44th district draw was today. Same thing that has happened 8 out of the last 11 years. Berea plays Model and Madison Central plays Madison Southern. One team that hasn't been able to compete with a lot of teams goes to the region.

Is this fair?

A draw is a draw, persay that they actually "draw". IMO they need to change it to a seed format like the 56th. The team with the best record (in district) plays the team with the worst, 2nd - plays 3rd. This IMO is the most accurate and realistic way, the way that all districts should be done. NO, I don't see it as fair, but if they are really drawing, then yes.

why would two small schools vote to see when they can take their chance in the draw... It worked out for them this time..

Any school that votes for a blind draw — or "dumb luck draw," as I like to think of it — deserves to, when they have their "up year," draw the traditional district power in the first round of the district.

 

I get sick of seeing crummy teams back-door their way into the region, and watering down the quality of play at the region.

You can't complain about the "draw" if your district decides to do so, that's why it's a draw.

I agree with your point. Hoping to back into a regional tournament with the only possible draw that could help a school every year is cowardly.

 

But, this one falls most prominately on the shoulders of the KHSAA. I'm not one to bash them often, but this is easy. Either mandate all districts seed, or mandate none do. Talk about cowardly, I think leaving this up to each district is one of the worst decisions the state board has ever made. It's absurd.

I don't think "cowardly" is the best adjective, Sman makes a great point, if the KHSAA doesn't mandate seeding, you really can't point fingers.

See, this is why I have not ounce of sympathy for any small school. Whichever school advances doesn't deserve a chunk of the region money, they'll contribute next to nothing to that chunk of money in their one game mercy killing at the regional. And yet, the fans of the small schools want a chance to grab some of the stash they don't deserve. Small school mentality.

With the current alignment my former high school now enjoys in one of the weakest districts in the state, that school should never vote to draw. You should know this. Even when I was in HS, and they prayed every year to draw Trimble so as to avoid Carroll and Oldham, I thought it was a chicken-poo way to get into the region.

FYI, that school votes to seed. The 31st District is always seeded. Right now there is a 3 way tie for #1 seed between Gallatin, Owen, and Henry.

Draws suck. You should seed

I dont think that teams should have the option to seed...It should be automatic becasue that rewards team for season play and every district game means more.

Just to point out for the umpteenth time. The KHSAA is made up of the HS's. The proposal to seed could come from ANY HS in the state. And yet, none has done so.

 

It is not a commissioner's call nor a board of control's call. Any of you could talk to the AD or Principal of your school to sponsor a proposal at the delegate assembly come next October.
