. He busts big runs and on defense he makes play after play. He has rushed for over a 1,000 yards and I think he has about 8 interceptions. Breathitt also has an outstanding lineman in Casey Allen. He makes the holes so Beckham can run through and he is also a huge force on defense.

Matt Dobbs does a great job on both sides of the ball as well as Phillip Dunn for the Clay County Tigers. Both are in the top of the state in receiving and play very good defense. Byron Bragg has rushed for over a thousand yards and has some receiving numbers also to go along with his special team stats. Mathew Smith also does a great job going both ways on the line.

Dustin's got my vote as one of the best all-around players in the mountains. There aren't a lot of guys as effective on both sides of the ball as May.

 

Corey Chapman deserves some props, too. Pound-for-pound the hardest hitter on the Pirate squad.

Everyone knows about Shawn Grim and what a great back he is, but I was also impressed with his play on the defensive side of the ball. He may be small in stature, but he doesn't back down from anyone.

Agreed! The same can be said about Dusty Miller. He has returned a blocked punt for a TD in each of the last two games.

I will also give a vote to Beckham Herald from Breathitt Co.. He is an excellent running back and he may be one of the hardest hitters for his size in the mountains.

The Earls kid also punts and returns punts and kickoffs, many teams don't even come close to kicking his way!

I will agree with May from Belfry. I think the kid has the ability to play football at the D-1 level in the MAC, Sun Belt, WAC, etc.

To be honest though the mountains really don't produce many players with the pure numbers (not stats, but size, speed, strength) to warrant very many D-1 offers. It is a sad fact, but if you take some of the best football players to ever come out of East KY and go to an NAIA school they typically quit before their senior season.

 

That being said, May definately has the overall size to play on the small D-1 level,, but he needs to cntinue to work on his speed and overall strength to have a chance. I would project may to best be served on the defensive side of the ball as an outside linebacker or a safety. Either way, in order to garner D-1 looks for those positions he will need to trim his 40 to the 4.5-4.65 range,, I would say he is in the 4.7-4.8 range right now. Dustin definately has the instincts needed to be successful and the kid is continuing to grow.

John Cole Somerset, leading the state in receiving--catches, yards, touchdowns plus he has 5 kick return touchdowns. Big time player, will be playing on Saturdays in division 1 and he's only a junior.

We have always been a fan of Williamsburg's Aaron Root. Has been outstanding at LB the past 2 years, his Jr. year set a school record with 164 tackles, and his Sr. year I heard over 150 thus far. Has a nose for the ball! This year he was moved to FB in Williamsburg's spread offense for blocking purposes and has shown to be a bull of a runner with deceptive moves and speed. Has several long plays (3 over 70 yards that I recall, and several more 40 plus) this year both running and receving. Made one of the most amazing 12 yard runs I've seen against Evarts, was hit in the backfield twice, broke those tackles and seemed that everybody on the D had a shot at him, yet he would not go down. The two point play against Lynn Camp was the most amazing play I have seen a High School kid make. To pick up a fumbled snap, run to one sideline and break a tackle then reverse field and throw a pass to the back corner for the conversion was unbelievable! Stan Lovett, the voice of the Jackets called it the most amazing play he had ever seen. Several NAIA, D2, and D3 schools are recruiting this fine young man!
