Nothing cowardly about it.....it only makes sense. Why would a small school vote to seed if it doesn't benefit them. Talent at small schools is cyclical, you might only get a team that can get there on their own every ten to fifteen years. But yet with the draw you might get a team there that can suprise a team or two just by getting a lucky draw. If the district voted to draw there is no reason to say things aren't fair: They are fair. You voted to draw.

This district is a joke. Why NOT send your 2 best teams to region or at least give them that opportunity? Model and Berea love it, I guess going to the region and getting pounded is a reward for being runner-up? There has has got to be a better way. I say seed, seed, seed. That's the best answer. To be the best, you have to play the best and beat the best. Hiding behind another team isn't the answer

The Class A schools here vote to seed because they have pride in their programs and want to "earn" their way into the regional tournament.

I can't beleive there are districts that still use the blind draw. Do they still have a guy with a ladder to climb up and get the ball out of the peach basket after each score too? The biggest problem I see this creating is that now one team in the region tournament basically has a first round bye. That would be a pretty good feeling for a district winning coach in the 11th to know that he has a one in three chance to draw Berea or Model in the opening round.

You would think Berea and Model would figure it out by now. When I covered the 44th, you drew for the draw and then drawed in order. I don't know if they do it that way now or not. Probably still do. A draw is a draw. ...

I agree with HDE. Would you rather play your way into the regional tournament or luck your way in.

It's a joke and it shows the small school's selfishnish and ignorance. We have the same problem here in the 49th with a couple of self serving small schools. Maybe we should raise some money and buy these guys out of playing in the post season at all, they'll probably except. It's not about their student athletes competing, it's about their back pockets. Region money can fund a small schools athletic department for a whole year, maybe two. If the district is at a tie, maybe you need to stop worrying about the draw and "earn" your way in. Southern is upset because they can't get past madison central. If they want to get to the region then they should also have to beat the best. Whats to say that southern doesn't get waxed in the region. Whats the difference? If they operate under a draw: It is fair.

I don't see how it's sickening. The money is used for the student athletes. It's used to buy equipment and all sorts of things to make athletes at smaller schools have the same oppurtunities as athletes at larger schools. Why punish kids at smaller schools for not living in a district where boosters and alumni throw countless dollars in to athletic programs. I definately see your argument but you have never been in a situation where you rely on things like going to the region to help you provide for your student body. While that money might not scratch the surface at a large school it can really be beneficial to a school in need.

They only get in because of the draw though, which is why they "lucked" their way in.

Drawing is luck. You get there by chance.

Want to explain to me why a big school automactically has more money in their athletic department than a small school?

 

If region money is funding any schools athletic department for a year, much less two, the problem lies within the athletic department. Playing the district draw lotto is a bad way of doing business.
