This is a definite and this may be a reason that more districts don't seed.Some teams don't like having to play 6 games within the district.

Agreed!I'm from another district in the state that resembles the 44th very much.We have two large schools and two small class A schools.We also have a blind draw.I am associated with one of the the small schools and even though the blind draw might benefit us most years I would much rather seed.It is sickening to hear schools proclaim that they hope to draw someone as opposed to beating someone.

Each time that Fairview-Elliott has had a game the last 4 years it has been rescheduled.This is usually due to the class A tournament.Fairview and Elliott have represented the region the past four years and they have worked around that in regards to scheduling.The game has not been cancelled.Apparently many people confuse a postponement with a cancellation.A cancellation indicates the game won't be made up and a postponement simply means it will be made up at a later day.

I am well aware of the history of Ashland basketball. And yes it does matter to me.It(Ashland Basketball history) is hammered into the head of every soul who cares to read BGP.I also feel that this year Ashland is one of three heavy(Elliott and Russell being the other two) favorites for the regional crown.I know several of the Ashland players who unlike many Tomcat fans are far from dismissive in regards to the rest of the region.This doesn't change the fact that Ashland hasn't won a regional title in four years and that their final 2 games of last year resulted in losses to class A schools-Fairview and Elliott County. As far as the subject of this thread is concerned I am going with Ashland by twelve 62-50.

Gee what region has Ashland been in the past four years?I mean surely playing against only 16th region teams in the tournament means youve won at least one regional title during that time.

You may not want to go there Zonebuster.The three leading scorers for Ashland are what are referred to in AAU circles as "grade exceptions" meaning they could be anywhere from "a little old" for their grade to being a full year behind others.Also at least a couple of key players off the bench fill that description .Let me state here that I see nothing wrong with that.It doesn't matter if it is RH,Ashland,Fairview ,Russell or any other team in the region.I would say that almost every team in the region and for that matter the state has a significant player that is a "grade exception".I just think to somehow attribute the success that RH has had this year is somehow due to "holdbacks" is unfair. On another note the victory last night for Ashland was most impressive.IMO Coleman isn't getting enough recognition.It is difficult enough to stop McDavid,Thomas and Wilcox.When you add Coleman to the mix Ashland looks very formidable.My only question is: Down deep does Ashland believe they can beat Russell?I'm not sure they do.

Totally agree.That team from Eastern Ky. beat teams they had no business even being on the floor with.Great defensive coach especially in the half-court.

Metz may play like he is 6'2"" but he is much closer to 5'10"-5'11".He is very strong and Clemmons is"plenty quick."

Shooter-I agree with the general tone of what you are saying but remember the best 8 teams will not make it to Morehead.This combined with the draw/upsets means that a team MAY not have to defeat 3 good teams.This could apply not only to Fairview but any team in the region. Remember last year very few people gave Russell much of a chance after the Red Devils scored 24 points on their homecourt in the 63rd championship game.Then they went to Morehead and defeated a Rowan Co. team that finished 14-14,a sick/depleted Fairview team and an Elliott Co. team that while been very good was still very young.Don't get me wrong I feel Russell was the best team in the region at the end of the year but the road thay faced in the region was not monumental.

Firebird are you sure about that record?I may be mistaken but I believe that when OJ Mayo was in 7th grade he was on a team(7th grade team) at Rose Hill.They went to Johnson Central and played what I believe was the JC 8th grade team.It was on a Saturday afternoon in early November.This was before the varsity season and believe it or not Mayo was undecided at that time if he would play varsity(It was said that his father feared the physical play).Other members of the RH team included Michael Taylor,Jamaal Williams,Jonathan Van Hoose,Austin Blair,Matt Thomas,Alex Barker and Austin Robinson.Rob Vanhoose was the coach. The game may have been part of a preview and therefore didn't count as a win or loss.I do remember that JC was very good. McCarty is a very good playerand I have watched the transfer before and felt he was very solid.I am sorry things haven't worked out at JC but there is still a lot of time before the end of the year.Perhaps things will work themselves out.

Correct me if I am wrong on any of the following information.Each school must schedule 40% of their HOME Girls games in prime time(Friday night or Saturday night-I've been informed that Sat. afternoon no longer counts as prime time).Also if there is a boys-girls doubleheader on those two nights and the girls play first this does not count towards the 40%.I've also been told that if the girls have a home 7:30 game on Friday or Saturday night and the boys play away on the same night this does not towards the 40%.Any clarification and/or more information would be appreciated.

Please remember that it is a blind draw with one exception(The host school gets a bye).The draw is the same for both the boys and the girls.The boys championship game will probably play out with the two top "seeds" playing each other.

Rh has to be the favorite in this one.I feel that Coach Johnson will have some sort of "junk" defense that won't allow Jackson and/or Euton to beat him.Someone else will have to step up for the Royals.
